AM22 - Assistant Manager for FMM22 (Android) 1.0.1

8 Screenshots

This is a scouting app for FMM22 (Android), letting you:

  • See the CA, PA, hidden attributes etc for any player
  • Search for players by many parameters (CA, PA, Age, position, foot, name, club, some hidden attributes etc).
  • Export the current view of players to a FMM shortlist so you can import them into your FMM shortlist

NOTE: This will only work with FMM22, it will NOT work with FMM23 when it comes

I plan to release a new app called AM23 (for FMM23). This will be released on Google Play and will not be free

Installation

You will need to allow APKs to be installed from sources other than Google Play and you will also be prompted to allow installation from this source.

Once opened for the first time, the app will look for save files in a couple of common places. If it finds them, you will see buttons for each save file found. If it doesn't find any save files, you will need to tell the app where the save file folder is and there is a serious bug here. This is what you need to do:

  • You will be prompted with the Find Folder button. Press this.
  • You then need to find the Games folder and press the green tick / check mark in the top right corner. Note it won't show any files, only folders.
  • It SHOULD then take you back to the main screen and show you buttons for each save file BUT there is a bug and it doesn't show them.
  • You need to close the app fully (back button and say Yes) and then open it again. It should then show the save file buttons.

After that, everything should work fine. This is only a problem the first time you open the app and choose the folder. After that, the app should remember the folder and be able to show the buttons.

At this stage I'm not sure I can fix in AM22, the open file logic is pretty complicated and needs a total rewrite (which it will get for AM23 but using a solution that's not compatible with AM22).

Overview

Here's an overview of the app (from last year, but pretty much the same):

Spoiler

For those following along

This version was supposed to be going onto Google Play, but it needs to comply with their newer (more restrictive) file permission model to be accepted. I can't do that without updating to the latest version of the programming language I'm using, and I can't update without a complete rewrite of the app.

It does actually work with the latest version of Android, so I'm releasing it here for free and embarking on a total rewrite for AM23.

Support, etc

The app shouldn't cause any problems, but it is an "use at your own risk" app.

If you find any problems with the app, please post them below. That said, I may not be able to fix them as once I start the complete rewrite, I can't update this version anymore (due to a conflict with software dependencies).

There will only be an Android version in the short term. Longer term I'd like to be able to do an iOS version, or at least a web version if that's not possible, but don't hold your breath!

Have fun! :D

Though remember using this app is against the rules of the challenges here on Vibe if you're doing one of them.

What's New in Version 1.0.1

Released

Version 1.0.1 (12/9/2022):

  • Fixed save file not opening because contract section not found (file will open, but contract information not available)

Version 1.0.0

  • Initial release.

So I can not use this app because I am only playing challenges 🙃

Is this app can give big advantage in challenges??

If yes than OK to not to use it and if this gives slightest advantage than people  should allow to use it in challenges..

We should attract more FMM players to play challenges.. 🤔

If they play more challenges they might not ask about tactics roles coaches ..

Because they learn themselves while playing challenges .

Each challenge has their own rules, which are set by the person who owns the challenge. For example the 1KC rules can be found in the challenge post and the current owner is @FuddledFox

I don't think any of the current challenges say "no scouting app allowed", but that's only because there hasn't been one. I'm pretty sure that if we asked all of the challenge owners whether it's okay to use AM22, they would say no. But it's ultimately up to them - you could ask them. But I think it won't be allowed.

As for advantage, the scouting app does make it easier to find players who are better quality and who have better hidden attributes. There are signals for all of that in the game (ie ways to tell good quality players and hidden attributes), but it's harder to put together a top notch squad, because you have to read those signals rather than just do a search for players matching that.

What does this symbol ( > ) means next to some players name? Great job once again @Scratch

Means they are loaned out. Might change that at some point in future (in next years version) to make it clearer

It's an amazing app.  At first I found nothing but emptiness.  after tick  in game save folder  I deleted the game crash and rebooted.  So the app works  Thank you to the creators of the creative app.

Do you plan to release the AM23 version shortly after game release or do you have some other plans?

I will gladly pay for the app just to be ready until release.

AM23 is a little unknown right now.

First step: I need to solve the file access problems with the newer versions of Android. Right now the app can't access the save files! AM22 was taking advantage of a loophole that Google is closing. There's theoretically a way to do it (but you will have to go to the folder and give approval), but the egs are all for image files and don't work for FMM save files. So I need to solve that first.

After that I will need to rewrite a bunch of stuff. I want it to be ready not long after it's released, but ... we'll have to see. I am working on it now though (all the bits that don't need an FMM23 save file).

Yeah, I do remember something about Google closing a loophole in Android 13 onwards, though this can be solved partially by FMM's own method - moving savefiles to a folder named "sigames" in the Internal Storage.

Also, I don't know if I might get banned for saying this, but I think you might meet Jay. He worked on FMH/FMM tools before, and he was quite famous because of that before. You two could make something amazing from the kind of knowledge you guys have.

The problem is that:

  • In olden times, any app could access any file
  • Then they locked it down so that apps couldn't access files in other apps areas like Android>Apps folder, but they could still access files in Documents
  • Now they locked it down everywhere so you can only access files made by your app, even in Documents

Apparently there are exceptions: a) You can give your app superpowers, BUT Google only allows that on Google Play if your app is a file explorer; or b) you can prompt the user to give your app approval to access files in a particular folder.

It's the second one I'm hoping to sort out and I've made it far enough that the user can approve access to the folder and the app can open image files or write new files in the folder, but it doesn't seem to allow fms files to be opened. I've read there may be some other things you can do, but there's very little written on this, all the egs are for common files types like images etc.

Anyway, still working on it. If I can't find a way, then hopefully I can provide super access and make it free again, but we'll see what happens.

As for Jay, I know of him, but never met him, not sure why he retired (and not sure why you'd get banned?). I know he went further with things like DB Editors etc. I can probably already do that - as in I know enough to build that (if I can sort out file access, although the new version of the platform I use can make Windows apps too so there's that option now), but not sure I want to, as it may be stepping on SI Games toes too much (ie if they start losing sales for the IGE, they might want me to shut down). Haven't ruled it out entirely, but there is a bunch of stuff I want to do before that. Anyway, I'm using a platform that didn't even exist when he was creating his apps. I could certainly learn a lot from him about the file structure etc, but not sure we'd build stuff together.

Dang it, I knew that they restricted the access to Android/data folder, but this? This is just too extreme.

He probably did so due to personal reason. Anyways, as you mentioned above, the database editing thing could probably still work if it was a Windows app, since people would have to edit their databases and transfer them back anyways (I don't know if later Android versions even restrict the folder access to MTP, as my Android 11 phone still works). Still hope that you guys could meet up, but before that it seems like there are more things to worry about, especially the file access problems you mentioned above, which was even more serious than I expected.

I'm not an expert on this side of the matter unfortunately, so all I could do now is to wish you good luck. But if you need any help with the database, then I'll do my best, even when my knowledge is still quite limited.

Yeah. I mean I get the principle, you don't want some app accessing a file from your banking app or something, but they also affected a lot of other use cases. The principle of asking the user to approve it is okay - as long as it works for all file types. Anyway, hopefully I can sort it out.

Yeah, my real problems right now are with Android itself. It's Android 12 where this really kicks in, but Google won't allow a new app on Play unless it targets Android 12. Which is why I can release this for free this year, the work around still works, but my understanding is they are closing that in 13, so if I keep using that, then I can't put it on Play and it will stop working for new phones. Not ideal! 😄

Then after I sort that, I need to rewrite the whole app, as by upgrading to the latest version of the platform I'm using (which I had to do to have any chance of solving the file access thing), everything else I'm using stops working (doesn't work with the new version). Loads of fun...

This looks awesome but I can't seem to get it to work - the save files are showing up, but when I click them it loads for a few seconds, then the settings icon goes white (nothing happens when clicked though) and nothing else happens. None of the other menu buttons are clickable either.

Anything I'm missing to get this to work?

Most likely there is something in the save file that the app is choking on. It seems to work for the vast majority of people, but every so often someone will have something unusual in the save file that causes a problem.

If you can upload a save file here or at https://assistantmanager.app/support/ I'll take a look and see if I can work out why it's happening and whether I can fix it. Thanks.

Sure thing mate, just submitted on your website (my save file is a bit over 50mb so couldn't upload it direct, just added a Google Drive link to the message).

Fingers crossed it's something minor I can fix with the saves, really looking forward to using AM 😊 Thanks for looking into it

Hi, it looks like the contract section has disconnected somehow in that save file. Because I don't know the full save file specification, I have to guess how to find that section. The way I've done it works for most save files, but not this one for some reason. I suspect that if you start a new save it will work fine.

Anyway, I can't fix the contract section not being found, but I have squashed the error that was preventing the file loading. That means you can use the app, but things like Contract Expiry, Squad Status, Tansfer Listed Status and Salary won't display and can't be searched on.

I've uploaded a new version above (1.0.1).

I left 1.0.0 there, because it may be more solid for most users - I had to roll back my dev environment to fix this and some things were a little weird. So you have to make sure you are downloading the 1.0.1.apk one.

Hope that works for you.

Great, thanks for letting me know. Hopefully next game you play the contract data will be back, it's a pain not to have that!

Can you add editor to this scouting app just in case someone needs to edit club finances etc.

You still can't get over it? This is a scouting tool, not a save editor. And please don't bother @Scratch like that - he has other things to worry about, regarding this app itself, and possibly the 2023 version. Be considerate.

No, sorry, I'm nowhere near being able to do that. Club finances are a tricky topic. Even if I understood it, I probably wouldn't add it to this app, as that would put me in direct competition with SI Games' own In-Game Editor.

Your best solution is to use HEX following the steps @NguyenDucAnh suggested in that other thread - but it is hard to do, so unless you have experience with HEX, you are best off looking for another solution, such as buying the In-Game Editor or unlocking Sugar Daddy/Generous Benefactor as @NguyenDucAnh suggested.

In future editions, would it be possible to add import of a shortlist?

When club reputation is low, it's a massive help to sort out not interested players (I know deals can be done even though a player doesn't seem interested, but still) 🙃

Yeah, I'm hoping to add some things around shortlists in future. At the moment you can only export the current search results as a shortlist to import into FMM. I want to make it so you can add players to a list in the app before exporting it (ie combine different searches, add individual players etc). And then I want to be able to open shortlist files from FMM and let you see them in the app, so it's a two way thing.

I'm not quite sure how that's going to work out due to the increased strictness with accessing the files. Still trying to work out how to access the save game file itself!! But hopefully I get that solved.

For now though, your best bet is to search for players in the app and export it to a shortlist to open in FMM and then see which ones are interested in there. There's a max of 1000 players you can export, so you might have to use the max salary or CA filters to get rid of players who won't realistically sign for you.
