Why You Must Sign Adebayor!

qQhcbkL.png

A little while ago Emmanuel Adebayor was released from his contract at Tottenham which means he is guaranteed to be a free agent on Football Manager Mobile 2016's original database.

When you think about Adebayor you normally think about all the issues which surround him like his attitude and lack of effort however these attributes are almost ignored in game. Two players to use as great examples would be Balotelli and Ravel Morrison, in real life both these players are known to be trouble which means most clubs stay away, however both these players are popular in game as we get to use their quality while ignoring any off field issues they may have.

If you strip away Adebayor's off field issues and just take into account the pure ability and talent at his disposal you'll be looking at a player who has played for some of the biggest clubs in football including Monaco, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Arsenal. Not only has this African powerhouse played for these clubs he also has an impressive scoring rate of 176 goals in 483 appearances across his career which is nothing to sniff at, especially when you consider the scoring rates of FMM in the past. His scoring has been somewhat lower in recent years due to his lack of popularity at Tottenham but if you look at the last two seasons he has scored 16 goals in 35 games which could easily be matched or bettered in game which could be the difference between winning the title or finishing as runner up.

Stat wise i can't see where he could change much from 2015 to 2016 apart from the general signs of age which could hit his stamina and pace stats. On 2015 he's some intensive training away from being a fantastic striker but he will take a slight hit in some areas but due to his height and ability he's unlikely to lose much in an attacking sense and i'm sure 2016's intensive training could get him back to around this level at least.

One issue that will follow Adebayor in game is his reported "greed" which could make him difficult to sign for most clubs, especially for the sort of clubs that would be looking at him. Personally i think Adebayor could be a fantastic short term option for most clubs in the game ranging from newly promoted to challenging for the title as he can operate as a back up or first team striker with ease, however i would strongly recommend a short term deal as he's sure to eat into your wage budget and he hasn't got many years left in him.

In short on 2016 you'll find a fantastic player with ability, quality and no off field problems available on a free transfers who has shown he has it in his locker to deliver, regardless if you're a big side low on numbers up top or a mid table side looking for fire power Adebayor is a player you certainly should be taking a look at.

Wasn't going to bother reading when I saw the title.

But SHOCK, HORROR, it wasn't a joke. This was pretty interesting, and you may have just motivated me to try him out...

Nice work Ash, Adebayor  would be quality at a lower league table team perhaps like a Villa type of club be interesting how he would cope at a club like Villa in game wise

Cheers lads, he certainly is an interesting option. He could be a great back up for say United if you started with the no first window feature for example.

I'll be surprised if he's still a free transfer come the January update so I suggest trying him out while you can, as touched upon his wage demands could be the only limiting factor.

What the game needs is a feature where you can agree to pay him a low base wage and then certain increases when/if he hits certain hurdles. Its the way i would pay him in real life and maybe would incentivise him to actually put in an effort occasionally. He would have to be one of the more frustrating player to follow as a fan.

On a side note i never sign Morrison. Cant stomach him in real life so couldnt bear to actually care about him in a game. In fact in the past when starting a new career, Ive been known to edit it so that his PA was massively downgraded. I dont do it any longer because Im too lazy but it was my way of ensuring he was consigned to becoming irrelevant

I am intereted in more transfer options like clauses, pay to play and performances related deals but I'd worry it could over complicate the process. It could make some deals easier to pull off but on the other hand it could make some deals a lot harder, it's something I'm on the fence with to be honest.

My favourite aspect of FMM is the freedom and creativity we have with transfers so it's something I'd hate to see limited or hindered.
