Not selected for national team?

I have noticed sometimes in real life certain players manage to avoid international caps regardless of how they're performing. They're just not "fashionable" to choose.

I've noticed a similar thing in my fmm16 saves and this one in particular bothers me. 

In my Southampton (all English) save Jay Rodriguez is at 30 and still has some decent stats like that 18 shooting dribbling and movement combo .

He's been nothing short of amazing in the goal scoring department as you can see below, easily outscoring Harry Kane et al.

He also has one world player of the year award and was runner up once too. So why has he been constantly overlooked by the England managers in my save? 

I find this bizarre when one of my defenders, Peter Hartley, who was signed from Plymouth for 210k has managed to be capped, surely he's less desirable?

Can anybody tell me why this happens?

Not sure but I think a player gets called to the national set up depending on their reputation, which is a hidden attribute. Current ability may also be the reason.

But it is weird considering his above average performances
