Career Throstle Turnover - A West Brom Career

Recommended Posts

Allo guys,Kenny here and I honestly am a little nervous.

I haven't tried a story in a long time ever since ending my Coventry save very early in the game's life and I thought I'd try again with a club I haven't used very much here in FM - and that club is West Bromwich Albion.

I'll be posting my pre-season and initial squad thoughts in the next couple of hours and I'll be seeing you very soon!

@Real_Random - being realistic I'm looking at a Top 10 finish & a couple of Cup runs for the first year. Main medium-term is fending off the vultures coming in for Saido Berahino and then getting into Europe.

CHAPTER 1 - Getting Ready

Looking at the squad before the start of the preseason the first thing you realize is that West Brom are a pretty confusing squad, with 12 players 21 or under AND 6 players past 30! The main thrust then would definitely be freshening the squad up while leaving enough wiggle room to get better, and in terms of pressing additions, the squad needed an additional left-back,right-back and right winger.

The main activity in the backroom consisted of the coaching staff retained from Tony Pulis getting Gold coaching badges, with Jonathan Seah leaving and being replaced by QPR coach Perry Suckling to be a Motivational coach.

Transfers in

The transfers listed above all fill in roles I feel were needed at the club - Flavio Ferreira(picked up on a free!) provides young legs at center-back, James Baillie(signed from Crewe for 600k after Wolves stepped in,the bastards) serves as the backup right-back, 15-year old Vashon Neufvile from West Ham serves as the backup left-back, Jake Kirby from Tranmere for a peppercorn fee slots in at the wing, and the surprise signing of Rico Henry from Walsall and Boca's Andres Cubas reloads the wings and center of midfield.

Transfers out:

Three youngsters going out on loan to get gametime make up the first wave of transfers, with Cardiff coming in with 4 million quid for Craig Gardner, opening up the finance to sign Rico Henry, while Anichebe was a pre-expiry cash-in and Sebastien Pocognoli was offloaded after the arrival of Rico Henry, which provided the funds to sign Andres Cubas.

Pre-season results:

3-0 win against Barnet and 2-1 win against Huddersfield Town

Upcoming schedule:

Norwich @ the Hawthorns - Opening Day

Palace @ Selhurst Park

Arsenal @ Emirates

Leeds @ the Hawthorns - League Cup R2

Man Utd @ the Hawthorns

Anyone struggling for cash and looking for a cheap but deadly striker should consider Lavezzi. £1.9m and look at that return.  I am on in November of the first season.  I play him in front and between two wide IF's.

Sounds good mate! Is jake kirby any good? I have never heard of him before

He's pretty solid from experience - on lower league saves he usually muscles out the incumbent left winger after 4 months of IT!

Lavezzi's still quality lol no idea why PSG sold him on to China unless Lavezzi wanted more money tbh

Season 1 halfway report

The first half of the season sees West Brom in 5th, taking advantage of indifferent starts to the season from Manchester United and Spurs to rocket up the table despite an autumn swoon.

A bright first month of the year, capped by taking a 2-0 win against Manchester United fell away after a swoon from September to November, while a bright December run sparks hope of a turnaround in the new year. Big wins over Everton and Chelsea in the League Cup take us to a Cup semifinal in year one.

Salomon Rondon has certainly hit the ground running in English football after his move from Zenit, scoring 15 goals in all competitions in 13 games. Saido Berahino has supported ably with 10 in 13 while Callum McManaman has been a revelation with 4 goals and 8 assists.

Catch us next time for the conclusion of Season 1!

January transfer review

Outs

http://%7Boption%7Dhttp://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/z373/jmrabelas/Mobile Uploads/Screenshot_20160620-100527_zpsw6yafuwr.png~original

The only major outs during January were James Morrison, who leaves after failing to agree terms on a new contract and Rickie Lambert who was sold after being a disrespectful mincehead and being a negative influence on the squad. Stephane Sessegnon was sold late in the first window and majority of the youth players that couldn't hack it were sold during the first month of the season, with Tahvon Campbell being the only youngster to leave in January.

Ins

Tom Bradshaw was signed on September deadline day to provide a young pacy partner for Rickie Lambert, while majority of the other signings were made in January after chairman Jeremy Peace UNLOCKED THE SAFE to the tune of 150M .Eder Balanta and Bartlomiej Dragowski join next season while the other players joined us in January.

Bosmans/End-of-year deals

The splurge continued into these deals, with Patrick Bamford, Emerson Hyndman, Piotr Zelinski, Tyrone Mings and Domenico Berardi costing a combined 90M between the lot of them - however it feels like money well spent. Patterson, Pennington and Souttar are investments in youth while Forrest, Harnik and Kabasele join on Bosmans for depth.

What formation and tactics and player roles are you using because I've just started a game with WBA and need help with them

Hey man =)

Been using an attacking 4-4-2 with Rondon and Berahino set as a Poacher and Trequartista respectively. Callum McManaman @ AMR-IF tends to make it a pseudo 4-3-3 at times.

Great first season mate. Well Done!

Thanks mate! I failed to snap the C1C semifinal but I actually only scraped through it on penalties having tied 2-2 on aggregate with Burnley, and I honestly only got to 6th because Spurs and Man United had HORRENDOUS starts(United were in the drop zone after the first 2 1/2 months of the season, and Spurs were in the drop zone @ Boxing Day!).
