Chat Promoting Youth (star ratings)

Hi guys. I would just like to know how everybody else goes about deciding how to choose which youth prospects to offer contracts to.

Personally I go by star rating and sign anybody with potential of 3 stars or more. However early on I took a risk on a player with 2.5 star potential. This is that player now.

Personally I love this. potential stars could fall through the cracks.

I find it's luck. Had a 2 star also, sold him and ended up buying back (for a significant loss) and he's now 5 star two leagues higher than befoee. I have my suspicions that the quality of coach's also make a difference.

I believe that to be the case too. The judgement of coaches is likely going to be closer to the truth the higher their aptitude. It's somewhat true to life that young stars can flop or youngsters who are viewed as "not good enough" can become stars.

For young players with average stars, I typically trust the actual attributes over coach's star ratings.  Especially in lower leagues when coaches aren't very good.  I feel that a young player with two 15s in relevant attributes is more likely to become useful than someone with with 2.5-3 stars.

But when promoting your own youth can you see the attributes first?

Am I the only one that accepts all, then sell them on for profit? It's not like they give us 10 or so prospects to choose from (which is what I would assume happens at real life clubs, that's why they release them), my club has more than enough space to accommodate them all until I gain my sweet sweet profit when selling them on.

If it's a youth team promotion, the amount of prospects in my pipeline is a key factor in whether or not I accept everyone.  Sometimes, the hassle isn't worth it when the profit is minimal.

From my experience, even pretty poor players can be sold for 5m. Some even for 12m. The key is to see which clubs just got a key player sold, then I offer and hope to siphon as much of that money they've just earned.
