Career Thomas Buitink and the road to 1K (COMPLETE)

Taff

Hello my fellow Vibers and welcome to yet another career from everyones favourite Welshman (I'm talking about me before everyone starts thinking about other famous Welshmen they like)

And after seeing the likes of @kts365 and @scratch99 complete 1K attempts this year and with @Varf in the middle of his, I thought why not have a go myself, I completed one last year with Gabriel Barbosa at Arsenal, and this year there are a number of great 16/17 year old players who could provide me with plenty of time to get to the magic 1000 goals

So as the title suggest I have chosen to use the young Dutch Striker Thomas Buitink who I used during my Alphabet challenge when he was in his prime and he became a beast of a striker, so I'm hoping picking him up at the tender age of 16 I can use IT to get him back up to the heights he was reaching in my other challenge

Now as important as the player is the club and league are equally important, having completed a 1K in the EPL last year and a DT and TT (of sorts) in the EPL this year I fancied somewhere different, and the normal go to leagues for these challenges seems to be Portugal or.....

Holland

I know that @Varf is currently using Ajax with his Moise Kean 1K, so I went with the other Dutch team PSV for two reasons

1. They have a good squad of youngsters who are ready to compete in both Holland and Europe

2. They have this beast of a player who could partner/mentor Buitink

596b59fdd3991_download(1).jpg.96673e258ff4aa9040429491619de234.jpg

As some (especially @BatiGoal will attest this guy is an immense striker, who I think would partner Buitink very well upfront to provide some class when the team needs it

Here is how my young gun looks after I picked him up from Vitesse

IMG_4099.thumb.PNG.e50f4366eced926e443cee2f2ce154c4.PNG

No greens but I'm sure that will change and his shooting is 14 so just shy of the green mark.

So with me appointed at PSV and Buitink now part of the team, I also went and restructured the team a bit where I though they needed it

Transfers

We brought in a grand total of 10 new players to boost/backup certain areas of the team, Risse came in and instantly got a starters spot on the RW same with Santos on the LW, Donati became my new starting RB, Vandendriessche ,McShane and Diarra came in to sure up my midfield, then Mendez (LB/LW), Seoane (RB/RW) and Ferreira(CB) come in as backups all on free transfers

IMG_4132.thumb.PNG.9b610fe7f5d6535ec1980317564c9b7a.PNG

When Bayern came in with a £21M offer for Propper I bit their hand off without even blinking, Guaradado and Koch also left after bids arrived hence the £32M spent on new players

So my transfer dealings done it was time to move on and begin our journey to 1000 goals

Season 1

Spoiler

Domestic Competitions

We began the season with the Dutch Supercup game against Feyenoord

IMG_4104.thumb.PNG.9c60abd7c62d2dce3c0de8158b5d83d9.PNGIMG_4103.thumb.PNG.c349ab76ad4896913e4ea18310d1d7d4.PNG

And a brace from Ramselaar clinches the Super Cup

The league was touch and go but in the end..

IMG_4115.thumb.PNG.32027bb34622a0e61d31376a8887905c.PNGIMG_4122.thumb.PNG.ba10b3bd449dda1f7ae1728760cffa8a.PNG

We prevail with a good record  with only the 2 losses but too many draws again for my liking, and a healthy 14 point gap over the dogs at Ajax

IMG_4117.thumb.PNG.61298bdc39baf363198a341a66b9a6e7.PNGIMG_4116.thumb.PNG.2d620cf7a6a0356ae9fdc1caff83191c.PNG

And a very late goal from De Jong clinches the Dutch cup to round off a very good domestic treble

European Competitions

We also had some fun in Europe this year.

We are drawn in the UCL group stage alongside the Giants Bayern and Arsenal and fellow Euro Minnows Club Brugge, so I was hoping for a 3rd place finish and try our luck in the Euro Cup, and low and behold....

IMG_4107.thumb.PNG.7cd120015901d71263109b1f1c5db1b0.PNG

Thats exactly what happened

We beat Brugge in both games, lost twice to Arsenal and managed a loss and draw against Bayern, but thats fine and we progress to the Euro Cup knock out round

Our first opponents are Spurs

Spoiler

IMG_4108.thumb.PNG.a3b60a2816475844f1dd9b6bb0d32fae.PNGIMG_4109.thumb.PNG.d485962f016380d982ed2106ff920dc8.PNG

So a cracking first game with a Hat Trick from Buitink secures an unexpected 3-2 win, then a single goal from CM McShane is enough and PSV move on to the Second Knockout round

Our Next opponents Villereal

Spoiler

IMG_4110.thumb.PNG.0a415a213a009fe21ade589f20f0ddf2.PNGIMG_4111.thumb.PNG.d29bcf6d77d73b0f9c81b99e4b94b839.PNG

A hard fought 0-0 draw at home, but we let loose in the away leg and thanks to a brace from De Jong we walk away 3-1 winners and move on to the Quarter Finals

Next up we we host another Spanish Club in A. Bilbao

Spoiler

IMG_4112.thumb.PNG.de47ecc075a8998d93ed174ae82d374c.PNGIMG_4113.thumb.PNG.b56a3e136b9ae41106e48ccd425576ae.PNG

Both Games end 0-0 with disallowed goals in both, but we hold our nerve and win the penalty shootout to move on to the semi finals

Next up we head to France to face Olympique Lyonnais

Spoiler

IMG_4118.thumb.PNG.9b892e424cd86a472893e7423712a18e.PNGIMG_4119.thumb.PNG.940c1c45186c9517e164923ec306f798.PNG

A smashing couple of games winning 4-1 over two legs and PSV have reached the Euro Cup Finals

Our opponents Portugals FCP

IMG_4125.thumb.PNG.11164a6a19a47e9f8fbe8ac8b433ca1b.PNGIMG_4124.thumb.PNG.be5b88f2dd4f2b2e446ded08705ed1c5.PNG

Once again De Jong saves our bacon in the 92nd minute and that single goal (can't believe we only scored 1 when you look at the stats) was enough and PSV lift the Euro Cup

So a very VERY good season for the boys at PSV, a domestic treble and the Euro Cup, couldn't have asked for more in my first season in charge

But the main question is how did my little 16 year old wonder kid get on

He spent most of the season as a member of a duel striker attack with De Jong (set De Jong as a TM and Buitink as a P hoping De Jong will lay off some passes)

and he missed a little time with injury

IMG_4106.thumb.PNG.ed360ea1b4e6b0c673ea0bb16babd702.PNG

Only 3 weeks but thats like a month or so by the time he's match fit again, and taking a note from BG, I rested him every 5 games or so, here's his stats

IMG_4126.thumb.PNG.5505b1f9a1eb3fdf37a974ffeeff0784.PNG

Some improvement but still only 16 (turns 17 at the beginning of June), so still plenty of time to get him up there, and here is his history for season 1

IMG_4127.thumb.PNG.a253dc74e51a2de6a5c5074d2f3c79bb.PNG

35 games 31 scored, about what I was hoping for in his first season

Thomas Buitink

Games Played: 35

Goals Scored: 31

Goals Remaining: 969

So a long road ahead but he is still very young, and is sharing the front line with another striker, I will eventually have him as a lone striker, but not till he hits 19 I think

Here's the rest of the info for anyone who likes to read it

A treble to start things off with? How are you going to top that?? :)

30+ gls for a 16yo is beautiful. Great start, great team and country, can't wait for more.

Cheers dude, thought you might like a full on Dutch 1K (hope to land the Holland job at some point, but not too worried about it)

Thats a great start for such a young striker, it can only get better!

I hope so, but was happy and 30 is good if he can increase at a rate of 8-10 goals a year until he hits 19 then we should be fine, then I can use him as a sole striker and really get cracking

Great job @Taff I did consider PSV for myself too but ended up with Ajax. 31 is great even though I was disappointed about it in my comments to my career. It just because I had that pure lucky first season with 51 goal and then it took me 3 years to match it.

I will try to rest Kean every 5 or so now too. If it applies to "older" striker.

So does international goals count only if you manage country? If so I do regreat turning down Italy job in second season :(

And btw reading yours and a few others threads is a joy, I'm no writer. I can only keep it simple and down to the point

Cheers Brenty and I'm hoping he developes as he has in other saves, he's hit a few more greens this season so lets hope he continues to develop, and I thought having a mentor or someone along side him would help him early in his career so lets hope De Jong doesn't outshine him too much

He's not going anywhere, he's only on a £900 P/W contract at the moment so i have plenty of room to improve his contract, but I'll keep him even if he wants to move

Cheers dude, just fancied having another crack at it, just hope this one goes as well as the Barbosa one did and not my Akpom attempt from last year

Good start.  How did you alter your formation to give Buitink his opportunities in front of the goal?

Cheers dude, I used a 442 for most of the season using De Jong as either a TM or DLF, he still bangs them in but sometimes I'd switch to a 4411 to use Buitink as a sole striker if he's not getting the goals along side De Jong

Ajax I think have a better young team, but with De Jong i had to use PSV, and yes if you manage the players National team then INT goals count towards the 1K total, so getting the Italy job would have helped, but keep an eye on it and grab it if it comes up again

And cheers for the comparison stats looks like he develops along the same lines as Kean so that lifts my spirits

World Champions in season 3, no pressure there although we did record a cracking 4-1 win against Bayern but then lost 3-1 to Man City so swings and roundabouts

Great to see you having a go at this one! And Buitink looks pretty damn good for a 16 year old. And almost a goal a game? That's awesome! If he's doing that at 16 he's going to go a long way. 1.5K for sure! ?

Thomas Buitink and the Road to 1K

Season 2

So after a decent first season for our 16 year old striker, could he progress a little and begin to bang the goals in, well let's have a look

First we hit the transfer market and with some unused players leaving and some remaining funds from last year, we were able to bring in plenty of new talent to the squad

Spoiler

IMG_4165.thumb.PNG.e8dba881aff570e2f7aa564b725ae8cb.PNG

Theo Hernandez was the main purchase this year as a class young option who can play either LB or LW, then Mitrovic came as a new starting CB, Christiansen and Seck came in as Midfield options, Zaha as a backup RW and Jean-David as a backup TM/DLF, then a few graduates who got 0 games time

IMG_4166.thumb.PNG.0cb908aa338a19304f99b900f411447c.PNG

Going out were players who got next to no game time last season so I decided to cash in, getting almost £11M for Bergwijn was a great bonus

So the squad in place we set off to once again conquer the world

Spoiler

Domestic

We began the season once again with the Dutch Supercup, this time we faced Ajaz for the trophy

IMG_4145.thumb.PNG.3779d46bab6377c9100ae89d11c7944c.PNGIMG_4144.thumb.PNG.38bb7c637dac25847b5658f466b447d0.PNG

And even though they dominated the stats, we walk away thanks to a single goal from Buitink, and we win our second Dutch Supercup

IMG_4152.thumb.PNG.8ff14d51d6f5ee8de19b86620433dc5a.PNGIMG_4153.thumb.PNG.99d984bf3f400f2c20852dedaf31a001.PNG

We cruised through the league winning with 6 games to go

IMG_4160.thumb.PNG.c0dcc0c6c9c097db01acd44fe18ad904.PNG

The final table looked like this with us winning by 28 points and only losing 2 games all season

IMG_4158.thumb.PNG.97a98be2a4544673d68f3982b6acf707.PNGIMG_4157.thumb.PNG.e93122990d64f803e863c9b0fbd0f881.PNG

We also clinched the Dutch Cup thanks to a fantastic 4-0 win over Ajax, who have been one step behind us all year long

Europe

Thanks to our miraculous Euro Cup win last season we began our European Journey with a game against Barcelona for the Euro Supercup

IMG_4146.thumb.PNG.373426eea68733bcd2c66f6a2ef04d7a.PNG

Unfortunately they were much too strong for us and we crashed out 0-2 losers

We then moved on to the UCL group stage where this year we were drawn against Bayern,Man City and AEK, so again hoping for a 3rd place finish and another year in the Euro Cup, but thanks to games like this

IMG_4150.thumb.PNG.bcd54bcb3da74c7bda0bcbccfdf31bd2.PNG

We progressed better than anyone expected

IMG_4151.thumb.PNG.ec33ee883090f8321562042ef549bb5b.PNG

Topping the group with two wins over both Bayern and AEK and a win/loss against City

We then moved on to the Knockout rounds, where our first opponents were the other German Giants Dortmund

IMG_4154.thumb.PNG.d6fff963cc1be1ae38c12479e15c16ae.PNG

The first leg went their way in a 0-1 win, then we managed to take them to ET thanks to a goal from de Jong, then we outscored them 2-1 in ET to progress to the UCL Quarter Finals

We then are drawn against Arsenal

IMG_4155.thumb.PNG.f7eea55ee16f3d9414980405208ec774.PNG

A fantastic 3-2 win at home put us on the front foot, then we manage to hold them to a 1-1 draw at home with the winning goal coming from my excellent young AP Ramselaar, and PSV move on to face the Spanish Giants of Real Madrid

IMG_4159.thumb.PNG.f1edfb764f77e75eab4fcf64cf9f714e.PNG

Sadly a 1-2 loss in Spain meant we had to fight hard at home, but we couldn't get past them, gaining a 1-1 draw, but we go home before the final

So a great season a second Domestic Winning Season, and progressing to the UCL Semi Finals

So how did Buitink do, well for most of the season again he was part of a 2/3 man strike force and was gaining a little bit of ground on the road to 1K, then in the last third of the season I switched to my 4411 and used him as a sole striker and he did slightly better, here's how his stats now look

IMG_4161.thumb.PNG.f8c7838a5de9debf14bbc92e078700de.PNG

His Dribbling and Positioning improve and are now in the green, his Technique has fluctuated along with his speed, but I'm sure they will improve with time after all he is still only 17

As for his goal tally

IMG_4162.thumb.PNG.853bbb6fff88ee22d6de0ffd04dc3dfa.PNG

A frankly disappointing 35 from 51, but he did do better on his own, so maybe I'll move him as a solo striker sooner than I expected, I always have de Jong to come in and save the day if need be

Thomas Buitink

Games: 86

Goals: 66

Goals Remaining: 934

So still looks like a very long road without him breaking the 100 mark yet, but it's way too early to panic

Here's the rest of the season info

Good numbers, nothing to worry about. Just take whatever number he bangs in in his teen years and start the calculations when he's 20yo. The squad is looking pretty good now too which will get him more goals in S3. Let me throw a number out there. 49 :)

Another decent year Taff, he is really starting to look like a class talent. Make sure to keep an eye on that Holland job, would be a disaster if you missed out on that. 66 goals already isn't bad, let's hope he hits 40 next year to give you some time to catch KTS at the top.

Understand that it's a little disappointing that his goals per game ratio dropped a little this year, but as others have said (and you already know), 35 from 51 is still a pretty good return for someone so young. He'll come good in a few years, just keep it up. And yeah, I'd play him up front by himself and bring de Jong off the bench to win games if need be...

Just keep doing what you are doing! Look at my first few seasons... I was very frustrated with Kean numbers. But as Kean Buitink will become more consistent.

PS need to figure out how to make my guy score 70+... ;)
