At the end of the day it's you who's responsible for ruining Coman's career. If you can't handle the disruptive nature of an enfant terrible then perhaps you should pass on the managerial seat to the next :P

Kidding mate, let him and his ego rot in the reserves, you're riding along nicely (y)

Haha thanks mate, but you have to deal with these prima donnas ruthlessly. No one is bigger than the team! Well except me and Fucundo... The rest all have to get in line and bow down and scrape etc... Cross me and you're toast, no matter how much you cost.

Not sure why my rating for discipline is only 9... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Update - Season 10

We're approaching halfway, so only another 5 or 6 weeks to go. If I'm lucky, I'll be playing FMM 2018 by Christmas. Come on Facundo, get a move on!

Transfers, etc

Spoiler

If you remember the last update, a lot of space was given to our troubles with Kingsley (Big Shot) Coman. As soon as an offer materialised, from Chelsea, we bit their hand off. Sure, we made a loss of £151.5M on him (including the original player exchange), but I've got more money than I can spend at this point...

We also sold our reserve striker Florenzi and attacking midfielder Lemar. Neither were getting game time.

The saddest transfer was Callum Paterson. I didn't intend for him to leave, but I hesitated on signing him to a new contract due to his age, and Sunderland jumped in and got him on a Bosman. He was 31 and starting to visibly age, but he still had a great season and has been a great servant of the club. We'll miss you mate!

In the Transfers In column, we had Pulisic joining on a free and a bunch of exciting young players for the future, all of which were loaned straight out.

Featured Player

This time around, I want to highlight an impressive achievement by one of our promising youngsters who we've loaned out:

colidio-season10-100.png.e279c5f6a8b44fde64f92d8a56d37576.png

Yes, Sanchez is playing well, but has also managed to get 4 red cards in the first 30 games... He gets sent off more than 10% of the time!! He's going to be the BOSS.

Double Trouble

No, not the DT challenge - real double trouble, but luckily not for us:

colidio-season10-21.png.f8e56ee6090f9c04e6342f487c714443.png

Falkirk have implemented a buddy system, where young players will have an experienced player with them at ALL times.

Competitions

Normal service returned this year, with us taking out all the domestic competitions. We went 37-1-0 in the League, with 118 goals for and only 5 against. We wrapped the title up on 8th Feb and I'm still hopeful of one day doing it in January, if the stars align.

Elsewhere, we won the European Super Cup and The Club World Championship, but lost the Champions League Final. Real Madrid got off to a great start and were winning 3-0 by half time. We clawed a goal back, before having a player sent off, then piled the pressure on towards the end. We managed to get it back to 3-2, but too little, too late...

Development & Awards

This is what Colidio looks like now:

colidio-season10-43.png.424e17ca9f77d049469ccaadc7e9d0a8.png

He was World Player of the Year again:

colidio-season10-14.png.f5f1cba30c8eab74776b91d5bd860038.png

Injuries

Colidio got a ghost injury while on ITN duty (again, those ITN games are dangerous!):

colidio-season10-23.png.70e74d957d4532e5e1cf49de941b2669.png

colidio-season10-24.png.9fc6e3f244f9f16f81582627e8016a3f.png

Even though it wasn't a proper injury, it did knock him down to 42% and he ended up missing 3 games - but that was the only injury this year, so I have to be happy with that!

Goals

No quadruples this year. Slow and steady, lots of braces, nothing flashy.

At the club level, he scored 77 goals in 50 appearances:

colidio-season10-44.png.8fe6d815c823d76de761b0566e8b6a33.png

Nice ratio, doing well, pretty happy with his form at club level. He misses about half of his penalties though, which is a bit of a worry!

ITN Goals

Colidio started the season with 38 ITN goals:

colidio-season09-39a.png.70d02d91ddf32d47ccfcf92a4f06dbec.png

By the end of the season, he'd scored another 10 goals (in 17 games) at ITN level.

colidio-season10-86.png.f1710e446bc09834feafb1e8cf959aa7.png

We won the Confederations Cup quite easily. We lost the World Cup Final to Italy. We dominated every game, including the Final, but had trouble scoring - mainly because Colidio ran out of puff after a long season (67 games) and just could not score. He got only 2 goals in 7 games at the WorldCup. ?

Progress

26 years old (EOY) Season Total
Club Goals 77 532
ITN Goals (-9) 10 39
Totals 87 571

The Future

With ITN tournaments before and after the season, Colidio just played too many games (67) this year. He limped across the line with almost nothing left in the tank. He just couldn't hit the net no matter how many shots he had.

With only a 2 week break heading into the new season, I need to monitor this closely and make sure I get him enough down time to find his spark again.

Yeah, not a bad player all things considered. ;)

87 goals (club & ITN) this year. Hoping he'll get close to 100 before too long, but we'll have to see about that.

It's working! Though maybe it won't be quite enough... I might need to put up some fake comments from @BatiGoal on the wall to fire him up more!

It's interesting to compare Colidio to Armstrong, bearing in mind:

  • I really didn't have any idea of what I was doing in the early Armstrong seasons, so Colidio is off to a much better start.
  • Colidio is 3 years younger than Armstrong - by the age of 26, Armstrong was only on Season 7, whereas Colidio has had 10 seasons.
  • The England call up was still 5 years away for Armstrong at the equivalent point. Colidio already has 39 ITN goals that count.
  • Also, there's no way to know for sure, but all the indicators are that Colidio is better quality than Armstrong (and his attributes are better).

So... At this point, Colidio has 571 goals. Armstrong only had 350.

If you did want to compare season 10 to season 10, then Armstrong had 560, which is much closer obviously, but Colidio got off to a slow start because I couldn't make him score as a 16 year old and Armstrong is going to slow down significantly sooner...

At this point, I'll be disappointed if I don't get to 1200 goals (Armstrong got to 1064).

Update - Season 11

It all started with Dutch journalist @BatiGoal predicting that Colidio would score 97 goals this year. That set the tone for the whole season. I printed that out, stuck it on the dressing room wall and challenged Colidio to beat it.

I've never seen a player so fired up! Colidio took it personally - he was insulted that this journalist obviously thought he couldn't make it to 100 and was desperate to prove him wrong. At the very least he needed to score 98 goals to show BatiGoal that he'd underestimated him.

So, did Colidio beat the 97 goal mark? Did he make it to 100? You'll have to read below to find out, but I will tell you it went right down to the wire...

Transfers, etc

Spoiler

colidio-season11-28.png.1c906aad1f39bcb6a570004f6d76dd07.png

Nothing much to see here. We sold a bunch of very good players who were on the fringe of the first team, and replaced them with some young hopefuls who might eventually be able to go a step further.

The one notable transaction was Eric Dier, our first choice right back, leaving us when his contract expired at the end of the season*.

Spoiler

Dier had been a great player for the club averaging in the high 7s, but he was 33 and his attributes were starting to slip. He wanted to bump his contract up to £350K p/w and was demanding at least 2 years. We could afford it, but I suspected we'd be better off finding a new right back instead.

We had a candidate join the club at the beginning of the season, but he got an 8 month injury only a few games in, so we hadn't really taken his measure. Would he be good enough to become the starter, with an aging Dier as his backup? Risky.

I decided to buy over the offseason instead and let Dier's contract run down. Unlike Callum Paterson, he didn't agree a contract with another team. And he continued to perform well.

But here's the thing... He stayed right until the end of his contract and then left the club. Fair enough! But...

His contract ran out on the day of the Champions League Final. He left the club in the morning, just hours before the biggest game of the year. He gave up a starting spot (and left us with no fit defenders on the bench). Nice one Eric. You have 20 for Decisions, but frankly I'm just not seeing how...

Fun Fact

I now have a large portion of the Argentinian team with me at Celtic.

colidio-season11-05.png.91477d521162fdef9a79e88b19244bfd.png

Not all of them are first teamers at Celtic, but they are generally first choice for Argentina. It sure does help improve the mood of the squad when I can compliment them before a big ITN game.

Going Down

The board finally realised that they are best off just trusting me and getting out of the way, so they offered me a place on the board. I'm unsackable!

colidio-season11-09.png.5b83fd11f476efdb75a8b8225298e24e.png

Right, now I can take Celtic down to the 4th level of Scottish Football, using the £2B I have in the bank to make sure none of our superstars leave, and win every game 25-0... There's still time to get Colidio to 3K.

Nah just kidding. Throwing games is illegal, so I won't do it here. But I drooled a bit thinking about it...

Competitions

Once again we won all the domestic competitions. The Scottish Cup Final was a doozie! A 9-0 win over Queen of the South, with hat-tricks to Colidio and Anicio Caetano de Araujo and another buddy system double red card for the opposition. In the league, we went 33-5-0 with 113 goals for and 8 against. We're slipping.

Elsewhere: No European Super Cup or Club World Championship this year, but we made sure we'll have them next year by winning the Champions League Final. We beat Valencia 2-1 (Gomez who we sold to them for £30M in July scored for them).

Development & Awards

This is what Colidio looks like now. Physicals dropped a point near the end of the year, not sure why, but they will probably be back.

colidio-season11-29.png.d3c603390031afe3dcb052292725a3b7.png

He was World Player of the Year again (it's getting tiresome I know):

colidio-season11-07.png.5596a10277a52cd2fb704bc1eb7f9a09.png

Injuries

No injuries this year. Well, that's not entirely true, but more on that later...

Goals

Only one quadruple this year (could have scored 6 though):

colidio-season11-10.png.b2b3b9390cf41978f30db00a75a6c7d8.png

At the club level, he scored 78 goals in 49 appearances:

colidio-season11-30.png.832d98579dd88ac3a64a8498a75b4b93.png

That's both his best total and his best ratio, so a great a season!

Still... That's well short of the 97 target set by BatiGoal, isn't it? Luckily, we have yet to count the international goals, so lets head over there now...

Countdown To Glory

Colidio was closing in on the target during the latter stages of the Copa America.

I had planned to rest him after the group stage, so that he got a full 6 weeks off this year. But he brought out his printout of BatiGoal's comment and told me he was going to play or he'd be off in the summer. I would have sacked anyone else on the spot, but not Facundo. I played him.

He went into the Quarter Final needing 5 goals to reach 98 goals and beat BatiGoal's target. 5 goals in 3 potential games? Maybe...

colidio-season11-32.png.8235a6f55f39e3c853e516f5fa2abc3f.png

He scored! But only one. Okay, 4 goals needed in 2 games. Going to be tough...

colidio-season11-33.png.353b56b62a326b46e65c1d61bb5ef012.png

A brace! Okay, one more game. If he scores a brace, he can put that BatiGoal back in his place! What happened? I'm too scared to look!!!

Spoiler

colidio-season11-34.png.2d0260ab32ed697ed2f71ee15202c9eb.png

You gotta be kidding me!! Taken out by an injury on the morning of the final... So, in total he scored 96 goals in the season. Only 1 short of the BatiGoal's prediction...

A great season, but Colidio heads into the off season with the imagined mocking laughter of BatiGoal ringing in his ears.

ITN Goals

Colidio started the season with 48 ITN goals:

colidio-season10-86.png.49c8a994273aaf0b129239f81ffa5921.png

By the end of the season, he'd scored another 18 goals (in 12 games) at ITN level.

colidio-season11-36.png.53cb944bdec5e01c21ed409cb34cae09.png

We won the Copa America Final 2-0 over Chile, with Pavon just putting the ball into the net himself, given he had no Colidio to pass to.

Spoiler

colidio-season11-35.png.9e5d0d309c8c2a1c5691a1ae83839227.png

Progress

27 years old (EOY) Season Total
Club Goals 78 610
ITN Goals (-9) 18 57
Totals 96 667

The Future

Colidio is in his prime right now and he's scoring well. If he can keep this up for the next few years, he'll smash through the 1K mark when he's around 31, which will give him a decent platform to push on towards 1.2K or 1.3K. Looking good, as long as serious injury doesn't strike...

Thanks mate, yeah I guess it's not *too* bad! :D

I just couldn't believe the timing of the injury. He gets through the whole season without getting injured and then gets one on the morning of the final match! What are they training for on match day anyway? What are you doing to me FMM?

Of course he missed about 10 penalties over the course of the year, so if he was a little better at those he would have killed it.

Colidio Not The Real Deal

By Batigoal - Argentinian starlet "Facundo Colidio is not the real deal - he waggles like a seal cause he's not the real deal - not the real deal". That's the same repetitive chant we've been hearing in the stadiums worldwide from the opposing crowds throughout the games. Some of them believed to be home fans too. That's the opinion of hundreds of thousands of football fans around the world but one his club manager Scratch99 fails to share. "ha! those bloody idiots have no clue whom they're looking at. When was the bloody last time we saw a man score 78 league goals? 96 in the entire bloody season? Exactly mate, not yesterday was it.. let them idiots sing their Xmas balls off I'm telling you right here right now.. Colidio is no Armstrong...yet.. but this man is becoming a legend whether those singing divas like it or not. Calling themselves football fans pfff not even worthy of laying eyes on a class player like Facu. And I tell you what.. he's going to beat his best and nick 100 next season, mark my words and smoke 'em! " Celtic manager Scratch99 echoed in no uncertain terms of what his and his Argentinian talisman Facundo Colidio are planning to deliver to the tv's and stadiums around the globe during the coming 2027/28 season. And if not, he may very well pay with his job.

Hoping he'll break 100, but not sure if I'll get to 120. Never done that before (apart from when I was with a champion's league team in the Conference LOL).

Thanks mate, he's doing alright. :D

To be honest, the injuries are probably on the good side. He had 3 full seasons injury free in a row early on, which is unheard of (for me), and I think the longest injury so far was only 3 to 4 weeks. From memory, Armstrong probably had more injuries and they were longer. The one thing against him injury-wise was the constant knocks he'd pick up in games, but that seems to have cleared up in the last year or two.

Our fans already have a special song for BatiGoal, but I can't repeat it here, what with you being a moderator and all. Don't want to get myself banned! ;)

Update - Season 12

Colidio is steadily cruising towards 1K and there seems no doubt he'll get there eventually.

We let a couple of fringe players go and loaned out some youngsters, while at the same time finally splashing some cash. We had plenty of very promising young central midfielders, but only one genuine assist monster (D'Acol Joaquim), so we bought two of the best passers in the world.

Fernandez was disappointing with only 2 assists in 34 games (with 8 goals ?). Ricci had a better season with 12 assists in 51 games (and only 2 goals) - not as many assists as I was hoping, but they went elsewhere and at least he didn't steal Colidio's goals.

An uncapped New Zealander who's never played outside of New Zealand and earns exactly 1000 times less per week than Renato does. Maybe they met online...

Fun Fact - Southgate Watch

It doesn't make any difference to me, but for those of you out there waiting for Southgate to get sacked:

Definitely has something on somebody at the FA...

Competitions

Once again we won all the domestic competitions. In the league, we went 36-1-1 (first loss in a couple of years) with 104 goals for and 10 against. A lot less goals than we were picking up a few years ago (around 120).

Elsewhere: We lost the European Super Cup (2-1 to Liverpool), but we won the Club World Championship and the Champions League Final (3-0 over Athletico Madrid).

Development & Awards

This is what Colidio looks like now:

He was World Player of the Year again (6th time):

Injuries

Colidio picked up a 3 week injury early on:

Goals

Two quadruples this year and a five goal effort:

At the club level, he scored 80 goals in 47 appearances:

Just like last year, he set both his best total and his best ratio.

ITN Goals

Colidio started the season with 66 ITN goals (9 scored before I took over):

By the end of the season, he'd scored another 9 goals (in 5 games) at ITN level.

Progress

28 years old (EOY) Season Total
Club Goals 80 690
ITN Goals (-9)   9   66
Totals 89 756

A total of 89 goals this year. A good return considering the injury, but a fair way short of the prediction of 97 goals made by Dutch journalist BatiGoal.

Of course when I was playing the final games, I forgot to subtract the 9 ITN goals (from before my time in the ITN job), so for a short time I thought he'd actually scored 98 goals! :unamused:

The Future

Colidio has just turned 28 and is three quarters of the way there now. Another 3 seasons like this will see us home. And as for BatiGoal... he'll keep for next season!

Sorry had to cancel this morning's interview with your boy Colidio. Something came up, needed to travel to a small Hungarian village near the border with Serbia where I'm staying for the next 3 days. Preparations are underway for the annual mountain donkey race, which I'm delighted to be covering this year. We're expecting this cover story to generate far more readers than the uneventful Facu one with his ever-ineffective trickery on the grass.

Maybe next season.

That's cool, everyone knows of your ... fondness ... for donkeys.. :P

Both the BBC and Sky interviewers said it's not the first time this has happened - they were quite happy, as they got extra time with Facundo. :D

Spoiler

Let's hope Colidio beats 97 next season, before I take this too far (if I haven't already)!!
