Unfortunate Cup run but nothing more you could do I think. You lost to a better side. You're rocking the league tho. Great stuff!

Getting to the Liverpool tie was gravy! (Though I woulda loved to see us dump the Scousers out lol)

Aye the League is humming nicely!

Part 15 - Back Among the Mid-Boys

"THEY THINK IT'S ALL OVER - IT IS NOW!"

That's the vacation over then. We've been watching the World Cup (except for the Nevilles doing punditry in Russia) and it's now time to get back to work.  With the Conference North trophy glistening in the office,  it's time to prepare for our first season back in the National in 3 years. That always means transfers.

The promotion to Conference National meant we needed to improve the squad massively,  and this meant a massive turnover in the squad,  chiefly a rebuilt defensive core and an improved midfield.

IMPORTANT MOVES

2017_12_02_03_05_13.thumb.png.17c75b6f700849002c4e43acd80547e3.png

- Oh no Jose what is you doing releasing Scott McTominay? The Man Utd academy product joins our stable of young talent to provide an effective fulcrum in the middle of the park.

2017_12_02_03_05_24.thumb.png.ee2cc37ae1911709baa3f5820921cf06.png

- The ex-Baggies midfielder joins us to help shield the backline and break up counterattacks.

2017_12_02_03_05_59.thumb.png.5d3b57b122e2762dedf9d893111b1e09.png

- That's a couple of former Baggies joining us here in Telford as Shaun Donnellan signed along to become our #1 centerback.

2017_12_02_03_05_44.thumb.png.8cefaa86c01cb140c20952898d969730.png

- What a miss. The Chelsea youth reject may look bad now but he's hunkered down and worked on improving himself, with great things now expected of him.

PRESEASON FIXTURES

2017_12_01_15_14_36.thumb.png.52990819f4496519f26e82d6301b2d0c.png

- I would say it's a reasonable preseason,  and holding the Exiles to a draw is something to be proud of.

Join us next time for the start of our Conference National season as we face a familiar foe....

Part 16 - Of Sieves and Shootouts

"COME ON! WORK THOSE SHIFTS!" - I howl as the defenders go into their drills. We've gone through our observations and credit to them for putting the shifts in. Why? Let's have a peek at our first month back in Conference National

Matchday 1 - at York Street

2017_12_04_01_49_42.thumb.png.b5cc63ffd2fd4bcb952ebf4dc13a1df1.png

- We opened our Conference National campaign in the same place we ended our Conference North-winning season last year, but in more exciting circumstances as a looping Scott McTominay volley saved us a point against the Pilgrims.

Matchday 2 - at the New Bucks Head

2017_12_04_01_49_54.thumb.png.898a38c93fa94fb254e604203ec3e965.png

- We then picked up our first win with a more organized effort against a game but wasteful Guiseley side.

Matchday 3 - at York Road

2017_12_04_01_50_58.thumb.png.7448d70fc22fbc6b2ec18f11095d8856.png

- Our first trip down to Berkshire in a while provides a doozy of a game where Jake Pickard saves our blushes with a wonderful volley for the win.

Matchday 4 - at Kingfield

2017_12_04_01_51_13.thumb.png.5766f951d73c6eccb0573ff564a9b2aa.png

- Jordan Murphy you lad. Our top scorer last season hits a brace to win in Surrey.

(On a personal note I enjoy playing Woking due to the fact that the better Younghusband brother was once on their books.)

2017_12_04_06_18_36.thumb.png.a9f5a7f2f28f972222d0cb124bbeff84.png

Matchday 10 - at the NBH

2017_12_04_06_19_42.thumb.png.d4c119401c0c00059adec819da09c7c6.png

- Our old defensive frailties rear their ugly head again even as a Filipe Morais wonderstrike steals the win against a Dagenham side that deserved a point.

Matchday 11 - at Brisbane Road

2017_12_05_14_39_57.thumb.png.01cf0533186f7ed18e2e4098e0fe9a76.png

- Seeing Pedro Chirivella available to sign was an easy swoop, as he is an absolute quality player that should be in the Championship, while Croatia U-21 captain Basic signed after being caught in the political crossfire at the Maksimir and provides a new dimension to our frontline with his continental mentality.

Matchday 27 - at Blundell Park

2017_12_05_14_41_43.thumb.png.6693a8349a1e323a7807cfff3775d6e3.png

- We begin 2019 in inconspicuous circumstances, as wasteful finishing opened us up to a draw at Grimsby.

Matchday 28 - at the Crabble

2017_12_05_14_41_56.thumb.png.ceabc97a98456a71106b9cb889d9dffe.png

- A poor performance all around sees us lose heavily at Dover.

Matchday 29 - at the NBH

2017_12_05_14_42_08.thumb.png.b6d30d3feb2c21472d521b36c0756032.png

- More wasteful finishing and a rising tide of indiscipline see us lose late to Woking.

Matchday 30 - at the NBH

2017_12_05_14_42_21.thumb.png.e57b4d0a7e3235fbaa35a3967982fa4e.png

- We finally break our duck in 2019 with a narrow win against a Maidstone side in lower mid-table.

- Our stuttering start to 2019 ends up not affecting our lead atop the Conference as everyone below us slipped up as well.

Part 22 - The Magic Lives

Welcome to the 2018-19 FA Cup special newsletter! We take a look back at Telford's FA cup run this year with high hopes after making it to the 4th round last year. Would they be able to keep their sparkling Cup exploits up? Let's find out!

800px-Fa_cup_svg.png.1435e31460a18d3985980ba1b08efb1c.png

FOURTH QUALIFYING ROUND VS HEREFORD FC (NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE)

AT THE NEW BUCKS HEAD

2017_12_05_14_43_03.thumb.png.de817d07b449d7c7afdb8b2044723c61.png

- We begin our Cup campaign with relatively easy passage to the First Round after a comfortable win over a game Bulls side.

FIRST ROUND VS CHELTENHAM TOWN (FL2)

AT THE NBH

2017_12_05_14_43_31.thumb.png.3f0b622b7c9db8ee742991f84e8be7c5.png

- Cheltenham jumped on us early but a quick equalizer seemingly broke their spirits and led to a 5-star thumping taking us into the Second Round.

SECOND ROUND VS NEWPORT COUNTY (FL2)

AT RODNEY PARADE

2017_12_05_14_43_45.thumb.png.e86704cc4b765e7f9fcfdffb0f363f97.png

- Absolute madness from Exiles keeper Lee Camp allows us to complete the comeback and book passage to the Third Round two seasons running

THIRD ROUND VS READING (FLC)

2017_12_05_14_43_58.thumb.png.de79736953372a470b15b0e5c1a42dcd.png

2017_12_05_14_44_15.thumb.png.4bbc0392b76c0ea3eb5eaecdcc7a47b5.png

- A pulsating draw in the original tie leads to even more drama in the replay at the Madejski,  but the gulf of talent between us and the Royals end up spelling the difference as they dump us out of the Cup after a replay.

Final thoughts: While it wasn't as deep as last season, taking Reading to the limit and consecutive Third Round visits mean our Cup campaign is an overall success.

Part 23 - The Home Stretch Awaits

"It's always the same issue with-", as the radio clicks off. The lights on the office shine bright across the room as I finish my training plans for the home stretch, the words on Five Live hanging across the room like the scent of our chasers.

2017_12_06_15_36_20.thumb.png.be6552ab6988bf2b2af3f0a7082cc495.png

Matchday 34 - at the NBH

2017_12_06_15_36_33.thumb.png.4c42d1355d35a6fd533c7dae970f13fe.png

- We followed it up with a scrappy draw with Orient at home to impede their chase, the O's having succeeded Dagenham in second.

Matchday 35 - at the Moss Rose

2017_12_06_15_36_45.thumb.png.2a0ec449519e9595d93c6dcbcb96e201.png

- We begin our FA trophy defence with a routine victory over an overmatched Lowestoft side.

2017_12_10_20_36_33.thumb.png.2953fe42a56c4967e87129fa8db292d6.png

- It may be one goal less,  but still the same result as we advance to the Third Round.

THIRD ROUND

VS HAMPTON AND RICHMOND AT THE NBH

2017_12_10_20_36_48.thumb.png.e32cb061a1c475c6fd60baa785592075.png

SEMI-FINAL

- A rematch of last year's Final sees us thump the Silkmen 6-3 on aggregate to come back to Wembley.

FA TROPHY FINAL

VS MAIDSTONE UTD

AT WEMBLEY

2017_12_10_20_37_41.thumb.png.8c781ede33575b6c103b727f55bd3d1f.png

- Where last season's Final was a pulsating game with lots of goals,  this one was a drab game livened up by Remi Matthews seeing red for punching a Maidstone fan who'd jumped the pitch. A second straight Trophy eases the pain though.

Part 26 - A New Horizon

"So John,  they say you're odds-on favorites to go back down into the Conference - all the punters have you at least priced at 500-1 to stay up. Why do you think they're wrong?"

- Well this is odd.... I'd been preparing for this question but Jeff Stelling straight-up asking me on Sky Sport has thrown me for six. Why DO I think we're staying up?

"Jeff, I'll be honest. Most punters may not have seen us fly up the Conference but we did,  and 4 trophies in 2 seasons should be enough proof."

I do know it'll be a long first year in the Football League, but there's always hope eternal! Let's go!

2017_12_11_16_04_25.thumb.png.b475a74ee48b189ea0b1ab2bc5ed5dbc.png

- It's a typical Telford off-season, looking at youngsters cast-off from bigger clubs and offering them guaranteed game time,  and this off-season was focused on strengthening the defence to cope with the talent gap between the Conference and League Two. Ben Unsworth is notable for being Telford's record signing and our first real moneyed transfer since taking over at Telford.

SPOTLIGHT

2017_12_11_16_04_33.thumb.png.eca6b7445787f8ca980c22a70c147b26.png

- What a stroke of luck we had here. The ex-Boro center-half had a mare of a time at Arsenal after signing for 10 1/2 million pounds and was released this off-season....and we got him! To get a Premiership-quality center back on a free? Most managers would saw their balls off and I only got him on the promise of playing time!

OUT

2017_12_11_16_04_46.thumb.png.47d60443248f24bff40eda9e15b2b145.png

2017_12_11_16_04_57.thumb.png.998aff7460a2158ede1596979ab16a43.png

- The biggest outgoing was definitely Jordan Murphy getting Charlie'd by Huddersfield for pence on the pound after scoring 62 goals for us in two seasons,  though Dillon Barnes' new record outgoing transfer helps ease the pain.

PRESEASON

2017_12_11_16_03_53.thumb.png.d036c6dd3cfb6c2106386b5f4d6b7178.png

See you all next time as we talk about August!
