Help National Rank in World Ranking

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. I'm currently managing Augsburg and Germany in my save file. I brought many German youngster for my club and use them a lot in matches. Some of them really impressed me, so I call them up to the previously empty national squad instead of the more famous and valuable players. After that, my Germany side keeps on winning and managed to qualified for World Cup 2018. But then, after the qualification stages are complete, Germany ranking suddenly dropped from 1st to 3rd.

I just want to know that calling young and low reputation players to national squad affects the rankings or not, and how to raise it up again after it dropped. Thanks

I always thought the World Ranking was a formula based on results.

Read the Wikipedia entry on FIFA Ranking System mate

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_World_Rankings

Weird. I haven't lose a single match with Germany (mainly because of Neuer and Boateng, and the strongest opponent I have in my group was just Ireland), and at one point rank 1st after qualified World Cup. After that, the rank suddenly dropped.

Really hope it dropped wasn't because of my player's reputation, because Timothy Tillman, Nadiem Amiri and Timo Werner were amazing, both for Augsburg and Germany. I don't want to remove them just because of this :'(

The FMM World Rankings are based on the FIFA World Rankings system, not player reputation.

This is likely why you dropped - strength of opponent has a pretty big impact on how many points you get over the period. It's a pretty complicated formula, which is laid out in the article Fozz linked to here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_World_Rankings#Current_calculation_method and it's not as simple as a league table as not every team plays each other.

FIFA rankings have been in the news the last few months because countries are "gaming" the system, by not playing friendlies. This leads to them getting a higher average points over the period. Here's a good article on this: http://www.givemesport.com/1195641-how-poland-have-played-the-fifa-rankings-to-reach-pot-one-in-the-world-cup-draw.

Those pesky Poles lol.

Will FIFA be looking to nip that in the bud in future?

Thanks. Good to know that it wasn't because of my players. Hopefully it will go up after the World Cup.

There are plenty of issues with the FIFA rankings (the wiki article alludes to some eg what they did after 2010). When I looked into this, apparently the ELO ratings (http://www.eloratings.net/system.html) are a better predictor of world cup success. But FIFA are highly unlikely to change their formula and it is the one that media uses (even if they dont have a clue how it is worked out) so can fully understand why SE have gone down this path.

I still think there's a problem with the way the rankings are calculated in FMM18 to be honest. It is not uncommon to see African nations on the top after the CAN competitions. In the FIFA rankings these nations do jump on the rankings, but never to the top.
