Career "We're Getting the Band Back Together" - Pardew

Intro

The summer of 2011. Newcastle United have just finished 12th in their return to the premier league. 

In a drastic move they rid themselves of what many believed to be the heart of the team with the likes of Kevin Nolan and Joey Barton going out. These players are replaced by a notably French (and cheap) contingent. Graeme Carr has found some bargains on the continent for Newcastle apparently.

This does lead to some unrest amongst the fans as the only notable signings are known playmaker Cabaye and a player whose knee had been described as a "ticking time bomb" Demba Ba. Juat what could this team do?

Fast forward to the end of the season and Newcastle had upset the pundits and broken the top 6 up by finishing 5th picking up noted Senegalese bagsman Papiss Demba Cisse along the way.

Pardew won LMA manager of the year and people wanted to know how they had done this on the modest budget they had spent.

It was a hell of a season, and one I will never forget as a Newcastle fan. 

Fast-forward to 2017 and Newcastle have just come back from relegation again. Lets get the band back together!

I will be using a squad comprised only of players who were at Newcastle during the 2011-2012 season. Notable stalwarts such as Coloccini and Gutierrez will be missing however, along with the retired Steve Harper and the late Cheick Tiote (RIP).

Can we stun the league again? We will see.

Thing is. I didnt post it twice. But it somehow appears twice. Its not like i copy/pasted the lot without knowing haha. Thanks for the follow. It will only be a 1 or 2 update career at 1 season. Just something i started yesterday and finished today.

There is the team. I tried for Cabaye and Ben Arfa but Cabaye is super happy at palace and Ben Arfa is on 180k a week! We shall do our very best anyway.

Krul got injured pre season and failed a medical. Thats why i got Forster. I didnt need Krul later on.

Cabaye was a great player for us, not as iconic as Ginola was though.

I did have a soft spot for Laurent Robert...he could score from anywhere!

Totally agree. Ginola is a total legend and Robert could find the net blindfolded and facing the wrong way.

Being a Spurs fan, I second the opinion that Ginola is legend.

You should spend all your budget to try and tempt the long haired handsome beast of a fellow out of retirement....cos he’s worth it. ?

The year did not begin well as the new/old boys tried to settle in.

Opening the league campaign with one win out of five league games and also taking extra time to beat bury! Things soon picked up however.

Our first big game win came at the expense of Liverpool. Cisse is back with a brace!

That was followed the next month with a dominant display over Arsenal at home.

November was a big month in fact:

A nice comeback from 2 goals down saw us draw with Man City.

We followed this up with our biggest win of the season

Cisse hits a few as expected bit Obertan with 4!?! Who knew Nosferatu had such game?

We then smashed Man United just in time for christmas.

The next interesting match 

This game flip flopped 

0-1, 1-1, 1-2, 2-2, 2-3, 3-3, 3-4 and 4-4. Marveaux with a veritable tour de force!

The final fun match of the year?

This victory may not seem like the biggest but Spurs were top of the league and this shook them off the top.

So those are the fun matches, next update we will have the results.

Results

So here we are, season over. Before we see how the guys did lets look at some of the bigger events and injuries.

In january we sign Demba Ba

4 games later......

God damn it! Best went down too.

How did we get on though?

6th! Not quite as good as 2011/2012 but good enough. Who pushed this team along though?

Obertan was a revelation, 30 goals and 18 assists show why Man U signed him way back.

Cisse got plenty of goals too!

How was my managerial performance overall?

Over 50% win rate! When was the last time you could say that about NUFC in the premier league?

I missed this, but was a great read in hindsight. You did a lot better than I thought when I saw those player attributes - most haven't aged well! at all. Great stuff and thanks for the reminder of that magical season (too bad we couldn't maintain that sort of season)...
