Career NucleusNT completes the John Charles/ 1K Challenge

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages..I bring to you my attempt at the John Charles challenge. For those of you unfamiliar with it, here’s the link...

Yeah, so basically I have to find a player who is a natural CB, convert him into a striker, and score more than 385 goals with him. Easy right? 

Player Reveal

So I decided on four attributes that I think will be vital in order to complete this challenge.

• Pace
• Movement
• Shooting
• Aerial

As aerial comes naturally to most CB’s, I searched for players with a minimum of 10 in the other three attributes and someone who I think can be converted to play as the big man up top. My search has brought my attention to a certain Norwegian CB from the Scottish Premier...

Kristoffer Ajer, my new John Charles. Decent all around attributes, hopefully after some attacking training he will be a wonderful striker. As he’s currently at Celtic I decided to start with them also, because..why not.

Season 1

Ok so I enjoyed this season so much o have an update quicker than planned!

Transfers

Just the three incoming transfers, I felt I could slowly build the squad seeing as I’m Celtic and winning the league is a given

Those two big outgoing transfers happened at the end of the season, they were both a big part of the team but I couldn’t turn down that sort of money for the pair

League

Yeah...easy

Cups

A domestic treble this season. We crashed out of the Europa league knockout rounds to Benfica after finishing third in a tough Champions league game.

Start of season....

So as you can see he’s a natural CB. When retraining him as a striker he was showing limited aptitude, but I persevered and to be fair to him he never complained.

End of season...

One season down and he’s now an accomplished striker, fantastic. Now let’s have a look at his stats for this year

I couldn’t have asked for much better! 41 goals! Next season should only get better now that he’s a nice shade of green in the striker position.

Very lucky in getting him retrained in less than a season!  It took me about 4 years to get Paterson retrained, and he was yellow as a striker at the start!

Good choice of player though and an excellent start. Looking forward to following this one.

I know! I would have been happy if he was any colour in the position at the end of he season, to be a shade of green is brilliant. Thanks mate

Could I say you've won this challenge before you even started? Yes, very fortunate he's already green in the ST position but you picked the player so credit to you. Considering that it's the best imaginable start

What did it actually say? Poor? Very poor? The fact that you've transformed a CB into a natural striker in roughly a year's time is just mind-blowing.

Maybe your staff (multiple attacking coaches) and experienced/veteran forward players in the squad your re-training player can learn from added to his successful transformation.

I’ve only got the one attacking coach. The others are general,defensive and fitness. My manager one is also general. Dembele was the only other striker, plus a lad on loan from PSG who was there at the start of the save

Yeah, think you have this one in the bag already after the first season. Great choice of player and perfect league to do it as well. Might as well make it into a 1kc

Season 2

He did it, just over a years time and we have successfully converted our CB into a striker. Don’t ask me how, I have no idea.

few new faces this season, half of these arriving in January mind.

We’ve seen the big two names leaving already, a couple of others joining them also

League

Not as dominant this year, but still a league title

Cups

An easy win in the Betfred Cup but we get FM’d in the Scottish cup semi finals.

Season history

For some weird reason my trophy cabinet says I’ve won the league twice this season. I’ll post this in the bugs thread.

Lovely greens all over the board and a fantastic season to show for it also, 48 goals this time, hoping to break the 50 mark next year.

Season 3

Transfers

Few new faces coming in to replace the stars that left. Most notably, Kieran Tierney going to Liverpool for £50m. Huge loss, but he wanted bigger things and I couldn’t turn down that sort of money, that money would save the whole challlenge later on in the year. More on that later.

League

Comfortable again in the league

Cups

Robbed in the Betfred cup, a victory in the Scottish cup and a semi final thrashing in the Europa league. Not too bad a season, could’ve been better.

Those greens 

A fantastic season, we smash the 50 goal mark and it should have been so much more! Midway through the season he decided he wanted a bigger challenge and would not budge on a new contract. That’s where that £50m came in handy. It allowed me to tweak the wage budget so I could offer him around £80k in wages which he gladly accepted, the dip in form for about two months was horrible to watch however.

Total goals - 142/385

Im not sure how long this challenge can go on. I’ve noticed that I only loaded Scotland as a playable league, so if he does move on to bigger things, I’m not sure how I can bring him back. I just pray to the FM gods that he has a change of heart

What kind of super player have you created ffs, he can defend, pass the ball, provide assists, score a goal, you have transformed him into the complete player  

Perhaps lacking pace is the only negative but at 22yo it's still possible to see this too bump to green levels within a couple years. He's the perfect player for the Ironman Challenge I created years ago that no one's ever attempted lol. But looking at this career I think it might have inspired a few souls to take the "impossible" on so I may rewrite and repost that challenge later this week for the very very ambitious among us

Season 4

Transfers

Not much in the market this season, just strengthening positions I thought needed it.

League

We suffered 3 losses this season. Two of them coming against Rangers, to be honest our form was up and down all year.

Cups

We beat Rangers In the final of the Betfred cup but they avenge that defeat on penalties in the semi final of the Scottish cup

Europe

Knocked out by Arsenal in the first knockout stage of the Champions league. European glory evades us once again.

Kristoffer Ajer

His attributes look awesome. His form this season however was patchy. Only 32 goals to add to his tally, he had a few niggly injuries this season also which did not help matters. Hoping he can kick on next season, good news is that he hasn’t complained about wanting to leave this year.

Transfers

Oliver Burke coming in this year, a signing I was really excited about

Shifting the deadwood

League

So bloody close to being a perfect season. These are the fixtures i drew

Late goals in each match takes away the perfect season away from us. I’m starting to think it’s impossible to achieve

Cups

Back to our best this year with a domestic treble.

Europe

A Kylian Mbappé goal in the second leg sees us drop out in the quarter finals in a game we really should have won.

A change of tactic was needed after last seasons slump. I also decided he needed to keep more fresh, so I took him off after 60 minutes or so in each game but started him in every game possible. It paid off....

He breaks the 60 goal mark this time around to get the challenge back on track. Fantastic work from him. I really don’t know how some people are scoring a 100+ goals a season this year. It truly baffles me

Cheers mate, I feel that subbing him off most games actually worked better than the tactic. Not once this season did I have “slightly tired” on his personal page

He looks awesome doesn’t he. I’m just stumped at how some people are banging in 100+goals a season. Not even getting close to that
