Career Monaco back on track

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, after a while I'm finally back! I'm starting this career of with AS Monaco, enjoy reading :-)
I'm actually using this career as well to figure out how the False Nine ( Trequarista role ) works out.

AS Monaco have lost most of their star players after a great 2016/2017 season. Kylian Mbappé joined PSG, Bernardo Silva joined Manchester City and Benjamin Mendy left for Manchester City as well.
It's time to make sure a new generation of superstars is standing up at AS Monaco.

First impressions

Let's have look at the first impressions I had of AS Monaco.
We have a budget of 22,93M euros and a wage budget of 59,94M euros.

Let's look at some of our top players :
GK : Subasic
DF : Sidibé
MF: Fabinho
AT : Falcao

We have some exciting young players as well, like Bongiovanni, Mboula, Badiashile, Vinagre, Cardona, Tielemans and Touré.

State of the squad

I've consulted with the Assistant-Manager. Currently the squad needs to improve on a couple of things :

  • We need a bit more physique
  • We need another central midfielder
  • We need another right winger
  • We need a young striker

The goals AS Monaco have set for new manager Jeroen Kuijk with the ultimate goal of improving the squad overall and getting some young talent who can carry the squad for the next 10 years. AS Monaco wants to get rid of their status as a stepping stone, they want to be on top of the world within 5 years ending the spell of dominance for PSG.

  • Mount a serious challenge for the league title ;
  • Reach the final of the French Cup ;
  • Reach the Quarter Finals of the Champions League ;
  • Have at least one young player break into the first XI ;

AS Monaco will play in a 4-1-2-2-1 formation.
Keeper :
We'll start the season off with Subasic, but we'll keep an eye on how Badiashile will improve throughout the season.

Defenders :
Sidibé will be our right wing-back
Glik and Jemerson will pair up in the centre als ball-playing defenders
Jorge will be our left full-back

Midfielders :
We got Fabinho at CDM acting as our deep lying playmaker
Tielemans and Moutinho will be the centre halves advanced playmakers.

Attackers :
On the left we got left-winger Lemar
We got inside forward Rony Lopes on the right
Falcao will be our false nine on top.

The team will be play balanced in a narrow shape. The ball pace will be regular and the players are given lots of creative freedom in the final third.

Loving the bullet points!

Best of luck. I’m intrigued how well Falcao does in that role.

I do as well. If it doesn't work out I'll have Lautaro Martinez taking his place in the starting XI

It's the end of January 2018. It's time to see where Monaco is and what this manager has achieved :

State of the squad :

  • We need a bit more physique
Done. Monaco bought Ajer and Wendel to improve the strength of the squad
  • We need another central midfielder
Done. Monaco actually got three of them : Arthur, Wendel and Mamadou Coulibaly
  • We need another right winger
    Done. Monaco bought Felice d'Amico
  • We need a young striker
We got 2 : Lautaro Martinez and Kwang-Son Han

All of the transfers :

Incoming :

  • Kwang-Son Han
    20.5 million
  • Kristoffer Ajer
    16 million
  • Mamadou Coulibaly
    13.5 million
  • Lautaro Martinez
    13 million
  • Wendel
    13 million
  • Vinicius Junior
    12 million
  • Arthur
    10 million
  • Felice d'Amico
    3.7 million

Outgoing :

  • Keita Baldé
    28.5 million
  • Kévin N'Doram
    13 million
  • Soualiho Meité
    7.25 million
  • Rachid Ghezzal
    6 million
  • Tafsir Chérif
    3.2 million
  • Andrea Raggi
    2 million
  • Raphaël Diarra
    1.7 million

Due to transfers, the squad has slightly changed.

Lemar              Rony Lopes
  Wendel      Coulibaly
Jorge Ajer   Jemerson Sidibé

Radamel Falcao

The big question is : how is Falcao doing as a false nine?

After 21 matches, he has scored 17 goals and provided 2 assists.

League Table

AS Monaco 52 points
Olympique Marseille 50 points
Toulouse FC 47 points
Paris Saint Germain 42 points
OGC Nice 36 points
