Career Nucleus attempts the Augusta National Golf Club Challenge

Yes, you read it right and yes, I have gone mental.

Welcome Vibe, to my newest challenge attempt, and as you’ve probably guessed I will be attempting the most mental challenge ever created. The challenge creator @samhardy is an absolute lunatic for even thinking it up! I am of course talking about the ‘Augusta National Golf Club Challenge’

If you don’t know what this challenge entails then please do have a read through the link above to get a fair idea. It’s a mammoth challenge that will last 22, yes 22 seasons. Some say it turned @BatiGoal crazy after his attempt earlier in the year! The journey I’m about to go through will either make me or break me as an FMM player. 

The Team

The rules state i must use a team playing in the Champions/Europa League and also in a league consisting of 38 league games. After careful consideration I’ve decided to head for some sun in the south of France. Monaco to be precise.

Thats right, Les Rouges et Blancs have hired me as their new manager and have no idea what the challenge I’ve set myself is!

I actually think I made this challenge too easy looking at it, even though that might seem mad. All the targets are very achievable and eagles on par 4s never happen. Will definitely be making it harder next year

Anyway that's not the point and I'm looking forward to seeing if you can knock the clown that is @BatiGoal off top spot. Should be an intense battle.

Explains why I've been more off than on the site recently. I've been following an intensive recovery program the second I staggered of hole 18.

Hole 1 - Tea Olive (Par 4)

So you've picked your team and are ready to start on this mammoth journey. What? Tea Olive? Yes, every hole at Augusta is named after the flower or tree that grows on that particular hole. Anyway, it's a flower native to Asia and is a fairly tricky hole to start off with. A birdie is very much achievable however it may be wise to just accept the par for the first hole, keep your score at 0 and move on. After all, you don't want to be +1 after just the first hole.

Challenge - Buy an Asian GK and ensure he concedes as few league goals as possible.

Eagle - 0-9 conceded

Birdie - 10-19 conceded

Par - 20-29 conceded

Bogey - 30-39 conceded

 Double Bogey - 40+ conceded

Transfers 

Managed to bring in £31million to the kitty, which was just enough to get the players I wanted.

Ive not tried Bentancur this year so he’ll be a welcome addition to the squad. As you can probably see, Adam Federici is my chosen Asian goalkeeper for this hole.

Just the 7 losses all season ain’t too bad. None of this matters really though, as all we care about is league goals conceded.

League Table

24 league goals conceded puts us on par for the first hole, which I’m delighted with to be honest. I thought I’d completely messed up when I stuck a reserve keeper in the net for one game, but after speaking to challenge creator @samhardy he stated that I’d not broken any challenge rules.

As you can see, Federici played in 37 league games and conceded 23 goals. Subasic played in one league game and conceded one goal. So that all adds up to par, which like I said earlier is alright by me.

This is your chance to make up some early ground and get ahead of the game before the more challenging holes start. It really is a case of risk versus reward, however, in seasons 2 and 3.

Challenge - Buy a striker from a club that wears pink. First season he must score as many as possible in all comps, must be beaten in second season. If the second season total is lower you automatically receive a double bogey. Must score over 30 first season or get the same punishment.

Eagle - 60-70 scored

Birdie - 50-59 scored

Par - 40-49 scored

Bogey - 30-39 scored

 Double Bogey - Under 30

The Player in Pink

Don’t think this is Roger, but it just proves that Levante do in fact play in pink.

Transfers

I was shocked to find out that the £160 million we get for Mbappé doesn’t actually go back into the transfer kitty. So in actual fact we only received £87 million in outgoing transfers for the season.

Joe Gomez impressed on loan last season so I decided to make the move permanent. Henrichs and Upamecano also join, with Gabriel and Omeruo coming on free transfers from Roma and Chelsea respectively. Arambarri is Diego Forlan’s regen I believe, and of course Roger joins us from Levante for £12million.

Manager Profile and Season History

 

A better season all round for the team, winning the League, Trophée des Champions and the French Cup. Being runners up in the Champions League and Coupe de la Ligue was a bit of a kick in the teeth however.

The Player in Pink (End of Season)

Some slight improvement in attributes, although nothing major.

We hit the 60 goal mark required for an eagle in mid April, I decided not to play him anymore for the remainder of the season.

So we are on for an eagle in part 2 of this challenge so long as Roger can top the 60 goals he scored this season. If he doesn’t top that 60 goal mark I receive the dreaded double bogey which is +2 on my score!

Part 2 :-

So in the first part of this challenge we managed to hit 60 goals in all competitions from our player in pink - Roger. All that means is that this season he must surpass that total to give me an Eagle for the hole. Failure is not an option as I will receive a double bogey which puts me way behind after just two holes.

Transfers

A coupe of the lads, Arthur and Jorge in particular were courted by the sharks this season. They became outcasts as a result so I had no choice but to sell.

We spend big. Over a £100m in fact. The three strikers at the bottom of the list were loaned straight back to their respective clubs, they are for hole 3 which we’ll go into later.

Manager Profile & Season History

Not overly fussed about my profile at this stage if I’m honest.

Our first European Cup of the career, coupled with a French Cup and another League title marks this as our best season to date. Lost 4 games in the league though which can be worrying.

This brace by Roger on the 1st of April were two huge goals....

Because it gives us the Eagle for the hole and puts us 2 under par for the challenge, and with the next hole a fairly do-able birdie, things are suddenly looking up.

He ended up with 71 which is 10 more than we needed. So in the end, a fairly comfortable hole and Roger proved his worth over the two seasons.

Hole 3 - Flowering Peach (Par 4)

Another fairly kind hole early on, however looks can be deceiving. Tread carefully here or risk dropping a few shots, however it's one you should be fine on given you have the whole season to do it.

Challenge - Have as many different players score a hat-trick in one season as possible. All competitions.

Birdie - 4+ players

Par - 3 players

 Bogey - 2 players

Double Bogey - 1 player

Triple Bogey - 0 players
