Hole 7 - Pampas (Par 4)

With a medium level of difficulty, this hole has an air of Argentina about it, with it being distinctive for the Pampas grass growing on it. With it being native to Argentina, I'm sure you can guess where the challenge for season 8 will be going.

Challenge - Buy an Argentine winger. Get as many goals and assists combined in all competitions as possible.

Eagle - 50+ goals + assists

Birdie - 40 goals and assists

Par - 30 goals and assists

Bogey - 20 goals and assists

Double Bogey - 19 goals and assists or less

50+ goals and assists looks a bit daunting on paper, but I don’t think it really is that high a target all things considered. For example, Thomas Lemar last season had 50+ goals and assists for me without being on free kicks, corner duties or penalties, and without having the passing focused down his side. So it’s safe to say if I can get the right player I’m a confident man on this hole.

The Argentinian Winger

And I believe this is the perfect candidate. Christian Pavón, with a big fat 20 in dribbling and movement should be able to find lots of space to run into and with a lovely 20 in crossing I’ve no doubt that will help on corner duties!

Huge transfer window for the club, some big names leaving us this summer as we total up £160 in transfer fees. An overhaul was needed due to an aging side.

Players in key positions being replaced, what a transfer window this was. Let’s start off with Pavón for £51 million being the highest which in my eyes is still a bargain in today’s market. Pablo Maffeo comes in to replace the ‘outcast’ Henrichs who is rotting in the reserves. Ben Woodburn comes in for a measly £21.5m, he was transfer listed so I just couldn’t resist buying my compatriot. Alec Delaney is a young American regen left winger/wingback. I tried buying the original player for the wingback challenge but he was nearing on retirement and wasn’t having any of it. Finally, we acquired the services of Dele Alli and Gianluigi Donnarumma both on free transfers.

The Tactic

I’ve gone for my usual formation for this challenge, one that’s bode well with me throughout 2018 to be honest. The only changes I’ve made is that I’ve swapped Lemar’s role to an AP, I’ve pushed the wingbacks up as I feel they’ll force Pavón and Lemar to cut inside by being in a more advanced position, and finally I’ve changed the Sweeper Keeper to a nice and simple Keeper. I was experimenting with the striker’s roles throughout the season but I judged the AF to work best. Other instructions were simply playing down the left hand side to get Pavón on the ball as often as possible and also putting him on all corner, free kick and penalty duties. So nothing too complicated to be honest.

Nice set of 20’s on the board now which always looks nice but isn’t a necessity.

Another stellar campaign. Single figures in he league with just 9 goals conceded and retaining all the trophies won from the previous season. Great stuff, but how did our Argentinian winnger get on is the question?

He actually suffered a couple of niggly little injuries, nothing major but they were enough to decrease some of his attributes. Then again, he doesn’t look to unfamiliar to his start of season page. So, did we manage over 50 combined goals and assists from him?

Of course we did. 40 goals and 25 assists is more than enough for an eagle on this hole and puts us in a very comfortable posistion at 8 under par! I was hoping for more from him to be honest but it’s still a great total and not to be ashamed of.

Hole Total: -2

Running Total: -8

Thanks for reading and for your comments lads, it’s much appreciated. This luck has to end at some point, and I think this next challenge will play a part in that. It’s the start of three holes on the spin that I’ve been absolutely dreading.....

Spoiler

Hole 8 - Yellow Jasmine (Par 5)

A very long and drawn out hole, Yellow Jasmine is ideal for people looking to make up a couple of shots if they are falling down with their score. This two season challenge makes an eagle or a birdie the prime target for this hole.

Challenge - Buy a goalkeeper from a club that wears yellow. He must be played up front, and score as many goals in all competitions in two seasons as possible.

Eagle - 60 goals

Birdie - 45 goals

Par - 30 goals

Bogey - 20 goals

Double Bogey - 19 goals or less

I love Pavon. You love Pavon. Everyone should love Pavon. Still, 65 combined for him is immense. Great stuff.

Never used him before! He’s more of a winger type player which I never use, but he did the job as an IF for me so. He may have to be used as a winger in the next hole to be honest! 😁

Hole 8 - Yellow Jasmine (Par 5) - Part 1

A very long and drawn out hole, Yellow Jasmine is ideal for people looking to make up a couple of shots if they are falling down with their score. This two season challenge makes an eagle or a birdie the prime target for this hole.

Challenge - Buy a goalkeeper from a club that wears yellow. He must be played up front, and score as many goals in all competitions in two seasons as possible.

Eagle - 60 goals

Birdie - 45 goals

Par - 30 goals

Bogey - 20 goals

Double Bogey - 19 goals or less

So looking at this hole it sounds simple enough, but I’ve experimented briefly with keepers up front before, very briefly. It just doesn’t work and you could stick anyone upfront, it doesn’t matter as in my opinion the amount of goals Scored is purely luck based. There is no secret tactic to get them to score more and the best you can hope for is that they convert the awarded penalties and the occasional free kick.

The Player

So I though I could play Sam at his own words here and asked if I could pick a keeper from a ‘nation’ that wears yellow and he obliged! So I went for a young Brazilian goalkeeper....

Really good attributes for a GK, and at such a young age he’s got loads of room for improvement. After this hole is over he may even become my new number one.

Three first team player arriving. Palmer-Brown the American CB coming in with his compatriot Pulisic coming on a free transfer, and then obviously £6.75m was spent on the Yellow goalkeeper.

Eliminated in the quarter finals of the Champions League against Man City was a real blow after beating them in the first leg. We went unbeaten in the league but we had way too many draws for my liking. The story of the season was that we struggled for goals but our defence is as water tight as ever.

59 games and 14 assists, obviously goals don’t appear on a GK’s History page so we have to delve a little deeper for those stats.117681B1-D5B2-49BA-81CC-805207C9A829.thumb.png.250c3497529f367f2906925642d8169d.png

14 goals. So 24 goals in total and I’m not quite sure how I feel. Missed penalties and disallowed goals made for a very frustrating season, and like I said earlier it’s all based on luck in this hole and I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t score more than 10 in part two of this challenge.

Thanks for reading, Part Two will be released later today hopefully!

Dude 24 goals with a GK up front is pretty solid if you ask me, just grab the 6 you need for Par and anything over that is bonus material

Par was the target, but it’s just too unpredictable a challenge to be honest.

I agree with @Taff - 24 goals is very solid. You should try a 1kc with a goalkeeper as your next challenge 😭

Like I said above, too unpredictable and way too frustrating to grind a 1k with 😂 just to miserably fail in the end

Welcome to part two of Hole 8 where I have been slugging for goals with a goalkeeper upfront for two full seasons. First off, what am absolutely disgusting hole this is. By far the worst on the course so far, and Hole 10 aside maybe the whole course! It’s horrible! I’ve never been so frustrated I’m my life, sooo many missed penalties, and if he would have converted them we’d be on for an Eagle. Unfortunately he didn’t convert them, missed around 95% actually. Anyway to the results...

Winning everything this year apart from the Trophée des Champions, a great year but a frustrating one at that. It’s unbelievable how much you struggle for goals using a sole keeper upfront!

Goal Tally

24 goals last season meant that Birdie was achievable in a sense. But then there’s no sense in having a keeper upfront so it could go either way!

Make the most of this hole because after this it really starts to get tricky. You may want to go for the birdie however be careful as if you underestimate it, you'll end up dropping back.

Birdie - 65 overall

Par - 50 overall

Bogey - 35 overall

Hole 9 - Carolina Cherry - Par 4

After taking a break from this career to pursue other thing here on Vibe, most notably my H2H with this here challenge’s creator @samhardy which you can find here, I’m back with the update for hole 9 of this career.

Spoiler

Make the most of this hole because after this it really starts to get tricky. You may want to go for the birdie however be careful as if you underestimate it, you'll end up dropping back.

Birdie - 65 overall

 Par - 50 overall

Bogey - 35 overall

Double Bogey - 34 or less overall

So a simple enough challenge by the looks of it and par seems very much achievable, a birdie would be a bonus though!

First off lets have a look at the Bournemouth player I decided to sign!

The best of a bad bunch of players. I had to make do with him so I’m hoping he can kick on with a decent total. I very nearly failed to sign him after he wasn’t granted a work permit but the appeal was a success and he joins us in the south of France for this next part of our journey

Four incoming players, Isak being the biggest highlight along with Zlatan’s regen Ljungberg and of course Ejaria joins from Bournemouth.

Competitions

First up let’s have a look at a very special league campaign we just had. I didn’t realise until around 24 games in how good it was. It’s only the second time this year I’ve managed to achieve this feat this year...

Boom! 38/38 wins and conceding only 4 goals all season! After a quick check of the book of records I found that the record for league goals conceded stood at 2! So there goes that one, but I did manage to break a record and here it is..

35 clean sheets in the league trumps the previous record and I will be happily adding this to the record book 😁

All in all a flawless campaign and one that will be tough for me to beat.

Not too bad if I do say so!

Ovie Ejaria

Finally let’s have a look at how Ejaria got on.

15 goals and 38 assists is a great season but it’s just short of the birdie mark so I have to settle for Par.

Goals - 15

Assists - 38

Average Rating - 7

Total Points - 60

Hole Total: 0

Running Total: -8

So all in all a solid front 9 and I find myself 8 under par going into the next few holes which don’t look enjoyable at all! Here’s what awaits me as I start my road back to the clubhouse along the back 9

Hole 10 - Camellia (Par 4)

An absolutely monstrous challenge for anyone of any skill level. Arguably the toughest hole on the course, this season will require a total squad revamp. Before this point you've been able to keep *pretty much* whatever players you want. Not now. Even a bogey is tricky to get on this hole.

Challenge - At least 15 members of your squad must be Asian or American. On the 30th of every month, you must demote your 2 best performing players (Av.R wise) and never use them again. In January you may promote two players back up from the reserves of your choice. Win as many trophies as possible.

Birdie - Win all trophies

Par - Win all but 1

Bogey - Win all but 2

Double Bogey - Fail to win 3 of more

Thanks for reading

So here we are, the hole I’ve been dreading the most in this whole challenge. A full team makeover to an extent. My current team were either approaching their 30’s or were already in them, so the plan for this challenge was to simply not sell anyone, buy the required American/Asian players to get a full squad of 40 players and ultimately bite the bullet with losing memebers of the squad that have been in from the start. I would have to rebuild my team due to the age of the squad either way so the challenge was timed quite nicely.

£326 million pounds on a shiny new squad! A fair few arrived in January just to fill the positions I’d lost in the first half of the season. Mainly the inside forwards!

The Squad Nationalities:

So there we have the quota filled. 11 Americans, 3 Aussies and 1 Japanese Player means I’ve at least managed to not fail the challenge completely.

The AvR Casualties:

Federico Beduschi and Gilles Rivas the first victims of this challenge and it’s bye bye to them.

September & October:

Forgot to screenshot both months and didn’t realise until mid-November! but the casualties were Luca De la Torre and Adrien Bongiovanni In September, and Jake Donovan/Harry King in October.

November:

Off go Brad Meredith and Christian Pulisic. The latter was the first of the challenge to really hurt me as such.

December:

And this was the second one that hurt me. Thomas Lemar had to go along with Ermedin Djulbic. The Lemar one really hurt me as it left me no cover on the right wing so that’s why I had to go and buy some cover in January along with “promoting two back up from the reserves”

So that’s what I did. Thomas Lemar and Christian Pulisic are called back to hopefully last the rest of the season.

January:

Lemar lasts the month and that’s it! He and Woodburn have to go in what was probably the worst demotion so far in this challenge.

February:

Silvio Salzano a January arrival I believe has to go along with Gian Diaz

March:

This one really really really hurt! Alexander Isak and TAA both go in the same month. It left me really short in the right back slot as I only had Pablo Maffeo to call upon for the rest of the season

April:

We go through April relatively unscathed as we lose two of the backup players.

May:

Now we hit some conspiracy. My season finished on the 26th of May so the season was finished before the 30th of the month dropout. So I messaged challenge creator @samhardy what I should do and he told me I must demote two players on the 30th of May simply because I said his challenge was a “piece of cake” 😮 shock and awe. But off go Pablo Maffeo and Lyanco Evangelista (Neymar’s regen!)

The Reserve Squad:

So these are the players I’ve lost forever. These players may never play for the club again. I got away with keeping the majority of my defence/midfield. The most notable departures are Lemar,Isak,Evangelista,Woodburn and TAA.

Season Result:

The most important part of this challenge was how many trophies I won. Winning all trophies would result in a birdie, whilst missing out on one would mean par. I had a huge 7 competitions to compete in this year so I had my work cut out. Let’s see how I got on..

The three easy ones in the bag. Even though Madrid took me to penalties!

Domestic Cups in the bag. That leaves just the League and Champions league.

Unbeaten season. Never in doubt and that is par secured! Can we get a birdie with the champions league title?!

Course we can. Smashed Real Madrid to claim the birdie and go 9 under par for the challenge. Absolutely buzzing that I came through this one unscathed as it puts me in a really good position going forward considering I haven’t lost that much of my first team.

Domestic Bias was obviously going down in this hole but I’ve already made the moves to bring that back up.

There we have it. 13 league goals conceded in two seasons is a very good omen for the challenge that awaits me next!

Hole Total: -1

Running Total: -9

Thanks for reading, join me at the next hole where this beaut of a challenge awaits me..

Spoiler

Hole 11 - White Dogwood (Par 4)

Many golfers make the mistake of thinking this is a relatively straight-forward hole from the off, which is also one of the reasons why it's statistically one of the hardest on the course. Just like the course itself, this challenge looks simple, but the targets are very tough to hit, especially seen as the squad will need some serious work from the depleted bunch that finished season 12.

Challenge - Team must keep as many league clean sheets as possible in one season.

Birdie - 30+ clean sheets

 Par - 20-29 clean sheets

Bogey - 10-19 clean sheets

Double Bogey - 9 or less clean sheets
