Update - Season 11/12 - Calendar Year

Pinamonti's calendar year record (so far) is 101 goals in Season 10/11. Can he beat it this time around?

Club Goals

Pinamonti starts the year with 47 club goals:

pinamonti-season11a-02.jpg.84c1caf6a253bb91afc87195137a35c4.jpg

Then gets another 35 in the first half of the year (82-47), followed by 52 in the second half of the year:

pinamonti-season11a-04.jpg.98d3ddc3e9266634c06b336fa8f51106.jpg

Making it a total of 87 club goals.

ITN Goals

He starts with 134 goals:

pinamonti-season11a-01.jpg.aba0b0317b6a6036e389ad1f994ac9e5.jpg

And finishes the year with 162 goals:

pinamonti-season11a-03.jpg.3635c2a3ac29a9cee46650dcd98c7169.jpg

Making it a total of 28 ITN goals this year.

Total For The Year

Club Goals 87
ITN Goals 28
TOTAL: 115

That's Pinamonti's best calendar year yet. It would put him on top of the leaderboard right now, but I happen know that @Nucleus is sitting on a higher score (117). So Pinamonti is going to have to up his game next year!

woop woop congrats mate :D

Thanks mate. It has been an absolutely awesome season (I think my best ever) and I still have the Confederates Cup to go. Pinamonti was 122 goals short at the end of last season, which gives you an idea of it.

The key has been the goal/assist ratio of his teammates, which has improved a lot this year (many players who were 1:1 before were 1:2 this year). Anyway, a full write up in the next day or two.

Update - Season 12

We left Pinamonti only 122 goals short of the 1K at the end of last season. I thought we'd get within sniffing difference this season, and we'd knock it off early next season. It didn't quite turn out that way (as I've already spoiled above).

That's right, Pinamonti went ahead and scored 133 goals this season, passing the 1K mark with plenty to spare!

A Golden Season

This was indeed a golden season, with Pinamonti going way past his previous best of 115 goals.

ITN goals can vary a lot depending on fixtures, but in both this season and his previous best, he scored a LOT of ITN goals (35 and 34 respectively). The difference was club goals: 98 this season vs 81, which is about his average.

So why did he score a bunch more? Three things:

  1. I did a good job of keeping him fresh. His only bad run was near the end of the season where he went scoreless in a few games (just missing the 100 club goals, which I've never achieved).

  2. His teammates shared better than before, as you'll see in the assists section below. Every year we have a couple of players who score as many goals as they assist, but this year the worst ratios were 11 to 19 and 7 to 12. I have no idea why (previously selfish players were selfless this year) or how to replicate it, but I'll take it.

  3. He only missed a couple of penalties this year, finally becoming a lot more consistent in this regard.

I can tell you what wasn't the cause: Tactics. The previous season I experimented with some more attacking formations. I had some good results, but they never lasted more than a few games.

This season I doubled down on my 4 3 2 1 formation. It doesn't get nearly as many goals as others (such as @Nucleus) are getting, but it does funnel the majority through Pinamonti and I'm happy enough with that.

Alright, that's the overview, onto the rest of the update.

Transfers

A few transfers this season, with some big departures:

Spoiler

pinamonti-season12-35.jpg.46db40e6f456c964e1d446ae6bd3bc1e.jpg

pinamonti-season12-36.jpg.b729bab4d080dd8485747580d538bafa.jpg

Leaving us were:

  • Cattani: Our Pirlo regen. He's been a decent player, but never quite as good as I expected him to be (but then none of my DLPs have been as good as in 2017). At 32 and with declining performances, it was time to look to the future.

  • Pulisic: Was very good in his first season (a couple of years ago), but less effective each year. At 29 and with younger, better options, it was time to part ways.

  • Kieran Wright: Our John Terry regen. Very very good, but Stamina of 9 and weak as a wet paper bag. We kept him as our 4th CB for 5 or 6 seasons, but not worth persisting with him beyond that.

  • Augustinsson: Almost certainly the Ibrahimovic regen and a good backup striker, but just couldn't give him enough game time.

  • Carrera: One of our two backup DLPs to Cattani (also departing). We're going to overhaul this position and I felt it was time to wave him goodbye (although he's still in my Italy team).

Coming in were:

  • Zuber: A DLP who looks like he might be top notch. He's in the frame to claim Cattani's spot or at the very least be a good backup to whoever claims it.

  • Baumgartlinger: A good young left wing back. Tierney is still first choice but is the wrong side of 30 and his backup (Ashley Cole's regen) is top class, but suffers from the "Stamina of 9" problem. I expect Baumgartlinger to claim this position for his own within a few years (either that or be heading on back out the door).

  • Three promising young Italians that I don't need, but whom I want to train up for the national team. They might just get in the frame for a few games if they develop nicely. Or I may just train them up and cut them lose.

Competitions

Here's how we did in the various competitions this seasons (spoiler - we won them all):

  • Won the Community Shield, beating Man Utd 2-1.

  • Won the European Super League, 2-0 over Atletico (one goal to Pinamonti).

  • Won the Club World Championship, beating Osaka 2-0 in the final (both goals from Pinamonti).

  • Won the League Cup, beating Watford 2-0 in the final (both goals from Pinamonti).

  • Won the FA Cup, beating Bristol City 2-0 in the final (no romance here I'm afraid).

  • Won the Premier League comfortably again, but still only 110 goals in the For column.

  • Won the Champions League, beating Bayern 3-1 in the final (two goals from Pinamonti).

  • Italy won the International League, beating France 4-3 in an epic final. We went 3-0 down early, but fought back to win. The goal that brought us level was also Pinamonti's 1000th goal under my management. An important goal from many perspectives!

  • Italy won the Confederations Cup, beating England 3-1 in the Final (two goals from Pinamonti).

Assists

Who is providing all the club goals?

pinamonti-season12-37.jpg.65a7f2ef1b18b742605d59cd9cd6788e.jpg

As usual, the assists were shared around, but as mentioned above, this year we saw an incredible goal to assist ratio. Sacristan, Havertz, D'Amico historically have a ratio of about 1:1, but all of them provided significantly more than they scored this year. A real team effort. 👏

Injuries

A few knocks and bruises as always, but no real injuries this year.

Development

This is what Pinamonti looks like now (no change - probably won't be able to say that much longer):

Goals - Highlights

Pinamonti had one 5 goal effort and a massive seven 4 goal efforts:

In related news, Switzerland is considering breaking it's neutrality and declaring war on Pinamonti after he single-handedly humiliated them by scoring 10 goals in 3 games this season. As well as the 4 goals above, he got two hat-tricks:

Goals - Club

He scored 98 goals in 53 games:

pinamonti-season12-43.jpg.b81a425e694dc6f92ad2d1136b41fc9e.jpg

As mentioned above, his ratio was great this year and likely due to his teammates being less selfish.

Goals - ITN

Pinamonti had 146 international goals at the start of the year:

pinamonti-season11-44.jpg.50182b284576337e34c4260c146204ae.jpg

And he finished with 181, meaning he'd scored 35 goals in 15 games.

pinamonti-season12-52.jpg.e5323436f6b99e762ca670d463fc832f.jpg

This is one more goal than his best ITN season. Quite a few games against weaker opposition this year.

1000 goals baby! Woot!

The Future

Our goal now turns to 1.5K. I fell 7 goals short of that target in 2017, thanks to Colidio's shock retirement. Pinamonti is 68 goals ahead of Colidio at the same age (30), so fingers crossed... he might just make it!

Ideally we want another couple of 100+ seasons to get us close enough to have a reasonable chance. Another season like this one is surely unlikely, so we'll set our target next year back to 100. Will we get it? Tune in next time to find out!

Wow what a season!

Congratulations on the 1k and I hope that Pinamonti can make up for Colidio's just missing out earlier in the year and get that 1.5k.

Thanks mate. I reckon he'll probably finish with either 1494 goals or 1499 goals. One better than Colidio or one short. Can't work out which one would hurt more... 🙂

Yeah, gotta admit it's a *slight* advantage... 😄

Depends on the year of course, but when you get years like this with a bunch of easier games, it makes it so much easier. I mean 35 extra goals this season!

Not sure how many will be in this calendar year, but two of 4 goal ITN hauls (including the one against Wales, sorry buddy!) were in the current calendar year, so I'm guessing it will be a decent amount. But who knows, could get an injury or lose form, so we'll wait and see what happens.

Update - Season 12/13 - Calendar Year

Pinamonti's calendar year record (so far) is 115 goals in Season 11/12. Can he beat it this time around?

Club Goals

Pinamonti starts the year with 52 club goals:

pinamonti-season11a-04.jpg.89443ede7048770489e245b90b574b69.jpg

Then gets another 46 in the first half of the year (98-52), followed by 24 in the second half of the year:

pinamonti-season13-10.jpg.abc1119ef0f13947dd2f2622eac3ed5d.jpg

Making it a total of 70 club goals.

ITN Goals

He starts with 162 goals:

pinamonti-season11a-03.jpg.d9cf625e7e1df8c848d4058072f4c54e.jpg

And finishes the year with 193 goals:

pinamonti-season13-09.jpg.fe7873accb216e9138de86a24e1c5bc3.jpg

Making it a total of 31 ITN goals this year.

Total For The Calendar Year

Club Goals  70
ITN Goals  31
TOTAL: 101

Wait just a minute... Last season he broke all my records with 133 goals. The first half of the calendar year was guaranteed to be massive - so how on earth did he fall away in the second half to only get 101 goals?

For an answer to that, you'll be wanting to check out the Injury section of next season's update. Coming soon to a Vibe near you!

Yeah, never fun. Luckily it was only a month, but it really knocked the stuffing out of him this time. His scoring rate slowed right down after that. Luckily he picked up in the second half of the season and fought his way back to a typical season...

Update - Season 13

Pinamonti has passed 1K and we've finally settled into the routine of winning everything. All we really want is to continue that. 100 goals this year will be just fine thanks!

Leaving us were:

  • Barbero: World class. Maybe David Silva's regen? A good backup for a number of years, but couldn't force his way into the starting lineup, so when an offer came in we took it.

  • Cools: An excellent DLP, but on the selfish side and we had better options available.

  • Zuber: We only bought him in last year to challenge for the DLP position, but he wasn't quite good enough.

  • The rest of the departures are mostly youth team graduates that I'd been hoarding in the Reserves. Many of them were in their 20s and weren't going to make it. Time to face up to that.

Coming in were a bunch of young hopefuls that my scouts thought were decent. Time will tell how many of these make it.

Also, not a transfer, but worth noting that this happened in the off-season to our Messi regen (who has been a great assist provider). Ouch!

Competitions

Here's how we did in the various competitions this seasons (spoiler - we didn't win them all this time!):

  • Won the Community Shield, beating Man City 2-0 (both goals to Pinamonti).

  • Won the European Super Cup, beating Fiorentina 4-0 (hat-trick to Pinamonti).

  • Won the Club World Championship, beating Racing Club 3-0 in the final (one goal from Pinamonti).

  • Won the League Cup, beating Crystal Palace 1-0 in the final (the goal coming from Pinamonti).

  • Got dumped out of the FA Cup in the Semi Final by Stoke(!), who thrashed us 4-1 (the goal coming from Pinamonti). Whut?

  • Won the Premier League comfortably again, but still only 117 goals, which is about our max.

  • Won the Champions League, thrashing Barcelona 6-0 in the final (with five goals from Pinamonti).

  • Italy won the World Cup, beating England 3-0 in the final (with one goal from Pinamonti). England's starting line up had one current Newcastle player (Salah's regen who they pinched from Egypt!) and seven(!) Newcastle rejects (Sancho, Timmy Abraham, Ronaldo Viera, Gribbin, Joe Cole's regen, John Terry's regen and one of the youth players we let go at the start of the year)...

Assists

Who is providing all the club assists?

pinamonti-season13-22.jpg.772bea1255b863434e26d7418d8e2ceb.jpg

Something strange happened this year. For the first time ever we had a single player break the 40 mark. And it was Havertz who did it, at the ripe old age of 30, after years of under-achieving compared to the various alternative career Havertz's out there. He finally clicked, playing as BBM on the left side of the central midfield.

After him, the usual suspects all chipped in, but it dropped away fast because Havertz hogged so many.

Injuries

In November Pinamonti picked up a 'one month' injury (but it was 6 full weeks before he returned to full training):

pinamonti-season13-06.jpg.f8efedf758e25da1ef6a86d6ef3ae61d.jpg

He also had a ghost injury in the World Cup:

Development

This is what Pinamonti looks like now:

pinamonti-season13-24.jpg.87d50fc9cecd55e2a9df1f0efd7f0b93.jpg

The fist signs of degradation are here, with his Pace down 1 point and Stamina down 2 points. We're at the top of a one way (down) rollercoaster...

Goals - Highlights

Pinamonti had one 5 goal effort (in the Champions League Final no less!) and three 4 goal efforts:

pinamonti-season12-52.jpg.426d93a0344d7b27d280c3f21ab17978.jpg

And he finished with 203, meaning he'd scored 22 goals in 13 games.

Not bad.

Progress

31 years old (EOY) Season Total
Club Goals  78  941
ITN Goals  22  170
Totals 100 1111

The Future

Pinamonti has just turned 31 and already his attributes have started to decline, even if only slightly. That's just going to get worse.

If he can hold on and rack up another 100 goals next season, then I think he will have enough to get over the 1.5K line by the end of this. If he falls much short of that, then it's going to get ugly.

Thanks mate. Yeah, hoping he stays in shape long enough for me to knock this over in 4 or 5 more seasons. Don't want it to go all the way to 22 seasons or something like I've had in the past, or I'll miss 2019.
