Help How to concede less goals

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, first time posting here!

I got the game a few months back and after a couple short saves I settled with a career on where I am currently on the year 2034.

My problem has never been about losing or not being able to win games, because I got 10 Champions wins, 1 Euro Cup, 1 World Championship and multiple League and Cup wins on the 2 clubs I managed (Leixões and R. Madrid) throughout my career. So I'd say it's a very successfull career.

My problem is conceding goals. And there's lots of them with multiple tactics and various players that went by my 11's. My current goalkeeper even has all 20's on the GK stats. My current team on R. Madrid is full of regen beasts. And I still concede goals so easily. Even now I just won 4-3 against Eibar. And then there's the 4-1's, 5-3's, 7-2's, etc.

Point is, it's like I can't keep my opponents from scoring in any game. Right now sitting at 1060 matches, 901 wins, 98 draws and 61 defeats. 3219 scored and 1153 conceded. That's above 1 p/ match. I don't even think I ever had a best league defense...

What's the secret here? How do you stop them from scoring while having the best possible players you can imagine?

Check your team report if your team is lacking in determination. Might be disadvantage though.

Or rather upload your tactics let me see.

I think it all depends on how you're structuring your defence and your defensive instructions, and seeing those would definitely allow a lot more people to help.

What mentality arenyou playing on? Does this go hand in hand with instructions? It could just be a case of over complicating the defenders

That's a great record and although conceding goals is annoying you are scoring far more than conceding and winning a huge % of your games so is it a major problem?

Of course it is as we all want to be better don't we:)

A few things I look for are

  • Make sure you have CB's with high pace if you play very attacking football, with high pressing so they can get back quickly when you lose the ball.
  • Make sure your CB's and any defensive mids like DLP or BWM have good positioning and teamwork so they get in the right place for interceptions and they work hard for the team.
  • Decisions is also important in any player but especially is defensive players imo so that they know when to pass and when to just clear it.

As the other lads said it would be good to see your tactics to see if anything stands out as a problem but all in all it sounds like you are doing great and maybe just a couple of tweaks are needed.

Welcome to Vibe

Hey guys. Thanks for the repplies. I'm sending the pics of my current tactic as well as pics of my defenders and my 2 midfielders.

I have had many taticas but this one was the one I used the most. I tried having a defensive midfielder but the only thing that changed was scoring less goals.

Despite this tactic, sometimes when I am winning I take out my striker for a defensive midfielder and narrow down my game, but that doesn't stop them from scoring.

Just a few of my thoughts.

BWM can leave at lot of gaps in midfield as they chase after the ball a lot so you could try using a DLP instead as they will sit a little deeper and don't chase the ball as often. You could also try changing the AP to an CM so that he stays in the centre of the pitch more often instead of pushing further forward.

Perhaps change the width to normal so you have less space between players and also bring the tempo down to normal so the players are less likely to rush and give the ball away leading to counter attacks.

Agree with everything, but I’d also change one of the IF’s (if not both) to a winger as there’s just no width in the side. Plus with the defenders you’ve got i would consider switching on the offside trap

I expect most opposition will play defensively against you?  A quick tempo is probably not so effective against a defensive approach.

Expressive gives players a lot of freedom which can generate chances but also cause you to lose defensive shape.

Potentially 5 players in their box - CF, 2xIF, Ap, T. That's pretty crowded - a good place for you to lose possession with half of your outfield players commited high up the pitch. If only BWM is left, it would probably be a bit like piggy in the middle.

If you want to keep the heavy emphasis on attack, you could try closing down all over and play a high line and/ or offside trap. I reckon that would save some goals.

(Looked at the other advice offered and agree with that as well)
