Just out of interest, has anyone reading this done much of a career with Lautaro Martinez or Romero? If so, how’d you get on and what role did you play them? Martinez has developed lovely on the year I have had him, but Romero not so.

Thanks chap. One of my Barca choices is obvious (the Uruguayan), one is mentioned in this thread, and the Brazilian is a bit out there but should be fun. I actually find that the team around the front three is just as important, if not more.

Season 3 at Real Madrid is now done, getting the boring stuff (transfers)...

VVD wasn’t in my first team anymore, so I let him go for a good offer. The others were squad players that I replaced with improved squad players.

...out of the way, these are the final attributes for the lads after three seasons:

Pretty solid, especially for the roles in which I played them. 

Our overall trophy cabinet was decent enough, but not 100%.

On to the main target though: those goals and assists for the main three.

Mousssssa got 125 goals and 78 assists.

Berti’s brother was an utter joy and got 116 goals and 73 assists. 

Andre was an absolute giant on the pitch and may form part of a future career for me. 150 goals and 84 assists. 

Overall we got:

• 390 goals against the 269 needed;
• 235 assists against the 102 needed

Obviously smashed it for Madrid. Barcelona to follow soon once myself and @Taff have ploughed through a few more seasons of our H2H.

Yeah, agree with Foxy. Go off piste as it gives lesser known players a chance to shine. Hell I’ve only used Vokes in a Wales save this year so I’ve never seen him develop like he did for you

As I said before, my H2H with Taff is now priority, so this’ll happen in between updates. But as we are up to date on that, I thought I’d spend some time today setting up my Barca save and upload a mini-update.

Barcelona - Season 1

At Barca it is the same kinda challenge, replacing Messi, Suarez, and Neymar (who has already left, so you have to sell/demote Dembele) and replace them with strikers from Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil. 

These three players then have to beat 364 goals and 171 assists over three seasons. A lot more difficult!

Keeping to my promise, I’ve avoided Cavani, Jesus, Dybala, etc, and gone a bit more random. 

Luan comes in as my Brazilian. I used him in my Bad Boys of Brazil DT and he is a player that always ends up being used as a backup in my careers. Today I want him to be the bride rather than the bridesmaid.

My Argentinian is...

...who I used as my first choice sub in my Madrid save. His attributes improved immensely so I thought I’d give him a go. 

My Uruguayan is this powerhouse:

He will be my new Sam Vokes and no doubt become the object of my affections. His aggression was a lot higher when I signed him so I hope that returns. Maybe my affections have softened him a bit.

I don’t know if I’ve gambled too much with player choice, but the choices have allowed me to spend my money elsewhere and I think a lot of any challenge actually depends moreso on the team you put around your main men than the main men themselves.

Not terrible, but leaves me a lot to do in seasons 2 and 3. I’ll slam a post down later tonight.

So, Season 1 at Barcelona. 364 goals and 171 assists to beat, which is more than the Madrid leg of this challenge. I also really don’t like the Barcelona squad. It doesn’t fit my tactic, nor is it all that good once you shift/demote Messi, Suarez, and Dembele.

I did a lot of transfers, signing Martinez, Gomez, and Luan, whose attributes I posted a few posts up. 

Vokes came too, because I love him and want him as backup.

Loads went, including Dembele. I couldn’t shift Messi or Suarez due to wages so had to demote them.

Goretzka also joined on a free at the end of the season after I did the screenshot.

It was a strange season. We lost more than I expected, including two finals.

Which meant we don’t get the CWC next season, which saddens me massively.

Anyhow, on to the boys:

We got 105 goals of the 365 needed to beat the target. I wanted 120 plus to start with, so I’m already behind. We have 77 of the 172 assists needed to beat that target, so that’s on track.

I actually think I’ve learnt a lot in my Barca save, so I’m hopeful next year will be 130 plus as it’ll certainly need to be, but I’m going to slow burn a TT after this too, so any lessons learnt will be good for that.

Great start mate, nothing disappointing about it!

On to Season 2 where I was hoping for 130 goals. 

Firstly, on to transfers. Pogba is Pogba, and I wanted to strengthen the team to win games. Diawara joined to be our deep lying playmaker, with Goretzka joining on a free. I wanted Isak as an emergency bench player. 

Outgoing were squad players and youthies. Pique also left after the screenshots.

Overall, we won everything.

But drew seven in the league, whilst also losing one. Most importantly this gives me the CWC goalfests next year.

But, more importantly, how many more goals did the main three get?

Not 130, that’s for sure.

We got 119 goals, which brings us to 134 of the 365 goals needed to beat the 364 total total.

We got 67 more assists. 144 of 172 assists needed. Beating the assists will be no problem.

So we need 141 goals in season 3 to complete stage 2. Considering they have only had 119 goals max so far I don’t hold much hope, but I’ve been testing a tactic that I’m going to use for season 3 which is pretty ‘out there’, but it also depends on the quality of the strikers and I went off piste to make this more fun! Could go either way! Wish me luck!

Thanks mate! If anything, it’s helped me figure out a few TT tactics, as that’s my next career. It’s been fun though - much more enjoyable using lesser names.

Season 3 and we need 141 goals to beat the goals total of 365. 

In terms of transfers, we kept things fairly basic. 

Unwanted players left. Wanted players joined.

Wingers. Joined to give me greater tactical flexibility.

We had a fairly successful season apart from a bizarre Champs League exit against Spurs.

But, most importantly, could we get the 141 goals needed to beat the 364 goal total?

Sadly not.

We got 124 in an injury challenged season. MartInez kept getting niggles and played half the games of the others.

But I’m not a reloading arse, so I took it like a man. 

We got 348 goals in total against MSN’s 364. I have stumbled across a tactic that worked well when everyone was available and another tactic to use when others were missing. 

We got 198 assists against MSN’s 171,  so we beat that.

Whether we’d have beaten the MSN goals target with better players, who knows? Maybe I’ll have another go another time with my new tactic right from the start, but I would still use the more interesting players.

Anyhow, I’ve now got the appetite for a Triple Threat career, which will be fun.

124 is a great total even if it wasnt quite enough for what you needed🙁 

Really enjoyed this career and it was a great effort by you. I love the fact you used some less well known players as well to attempt this because it makes a career much more interesting.
