So we have had a slight tweak of order this round, which means I will be stepping in ahead of @Woody. 

Here is a quick update: I searched around for someone unusual - I promise - but work permits seemed to stop any deal. So, recalling that the player only needs any shade of green, I went for this man:

The man my missus calls Dilly Dally signed for us from Spurs. Dark green on the wings. Decent aerial and good shooting. Sound physicals too. We all know he is good, but then so was Asensio in my last attempt and he did worse than a few others!

We started with the Supertaca, where we destroyed our opposition.

Dele got a hat-trick!

Then the next game was the Euro Super Cup which we qualified for after @Foxy won the Champs Cup last season. A crazy game meant the Cup came home with us.

Season 8 full update. So as I mentioned a few posts ago I went with Dele and grabbed the Supertaca and Euro Super Cup, but could we grab the remaining titles?

Getting the boring stuff out of the way, I managed to flog @Foxy‘s Mikel. I also sold Harit who I got on a free last time around.

Dele joined, along with a bunch of youth investments. Some of the boys are nearing thirty so we need the players or the cash.

In terms of Dele himself the first port of call was to at least get 30 goals to allow us another round in this challenge. Our first few months got us there. He had some spectacular scoring turnouts in games.

30 goals in 12 games. Best scoring I have ever had.

Incredible average rating too to date. 

Our next final was the World Club Championship, which we sewed up in typical fashion.

Kai stole the show in this one. Following this, our next final was the League Cup.

Keita ‘Nab’bed a few in this. Ha!

Dele was scoring amazingly and I thought I was on for 100, then this happened:

Utterly gutted. He missed about five or six games. Grrr! 

Once back to fitness he carried on his excellent scoring and led us to an early title.

Now, I’ve never had a 100 goal season, so pretty much pooped myself when we got to this position with five games (potentially six if we make the Champs Cup final).

With a cracking run of form and goals since his return from injury. 

Yep, we needed ten goals!

In our next game this happened:

 

A Dele hatrick.

And then we had Juve at home in the second leg of our CC semi.

Six goals that led us to the CC Final!

99 goals with four games to go! One needed for the hundred. 

Boavista away was next. 3-1, with a hatrick from...

....Kai Havertz!

Estorial next. Dele has a goal disallowed in a 3-1 win. Wtf?

Estoril up next again, but in the Cup final. Five goals scored. Dele got...

...none. But it’s ok - the mighty Stark got two. 😠

So this left me stupidly stressed for what is essentially a challenge on a video game. One game for just one goal against Man City in the Champs Cup final.

Thank goodness. I literally punched the air. 102 goals for the season!!! 

His final attributes and stats:

He managed to retrain as a striker and was only ten goals off an average of two goals a game. His average rating was 8.92 which was nuts.

The team as a whole scored loads. 158 in the league - almost five a game. We did lose two which seems to happen with this tactic.

Kai was the next highest scorer with 39. Assists were fairly even, although Pavon was the highest with 45.

So that was a cracking season, but it’s all to do with the squad me, @Foxy and @Woody put together. Whilst I hit 100 with Dele, I actually think their achievements with the lesser players is much better. That ain’t me being modest - that’s me being honest.

SEASON 9

Due to a family bereavement, Rob took my turn for season 8 and totally smashed the bar!!

An amazing season i'm sure you'll all agree. So who did i choose to challenge Rob's huge total....

Well i went for the 1st generated convert of our challenge.

Harrison Kennedy was a player known to Rob as he had tried to sign him for his turn but wasnt able to obtain a work permit. 

Took 2 tries for me to get him but i think thats because he had played more games.(not sure).

TRANSFERS.

Could only get £50m for Alli as his wages were so high no one could afford him.

Isak is a future freebie who although may not get used much could bring in a tidy profit.

Ziv & Torreira wouldnt sign new deals and will leave on frees.

COMPETITIONS.

LEAGUE:

Disappointed with the amount of draws this year but it was a solid season.

SUPERTACA:

A closer game than the score suggests here.

TACA DE PORTUGAL:

A tough game inwhich we came through thanks to Kennedy.

LEAGUE CUP:

We were cruising in the game but some shit defending cost us 2 late goals taking the game to pens. Thank god we scored all 5!

EUROPEAN SUPER CUP:

An absolute thumping over Liverpool. 😆

CLUB WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS:

A easy win that should of yielded more goals.

CHAMPIONS CUP:

What a game this was....2 up at half time and City score twice in 3 mins to pull level. Then eventually going into extra time but we score the winner 2 mins from time.

So after a clean sweep on the trophy front lets get into why we are all here.

Given that we only need 30 goals from our converted winger the pressure is self imposed on us all and with Rob hitting the magic number i wanted to atleast beat my 92.

Having spent all season retraining as a striker Harrison didnt achieve a green and stayed yellow the entire time.

How did he do?

Unfortunately he managed just 82! Im slightly gutted but i have gone quite off piste with my player choices to be fair.

Maybe next time i will get that little bit closer to my fellow challengers.

We are a matter of a couple of seasons away from reaching out goal.

The save now passes back over to @Foxy and i wish him good luck.

Season 10

Welcome to season 10 and what is all likelihood my final time with the save as we fast approach the 1k mark, we need 211 goals in the next 3 seasons and we will be done and with us averaging about 90 goals a season that isn’t going to be a big problem although anything can happen in FMM.

With the squad pretty much complete and despite Zivkovic and Torreira leaving I knew I could spend the vast majority of my transfer budget on my converted winger as I didn’t need many other players.

I went for a player I had looked at on my previous 2 times with the save and that was German winger Leroy Sane.

 

Looks good doesn’t he? I usually would splurge £100m on a 30 year old but it was my final time with the save and he is a player I have really wanted to use in this save. The first thing to do was set him on retraining as a striker so that hopefully like my other lads he would be dark green by about October.

Whether Leroy is just a prick or the fact he is getting older and like us all more reluctant to change I don’t know but I was extremely pissed off the day after I bought him he announced this.

What a dick!!!

I did consider if I could bring someone else in but I had no money left and no one I wanted to sell so I went with it. I did try a couple of times again but Leroy was having none of it. Also he is a great player so I hoped his ability would mean he could still bang in plenty of goals even without good knowledge of the position but I didn’t have high hopes of a ton.

He hit the 30 goal mark in 15 games which matched Mikel in season 7 as my quickest player to the minimum 30 goal mark. This also means he was scoring at 2 goals a game and was on course for over 100 goals in the season so my hopes increased on that score.

My one worry with Leroy was his 13 staminia and whether he would get tired quickily as the season went on but that wasn’t really the case and he missed only 5 games all season with 3 coming after a little injury that only kept him out for 10 days but that was the only injury he had.

After 41 appearances in the season Leroy had 68 goals to his name and was scoring at a rate of 1.65 goals per game so his rate had dropped from 2 a game which was to be expected but he was still on course to get 100 goals for the season if he could play 61 games in the season and keep up that goal rate. He missed a game but then played in every one of the final 19 games of the season meaning he played 60 games in total so he would need 1.66 goals per game on average to hit that 100 mark.

This is his form for those final 19 games.

At first glance it looks like there is a decent number of goals there but closer inspection will show 5 games with no goals and a few games with just the one goal.

It breaks down like this.

 He scored 22 goals in those 19 games which works out as a rate of 1.15 goals a game and well below the required rate needed to get that 100 goal season.

A final total of 90 goals looks ok and is the same as Pjaca managed for me and 1 less then Mikel but it’s a massive disappointment for me as I had high hopes for Leroy and it feels like if he had just made the effort to retrain he would have probably given him the edge to get those final 10 goals across the season and he would have got to that magic mark.

That leaves @Woody and @Rob2017 with 121 goals to get which judging by the awesome job they have done so far in this save shouldn’t be a problem for them.

Career Conclusion

As this will be my final time with the save I thought I would just put down my thoughts on how I did.

I think season 1 can be discounted really as I had to use a player that was already at the club and with a squad that wasn’t anywhere near the standard I have had to utilise in my subsequent seasons. I would have loved to have score more than 62 goals with Cervi but it got the ball rolling on the save and was a decent return in the circumstances.

After that I have had 3 seasons and I think it is fair to say I have been Mr consistent as we have seen Pjaca score 90, Mikel 91 and then Leroy got 90 this year all great totals to it still leaves me with a feeling of what could have been especially with Leroy this season but also Mikel in season 7.

In terms of competitions entered I only lost one cup tie in the 4 seasons and that was in the FA Cup in season 1 and won the league all 4 seasons as is to be expected with Benfica.
