Season 1

 

Its time to get this Collab challenge started and as I got into the CC through the back door it was easier for me to start this save off. So just a reminder that is season 1 I need to use a winger that was already at the club and I need to score at least 30 goals with him other wise I will look a right tit and Woody and Rob won’t speak to me again.

The Lad

The main reason we choose Benfica alongside the fact they are a big fish in a small pond was to make season 1 easier as they have an abundance of attacking midfield talent.

I narrowed my choice down to either Rafa

In the end it was a no brainer as Cervi has  better shooting and as it turned out he developed very well by the end of the season.

Transfers

I had about £40 million in the bank to start with and then boosted that with a few sales meaning I was able to spend £86m in the end. The squad didn’t feel like it had much balance between attackers and defenders with more emphasis on attack, but I didn’t want to buy a lot of players that were Ok but wouldn’t be much use next season so I went for a couple of wonderkids in the shape of Meret, Stark and Pavon who I hope will serve Woody and Rob well and me if they are still around by season 4. I did go short term else were though as I brought in Nedum Onuoha and David Abraham as a back-up defenders mainly due to their physical attributes and I brought in 3 CM’s on loan as we were weak in that part of the pitch. The signing I was most excited by was Mario Lemina who came in to be a BBM and as I have never used him before I was hoping for good things from him.

Competitions

Domestic

With the squad I had assembled the league was never likely to prove much problem but we did lose once and drew 5 times as we lifted the title. Portugal has 2 cups and we won the League Cup beating Porto in the final but we lost in the FA cup final which prevented us winning a domestic quadruple if you count the Super Cup as well

Europe

In the Champions League we were drawn in a tough group alongside Chelsea, Juventus and whipping boys FC Viitorul. It wouldn’t have been a disaster to finish third here and go into the Europa League as we would have stood a good chance of winning that. We lost our first game 1-0 to Chelsea but from then on we were unstoppable as we won our next 5 games and topped the group.

I wasn’t expecting much success in the knockout stages as our squad is decent but it certainly has some weak links.

 We took on PSG in the 1st knockout round and a dominant 4-2 win at there place put us in a good position which we finished off at home with a 2-2 draw.

In the quarter finals we drew Liverpool and went to Anfield first. A last minute goal by Mane meant we lost 2-1 but the away goal could come in handy. As it was we never needed it as we blew the scousers away in the Estadio da Luz coming out with a 5-0 win.

That got us to the Semi’s and a game against a team I often struggle against in the shape of Man Utd with the away leg first again. Just the same as the Liverpool game we lost away and again to a late goal and this time no away goal. In the 2nd leg we played very well but just couldn’t find that break through until Dani Ceballos found the net 9 minutes from time. The game finally went to penalties and misses from Young, Pogba and Lindelof meant that we made the final with a 3-2 shootout win!

We had to play Chelsea again in the final having lost 1 and won 1 against them in the group stage. This time the game was effectively over after 17 minutes after a brace from Lemina and 1 from Cervi gave us a 3-0 win and meant we won the Champions League in the first season.

That means the only trophy I missed out on was the FA Cup this season.

The Challenge

The team performed fairly well but that would mean nothing if Cervi couldn’t get 30 or more goals and the challenge ended at the first hurdle. Ideally we want a lot more than 30 as well because we are aiming for a 1k from our players and in as few seasons as possible.

Cervi made a decent start with 22 goals in his first 20 games, so decent but not outstanding and meaning by the half way point he should have the 30 goals done.

The risk with this challenge is that a major injury could always destroy a season and the challenge as a whole so I was a bit worried when I read that Cervi was injured but luckily it was only 2 weeks. At the same time I have found players seasons really slowed down by a little injury so I would rather no time out at all.

Luckily he was done by this point and once he came back it was a case of trying to get as many goals as he could towards the 1k.

In the end he finished the season with a respectable if not ground breaking 62 goals but it was more then enough to keep the save going. The bonus now season 1 is out the way is that we all get to pick the player we want to use that season and with the squad improving as well hopefully these totals are going to keep getting better each year.

That brings my first update to a close. The Champions League win was unexpected in season 1 and it made up for that FA cup final loss. Most importantly though I got well past 30 goals so the challenge keeps going and with a fairly decent total for the challenge as well.

The save now passes on to Woody and he will post the next update once he is done in a few days. Who do you guys think will be his converted winger of choice and how will he get on?

Well done! This challenge sounds great and you have done really well, especially that champions league run in your first season, looking forward to seeing what @Woody can do in the second season.

Yeah the CL was a bit of a surprise tbh and I was pleased with how Cervi did. Hopefully now we have a choice on players we will start getting well beyond what I managed this season.

Hello everyone and welcome to the 2 season of our 3some challenge.
With @Foxy having a really solid start the pressure was on to at least match what the great man achieved in his 1st season.
 
I say pressure but as our season target is just 30 goals the pressure was put on by my self.
 
My choices
 
I found picking my converted winger of choice a little difficult, not because i couldn't find the right one but because i couldn't make my mind up who to use.

After a short converse with my fellow challengers i eventually settled on my favourite choice...

Transfers.

I started preseason with a little over £94m to splash out on new recruits.

Foxy had signed a few crackers but as we are using our own tactics the squad lacked in a few areas that i needed. So after brief search i began negotiations to sign the lads i needed.

I required my convertible winger, a left back, a right back and a defensive minded midfielder.

Also as Foxy was astute during the January term he managed to snap up Leon Goretzka on a free...BONUS!!

The squad was now ready for my attempt. Our league season was almost perfect winning 32 of the 34 games on offer, drawing 1 and losing the other. We won 2 out of the 3 domestic cup competitions, the Supertaca & Taca de Portugal but lost in the semi's of the League Cup.

Our European adventure took us into the Champions Cup thanks to Foxy's title win the previous year.

We were blessed with a reasonably easy group with Monaco, Sparta Prague and Villarreal.

We made quite easy work of the group finishing top undefeated.

The 1st round of knockouts had us matched up against CSKA Moscow. A 1st leg 1-2 away win set us up nicely for the home leg return which we won 4-0.

The Quarter Final had us pitched against a good Inter Milan side with the 1st leg away from home again. A 2-2 draw made for a tricky home tie, fortunately we didn't fold and went on to secure a 2-0 victory.

The Semi Final draw matched us up against giants Juventus at home for the 1st leg. A goalless draw wasn't the greatest result in the world but it was all to play for in the return leg. Luckily for us Juventus had an off day and we despatched them 0-3 to progress to the final.

The final was against Spurs. Despite spurs having the best of the chances we managed to grab 2 goals to win 0-2.

With Foxy winning the Champions Cup last season we had the chance to play in the European Super Cup against Arsenal.

This one didn't turn out to be our day as a resilient Gunners snatched the win in extra time.

The World Club Championship was also won As we beat Racing Club in the final 1-3.

                                                                                     MY MAIN MAN.

 

As you already know by now the target for the continuation of the challenge is 30 goals but we want that 1k so Burke needs to step up and take the reigns from Cervi.

A solid start saw Burke smash 48 goals in 28 games which meant we could carry on for Rob's turn.

Luckily Like Cervi, Burke never missed any games through injury and only the odd one through tiredness

The rest of the season continued how Burke had started it and the goals kept coming and by the end of the season he had ammast a huge 92 goals in 59 games!! I was gobsmacked by how well he performed and never dropped or had a lull at any time.

Well that's me done, and a little sad that Burke will have to leave the club under our rules but it was an amazing season and now the mantle is passed on to @Rob2017 and his chosen winger which i can't wait to see how he does.

😆 nah leaving that total for you mate.

I will from now on stop saying it. 😂

I have only ever had one person ask and that was what tactic i used for my Sam Hardy 1kc.
