Career Nucleus brings out the Slab-Heads [COMPLETED]

Hello Vibe, I wanted a change of pace from my Power of Five career so I’ve decided to take on this little @Foxy creation that has everyone jumping on the bandwagon, myself included 😝

I’ll be posting a month by month update just to drag it out a little bit. So first off I’ll briefly talk through the tactic I’ll be using and the transfers I made.

Tactic:

Nothing special at all about this one, similar to my Mbappé/Martial Double Trouble career from earlier on in the year, only difference being the striker roles. Two target men I’ve never used before so I’m not sure how it’ll pan out to be honest, I just envision both of them knocking the ball on to each other endlessly until the end of time...

Transfers

Outgoing:

Didn’t actively try and sell Mahrez but £54 million was money I could invest in someone with a bit more teamwork and was a natural left winger. The others I had no use for so off they went. I’ve not really put much effort into my transfers to be honest because I’m actually happy with the squad I have to play this formation.

Incoming:

Acuña will hopefully become that left winger I wanted so much, for £40m he better be! Mayada is a solid right wingback that comes much cheaper than that usually but I got caught in a bidding war for him. Bruma and Isimati are two shiny new CB’s that’ll slot right in as my starting pair and of course Laurence Maguire for £70k should prove to be the bargain of the season.

August:

So pre-season is out the way, the squad has settled nicely, everyone is under the influence of my super intensive training regime and the Maguire brothers are buzzing at the prospect of leading the line for the former Premier League Champions.

First up at the King Power stadium on opening day was the visit of Bournemouth and expectations were high for our first match, and so it should be as Harry Maguire brushes off the disappointment of a disallowed goal to nod one in the top pocket to score the only goal of the game as we win 1-0.

Next was a trip to sunny Brighton, and we wasted no time in taking the lead as Get in the Bong scores a world class own goal to give us the lead. It didn’t last long however as Ham-head gives the Seagulls a precious equaliser. Then it was the turn of Laurence of Arabiashire to score on 20 minutes and give us a nice 5 points in this challenge. Chilwell seals the win before half time as we maintain our 100% record.

A trip to Preston in the Cup was next, I decided to field my “weaker” side for this as I was confident we’d progress against the Championship side. The plan backfired as despite a Harry Maguire goal we succumb to the lottery of the shootout.

After losing to Preston, we wanted blood in our final game of August against Swansea. Chants of “You Jack Bastards” rang around the Stadium for the entire match, which was delightful to hear might I add. Anyway, what a game for Spongebob Square Head and his brother Pyramid Head, a Laurence penalty and a brace from Harry gives us a 3-0 victory, Laurence managed to miss an earlier penalty and was wrongly flagged for offside which could have been a lovely hatrick for the £70k man.

September

Into September we go then, and after a 100% start to the season I was hoping to continue that form this month. With only three fixtures to play the team should hopefully have ample time to rest and keep themselves fit for the long season ahead.

Gameweek 4: Stoke City (A)

Always a tough place to go is Stoke, and this tie looked like it was heading for a 2-2 draw after Harry Maguire netted a brace. Vicente Iborra had other ideas however and popped up with an injury time winner to give us three vital points in what I’m calling a title race!

ADDEFE3B-72BC-428B-A3E0-F0611475F1E0.thumb.png.4d6bcf72393bdd35d655423c0b008763.png

Gameweek 5: Southampton (A)

Down to the south coast now, where we would try to make it five wins from five in the league. It wasn’t to be however as we fail to convert our chances and Charlie Austin seals a 1-0 victory for the Saints.

292CC69D-F57D-4357-AE73-CDFA38F1A609.thumb.png.480b6776ed093d75da2242e3c2017c0e.png

Gameweek 6: Liverpool (H)

Our final match of September saw us play host to Liverpool and going into this match they were overwhelming favourites. Harry Maguire had other ideas though, and produces a marvellous hatrick alongside a brace from Wilfred Ndidi to give us a massive 5-0 victory against one of the league title favourites.

League Table:

That Southampton loss really hurt us, but we made up for it in fine fashion with that Liverpool thumping. Long may this run continue, and it also seems Harry Maguire has found his golden touch. Now if only his brother could do the same!

The Slab Head Brothers

Harry Maguire:

A super month for Harry, as he scores 5 goals in 3 matches to put some valuable points on the board. Attribute wise he looks really good, his shooting at an average 10 ain’t all bad considering his natural position, but other than that he’s got decent Pace, Movement, Dribbling and Aerial ability.

Laurence Maguire:

A quiet month for the younger Maguire where he failed to score a single goal so he remains on the same points unfortunately. I’m sure he’ll score a few across the season however. Here’s hoping!

Missed two in the same game though! I thought it was a disallowed goal but looking back at the screenshot it is in fact two missed penalties 😂

October

Gameweek 7: Arsenal (H)

So we start off October with a tricky home tie against the Gunners. With the form the team was in I was quietly confident heading into this match, Wilfred Ndidi’s sending off after 16 minutes did make me rethink our strategy however. Quickly enough we found ourselves in the lead through Adrien Silva but were pegged back in first half injury time after a Aubameyang equaliser. I was content with playing for the draw but big Harry had other ideas and scored a header from a corner to give us the lead, after this I parked the bus and we toughed the game out. Looking back at the stats of this match we absolutely hammered them with 10 men for 75 minutes!

Gameweek 8: Huddersfield (A)

An away trip to newly promoted Huddersfield was next on the cards, and they never really troubled us as we ran out 3-1 winners. Neither Maguire on the scoresheet though!

4709CA25-C08C-44E9-A3C5-0DA1AA167C3D.thumb.png.0275e94138dbad3a457a4cf0ab7078d7.png

Gameweek 9: Watford (A)

A trip down South was next, to Watford precisely. A cagey game ended up going out way after Harry scored in the 2nd minute. Laurence missed a penalty 5 minutes later and that was the story of the match. Three from Three in October so far!

59ABC8DB-0882-4F69-AC73-8D4C9DFE9657.thumb.png.0614d376bb41248387214a05d8c2f6ce.png

Gameweek 10: Man City (H)

We played host to the Pep Machine in our final match of October and were considerably overwhelming underdogs. We thrive on that tag apparently as we cruise to a 3-0 victory courtesy of a Harry Hatrick, Laurence missed another penalty and Acuña (who has been a terrific signing) was injured and will be out for a month! That’s Liverpool, Arsenal and City scalps we’ve claimed this season so far.

Month Review:

100% month, always a pleasure to see, especially with a team not that fancied to do so.

League Table:

We open up a huge lead in October, 7 points in fact as Chelsea and United slip up this month.

Harry Maguire:

5 goals in 4 matches this month as the big man starts finding some real form in front of goal

I once got a hat-trick of missed penalties, can't remember who though. Might have been Colidio. Terrible. At least Laurence isn't actually a striker, so sort of understandable. 🙂

Anyway, great work mate, reckon you're building to a big big score...🙂

November

Gameweek 11: Crystal Palace (H)

Not much to be said about this match, we let slip a 2-0 lead and drop points in a match we were expected to win. Palace were the better side though and deserved the point.

2DF0B3A5-C2BA-447F-B44E-592C91BD6C4C.thumb.png.2a317615d38489c3e26af1e2db653f1a.png

Gameweek 12: Tottenham (H)

We’d become somewhat of a giant killer so far this season, with Arsenal, Liverpool and City already put to the sword. Spurs were no different as we ran out comfortable 5-0 victors. I wonder if there’s anything with this tactic that does incredibly well against the big sides?

Gameweek 13: West Brom (A)

Again, another game we should have comfortably won. It took a 93rd minute equaliser from Laurence to seal a point for the side as we slip up for the second time this month!

Gameweek 14: West Ham (A)

We finish the month off with a win down south in a largely one sided affair. No Maguire goals in this game unfortunately but it’s still been a decent month overall.

We maintain a 7 point lead at the top of the pile even after our mixed results this month. A nice lead coming up to the halfway stage.

Harry Maguire:

3 goals this month for Harry, which is a poor return considering the start he made. He’s still averaging over a goal a game though which is brilliant.

Laurence Maguire:

He managed to sneak in a 93rd minute equaliser this month which gives us a nice tidy 5 points to add to the total. I’m really hoping he picks up sooner rather than later to be honest

December

Right lads, busy month ahead with seven fixtures to go through so I’ll keep it as brief as I can as to not bore you 😝

Gameweek 15: Man Utd (A)

Cagey game ended in a stalemate despite us having the most chances. A point I was happy to take

Gameweek 16: Chelsea (A)

We took our chances in this one, running out 3-1 winners with a brace from Harry

Gameweek 17: Burnley (H)

Dominant performance across the board sees us comfortably win 3-0 with another brace from Harry. Come on Laurence where you at?!

Gameweek 18: Newcastle (H)

Oh, there you are 😍 Brace from Laurence sees us smash the Magpies 6-1 with the performance of the season so far!

Gameweek 19: Everton (A)

Strange game, thought we’d got the point when Harry equalised in the 95th minute, only for Rooney to score straight from the following kick off to give the Toffees an undeserved win

Gameweek 20: Bournemouth (A)

The fixture congestion was really getting to us apparently as we had to settle for a point at Bournemouth after seemingly being the worst side too!

Gameweek 21: Brighton (H)

We make it through December with a win against Brighton, with Harry scoring what proved to be the winner.

Month Review:

A mixed bag of results but overall it was a fantastic month considering the opponents we faced and the quality of the side. 14/21 points is not to be sniffed at in a busy December month i suppose.

League Table:

Our seven point cushion is reduced to five, but we do have a game in hand so that could potentially turn to an eight point lead. Other than that the leagu looks tight, with just five points separating 2nd and 8th

January

Same as December, January is also a busy month with six fixtures lined up so I’ll try and keep this brief once again.

Gameweek 22: Swansea (A)

We start off the new year with a trip down to South Wales. The Swans put up a real scrap in this match but we ultimately prevail 3-2 with a Laurence penalty helping us along the way.

FA Cup Third Round: Man City (A)

A tough match in our opening FA Cup tie and I didn’t fancy my chances to be honest, so i fielded my second string side in the hopes of being eliminated so I could concentrate solely on League football. Eliminated we were, but we weren’t embarrassed by a long shot. Dominated the game with five clear cut chances, but we eventually lose 2-0 and we’re dumped out the FA Cup at the first hurdle!

Gameweek 23: Stoke (H)

Our first match at the King Power Stadium in 2018 proved to be a success as both Maguires get in on the goals to seal a 2-1 victory over Stoke

Gameweek 24: Southampton (H)

What a game for the Maguires! A brace from Laurence and a goal from Harry gives us a 3-1 victory over the Saints!

Gameweek 25: Liverpool (A)

The return trip to Liverpool didn’t go as planned, after our 5-1 thrashing of them at the home tie they were seemingly looking for revenge. Revenge they had, a Danny Ings hatrick put us to the sword as we lose 4-2

Gameweek 26: Arsenal (A)

Another tough game on the road, but this time we take our chances and we’re resolute in defence in a 3-0 victory over the Gunners.

Month Review:

A successful month. 4/5 league wins with us being eliminated out the cup seen as a success by mysef 😝

League Table:

Nice six points cushion at the top now, with those below me seemingly having European football return in February this could well be our year once again!

The Slab Head Brothers

Harry Maguire:

A very quiet month for Harry with only two goals this month. Could this be a dip in form?

Laurence Maguire:

Just as one is going out of form, the other is finding his! Four goals this month for Laurence. He’s been on my training for a while now and I’m gradually seeing it pay off. That’s what I’m putting it down to anyway as I’ve not changed anything tactically 😝

I can imagine it’s immensely satisfying when you win and both are the only scorers. Great going so far.

Was  satisfying 😝 I’ve finished the season like a week ago 😂

Shame about his shooting but Laurence's attributes 😍

This is shaping up for a HUGE score so I'm looking forward to seeing the how this pans out.

It’s a shame about his tackling too otherwise he’d be an ok CB. He’d make a pretty decent full back of sorts. He’s lacking in a certain key area for most positions to be honest though!
