Intro

Having seen @URz match my score from last year I thought I should give this challenge created by @veerus last year another go.

Season 1 England

First up we take a trip to London to manage Fulham. The newly promoted side spent heavily in the summer so the side should be good enough to pick up a decent points total.

Early Results

The season begins in earnest. Starting slowly with a loss to Everton and a 0-0 draw at home to Bournemouth and our first win being in the third game, away at Brighton.

We were then knocked out of the Carabao cup on pens after a bore draw with Leicester.

Things then picked up with 4 wins and 1 draw in the next 5 games. Including a.    7-0 smashing of my beloved Newcastle United a 1-1 draw away at Anfield and a wonderful 3-1 home win over Manchester City

October to the New Year

Having made a great start we wanted to continue in the same vein. A 1-0 loss to West Ham was not our proudest moment but we rebounded with a win over Chelsea then picking up 7 out of the next 12 points before losing away to Arsenal. We finish the rest of december very well, dropping only 2 points in the home game with Everton and magnificently destroying Man United 6-1

The New Year

We begin the year by beating Bournmouth in the league before then losing to them in the FA cup 3 wins in the next 4 games follow. Then a loss to Liverpool was followed by 4 draws and 1 win in the next 5 games. A tough run to be sure but I will not complain about draws with Chelsea and Man City.

Season Close

The final section of the season was our worst run with only 2 wins in the last 7 games amd only picking up 8 points from a possible 21 on offer.

League Table

All in all we had a decent year in north London with some massive results against tough teams.

69 points and a champions league place is brilliant though.

P.S. Mitrovic is a beast and whilst a little older is ripe for a 1kc attempt!

Season 2 Spain

With Fulham performing so well in England, we head north of Madrid to manage somewhat of a yo-yo club.  Valladolid are next up.

Early Games

We open with games against 2 "L"s Levante and Leganes winning both games before a long drawn out bore draw against Lugo. We then win another 3 games in a row, ensuring we got maximum points for our first 5 games

We then pick up two very creditable draws against Atletico Madrid and Valencia only to be knocked out of the cup by Oviedo.

October to January

Late october we took our first loss in a trip away to Villareal, this may have something to do with our best striker being unavailable for the game as he is a Villareal player. We bounce back with an amazing win over Barcelona followed by another loss to Girona. Some real contrast in results there. The next 6 games bring us 12 points with equal victories and draws. We then had an amazing result against Real, smashing them 4-1.

January to April

January 26th to April 6th was an amazing run for us, picking up 7 wins on our way to 25 points, the only loss coming in the Visit to the Camp Nou. The pick of the results is a 2-0 away win over Atletico Madrid.

Closing Games

The final run of games towards the end of the season was an amazing one, we won every game after the Barcelona defeat bar our final game of the season at home to Sevilla. The pick of the bunch being our 2-0 away win over Real meaning we did the double over them.

League Table

It is plain to see that this was an amazing season with Valladolid, but how many points did we actually pick up?

83 points and a second place finish makes this one hell of a season. I want to thank Enes Unal for his contribution to the cause.

No signings at all, 2nd place, the double over Real, still only a "Local" reputation....... aha.....

England - 69 points

Spain - 83 points

Thanks man. I think this year momentum is very important, wins lead to wins. A few successive losses and morale drops across the whole team making it harder to get out of the slump.

My mantra this year is "just don't lose". So if I am being outplayed, drop back and play for the draw, hence many low scores. A draw is better than a loss for more reasons than just the 1 point.

You’re almost certainly right. I just released the inner Keegan and went for fun 😛

Man, your season with Valladolid makes your season with Fulham look mediocre, which is unfair and definitely not the case. Can't wait to see which club you'll be orchestrating to new horizons next.

Season 3 France

Spain threw up some massive results. France is considered a worse league and Toulouse have arguably a better squad. Here's to a good year

Early Games

We begin the season with a tough challenge in an away visit to Marseille. A 1-1 draw is therefore a fantastic result. We follow that up with 3 wins, scoring 9 goals and finish the early fixtures by picking up 8 of the next 18 points.

October to January

We have a fantastic run through thw rest of 2018 only losing 3 times and getting a draw at Nantes. A particular bonus was the 3-0 victory over Lyon.

January to Mid March

2019 begins very well as we get all the way to march undefeated and pick up fantastic results in 3-1 away over Monaco and 4-0 away to Lyon making it a double over them.

Closing Games

The closing games ofnthe year were a mixed bag with many wins and plenty of losses but no draws. We also got all the way to the French cup final only Toulouse.... (get it).

League Table

A decent season with its us and downs, but how many points did we pick up?

76 points and the ball keeps on rolling. The tightest league finish i have ever seen with three teams on 76 points and less than 10 goals between us.

Definitely Fergie to my Keegan 😛

That Toulouse squad really is good isn’t it?

Its surprisingly decent. Sanogo was looking like he would be great until he got a long term injury early and I pulled Isak in on loan

Yeah, seem to remember Sanogo pulling a few sickies for me too.

Hope all of your final squad go on long term sick to give my score a chance 😜

Mate, you are smashing this! Those are superb results. The Spain ones were out of this world. And the tight finish in France - crazy! 🙂

I also think you are on to something with the theory about momentum... I've noticed that too. When I'm in a bad patch and I go up, then I batten down the hatches and do everything to hang on. When I'm flying and I go up, I keep going, looking for the kill!

I am glad i am not the only one who has noticed how easily a momentum shift can kill a team if its at the wrong time.

Final Season - Italy

So here we are, the final season of this challenge. Italy is not the easiest league by any stretch of the imagination.

Early Games

A tough start to the season as we play Napoli away, we give a good account of ourselves but end up losing 2-1 in the end. We then go on a 7 game winning streak scoring 20 goals before Roma bring us back down to earth in mid to late october.

October to January

We closed October with a 0-0 at home to Parma then open november with a loss to Inter and a home draw with SPAL (a team who were in Serie D 6 years ago). Things then pick up as we win 7 f our next 8 league games. We beat Juve pretty comfortably, followed by a win over Milan and avenged our early loss to Napoli too.

January to April

After the win over Napoli we seemed unable to put games away in 2019 winning only 3 between January 26th and April 13th we did at least smash Roma 3-0 but 9 draws in 12 games is a tough run.

Closing Games

After that run of draws we got back to our winning ways with 5 victories in the last 6 games closing the season with away wins over Juve and Milan. Brilliant stuff.

League Table

So a really decent looking set of results. Few losses and lots of 1 pointers in there. Lets see the league table.

We helped ourselves to second place, only 3 points behind Juventus. Brilliant stuff.

I said this last year but I'll say it again. You're a freaking wizard!

Amazing job as always. The target has been set! Will update the leaderboard tonight.

Also, @kts365, what were your signings? As I mentioned in @URz thread, I envisioned this as primarily a tactical puzzle with few signings. Last year, you didn't have any. This year, you mentioned you had a few.

Would this challenge be better or more enjoyable if there was a limit of, say, 3 new players per season?

I cant remember all the signings. I remember trying to get nasri in every league. I know that Isak helped a lot in France as I lost Sanogo to a long term injury early on. Lacina Traore in France too.

A limit of 3 signings for next year i believe will be a good limit. Enough to help but not enough to change the squad.
