Career Hitmen of PSG (Final Update - Failed)

Ok i wanted a short one season challenge that i can come to when in need of escaping the grind of my Pensioner's 1KC so i decided to give this a try:

Especially after seeing @URz attempt, i was even more tempted.

 

So, this will be in OME as i need to brush up my skills before the OME Cup next month.

So, the club chosen is:

 

Transfers Out

Some big selling there. Cavani was sold for 100 while Marquinhos for 63

 

Transfers In

Asensio and Savic were my two big money signings while the others were brought in to strengthen the squad and for their shooting abilities.

 

Final Season Squad

So, there you go. These are my hitmen. Except Areola and Buffon who are our goalies, the rest of the 20 will carry my hopes for the season.

So, please stay with me as I look to either taste the wine of victory or hug my head in shame in the pits of defeat.

August

We open the season with the Trophee des Champions against Monaco:

and we lose. This was a very poor match and a lone Jovetic goal was enough to hand Monaco the victory.

Ligue 1

So, 5 different scorers this month with most satisfying being Alves getting there on the scoresheet.

 

September

Spoiler

Asensio, Kehrer, Draxler and Neymar all get on the scoresheets while Haller who replaced Mbappe since he already reached 5 goals gets off the mark with 2 of his own. The only dud was the heavy defeat against Slavia Prague but when you are playing such an attacking formation, some mishaps are bound to happen.

 

So, at the end of September, we are in a good position with Mbappe and Savic already crossing the mark and Neymar pretty close to it. We also have 6 different scorers in addition to these three but with October holding two UCL matches, things will not be smooth. So far, we have been hit with small injuries so let's pray its stays that way.

This really is a great challenge isn’t it? The perfect opposite to the 1KC type of challange. Good luck @Kanegan that’s a very potent squad you’ve assembled fhere. (Should be good for about 145 goals 😜)

Haha, would love to get a few more than that if i can get through this challenge though. The difficult part is that when you are playing an ultra attacking formation, you can get stuck when opposition starts scoring which happened with me against Slavia Prague.

Nice start, wondering how are you going to get Meunier and Edison to score. By the way, why have you bought Edison Flores, where do you know him from? It is an interesting choice.

I used him in one of my MLS games in 18 and he was pretty good so while i was searching here for some cheap wing options with a good shooting attribute, his name popped up and i signed him. 

Getting the defenders to score will be the ultimate acid test so hopefully they do.

Update 2

October

Champions League

We start with a CL home game against Porto:

 Haller scores a brace with Draxler chipping in with another but Porto hits us back with 3 of their own so we drop points here.

And we end the month with an away game to Valencia where again we were held to a 1-1 draw. We are still searching for our 1st win and our CL campaign is in serious jeopardy now.

 

 

Ligue 1

We win one and drew two from the Ligue 1 campaign this month. The positives were Haller smashing his 5th and Maxim Choupo-Moting scoring a brace on his season debut.

 

November

Ligue 1

Further disaster strikes as we lose for the first time in our Ligue 1 campaign and we do it back to back. Moting scores another brace while our only remaining striker, Weah scores his first. Draxler completes his 5 so that's another name struck off.

 

Champions League

Moting completes his 5 and Neymar strikes a fabulous hattrick as we win both of our home CL games to bring the campaign back on track.

 

So, 4 more people joining in the 5 goals club.

 

Scorer Update:

Attack : Neymar, Moting, Mbappe,Haller, Weah

Weah the only person left to complete his 5 so this part is easy.

Midfield : Draxler, Savic, Asensio, Diaby, Kehrer, Verratti, Flores

This is a tricky one. Asensio needs only one but he has suddenly started missing. Kehrer and Verratti needs 3 each but they keep getting injured. The rest are yet to open their account.

Defense: Alves, Hubocan, Meunier, Rabiot, Akpoguma, Ambrosio, Bernat

This is the hard part. So far, only Alves has opened with 2 goals.

It is definitely hard for me to complete this as suddenly injuries are creeping up to unbearable levels and most of the time i have to revert to my backup plan which is creating less chances of scoring for my other players.  And yes, definitely unlucky not to get any penalties whatsoever.

I have them at normal training only but still they seem to get injured. Don't know why ?? Maybe plain bad luck.

We wrap up our CL group stage with a loss away to Porto but we qualified for the second stage somehow.

Another mixed campaign as we win only 2 out of 5. Diaby, Maier and Flores score their 1st this month.

Coupe de la Ligue BKT

A hard working win against Toulouse to qualify for the next round.

 

January

Ligue 1

Spoiler

Just two league games this month and we continue our mixed fortunes. Verratti was on top form scoring in both the games.

 

French Cup

We made difficult work of an easy match but when you are playing some awkward formations, this happens but atleast we win.

 

Coupe de la Ligue BKT

The Coupe de Ligue campaign continued though as we get to finals.

 

Verratti, Asensio, Diaby and Weah complete their quota as we have now upto 10 people i.e 50% of the squad at 5 goals.

Striker squad complete now.

Again the hard part. Moreso now because of the injuries which has put this in serious jeopardy.

Of course, i am not worried about results just getting the necessary people to score goals. Kehrer and Rabiot gets closer with 2 goals in the month while Bernat and Alves increases their tally by 1.

Absolutely boring match. Nobody finished and we had to rely on penalties to go through.

We took this game by the slimmest of margins playing the long ball and parking the bus tactics.

Hubocan hits his 1st as we win our 1st trophy in the season.

Hubocan scores his second as we move further in the French Cup.

Another poor set of matches as we move into the final on away goals as Alves and Akpoguma gets the strikes required.

Danilo scores a brace in the semis completing his 5 while the final was a WTF though we got 3 goals out of our defenders.

Lot of goals from the defenders this month as plenty of them completes their 5 but can we do the full squad??

 

Champions League Final

We beat the Old Lady to win the Champions League via a famous extra time goal from Hubocan.

 

 

So close but no cigar!! Unfortunately, Akpoguma and Bernat finishes on 4 apiece while Meunier fails to even open his account due to multiple injuries he suffered during the season.

Though it doesn't matter, my final tally:

 

So, i failed this challenge. I was pretty unlucky with injuries and perhaps my strategy was wrong. Anyways, great challenge @BatiGoal and well done @URz for finishing this. You still remain the lone member of the leaderboard. I will come back to this once i finish my other challenges and that time i definitely plan to complete. Thanks everyone for supporting me in this career and sorry for failing to win this.

Yes, it's perfectly achievable but as i mentioned, injuries were a pain.

You’ll be back stronger next time for sure......when you can fit it in with all your other challenges.
