We start the new year 7 points of top with Spurs and Man Utd above us but we look relatively comfortable in 3rd at the moment. That isn’t good enough though as the target is a title win.

January Transfers

I had a nice surprise going into January as I noticed I had a lot of wage budget left after I had sold a fair few players and been pretty frugal in my recruiting in the summer. This meant I was able to bring in one player for some money.

I choose to go for Niclas Füllkrug who is really a striker but can play RW as well so is a good option as an IF and is a different type of player to what we have as he is much more about strength and aerial ability so he gives me an option to play a striker in matches if I wish.

I also brought in 2 loans with Henry Onyekuru joining as a better, on paper at least, SS and Theo Hernandez coming in to play LWB so that Sessegnon can move further forward as Maxwel Cornet hasn’t set the world alight yet and he picked up a month injury as well.

January

This is always a busy month and it was even busier as somehow I was still in the League Cup as well and in fact I made the final.

We had a good bunch of games this month and that led to some really good results although only 3 of those games were in the league and we lost a crucial tie against Arsenal.

We never deserved anything from this game and it has to be just about our worst performance of the season. We did close the gap back up to 4 points of top though and we still have games against Man Utd and Spurs to come before the end of the season.

 

February 

In fact our first game of the month came against Man Utd but we were unable to take advantage of home soil as we drew 1-1. Considering we were 2-0 down very quickly a point was ok and there is still time left in the season. We also lost the League Cup final to Man Utd on penalties.

Did I just say we had time to catch up? Not if we lose games like our next one we won’t. We travelled to Spurs and got beaten 3-2 with us again going 2-0 down but this time we got sucker punched after we got it back to 2-2. This is starting to look bleak for us let’s be honest 🙁

 

We did win our remaining 2 league games including a derby versus Chelsea at the Cottage and actually we remained 4 points off at the beginning of March but games are starting to run out and we keep dropping points.

 

March

This has to be a month of action and we need to start putting a run together if we want to close the gap.

With it being a short month we only had 3 league games and we won all 3 which is perfect and with the teams we played no less than expected. The best result came away at Everton as we spent a good proportion of the 2nd half down to 10 men but still came away with a 2-0 win.

Is the pressure starting to tell at the top? We closed the gap to just 2 points by the end of the month.

 

April

Maybe the pressure is telling on us as we started April losing to Liverpool in a game we created the chances to win it.

This actually wasn’t a bad month and we won the games we should but we did drop more points against Man City in another game were we gave a good account of ourselves but couldn’t finish the job.

We took 9 points from our other 3 league games this month and after a 2-0 win against Stoke to end the month we had just 2 games of the league season left to play.

May

This is how the league table looked going into the last 2 games of the season.

We still sit 3rd and are 3 points of Spurs who sit top with a possible 6 points left to play for. 

We had to win against Wolves if we wanted to take it to the final day of the season

New here and God damn didn't even imagine you can have so much fun and put so much thought into FMM.

3 points isn't such a major lead. Good thing it's not 4, really hard to recover 4 points.

It’s now or never!

We take on Wolves in a do or die match, lose this and any chance of taking our title challenge to the final game of the season will be gone.

If we had any nerves they were settled early on as Ayew put away a penalty to make it 1-0 and then just after the hour mark Hernandez made the game safe in a comfortable win for us.



This result at least gives us a chance but how much of a chance depends on how Spurs and Man Utd did.

Spurs dropped points at bottom place Reading which is a big bonus for us but Man Utd got a good away win just like us, 2-0 at Watford

  

That means we are 3rd and a point behind both teams but we have a worse GD. On the final day we play Brighton, Spurs play Watford who are 19th and Man Utd are at home to Liverpool.





Spurs dropped points at Reading so they could repeat the trick and Liverpool is always going to be a tough game even at Old Trafford. Ultimately all we can do is beat Brighton and hope that it goes our way.

We don’t start the game the best as Locadia gives Brighton the lead but just before half time Onyekuru makes it 1-1 which is the score at the break. It isn’t enough for us to take the title as it stands but the results from elsewhere give us hope.





If the other games stay as they are and we score we will be champions!

Early in the 2nd half the ball breaks to Onyekuru who smashes it in to make it 2-1!!!

As it stands we are 30 minutes away from being Champions.



In the 88th minute Roofe makes it 3-1 to secure the win we needed so it all hinges on what is happening at Old Trafford and Vicarage Road.

Man Utd have brought it back to 2-2 but that won’t be enough for them to take the title and our win will drop them down to 3rd.

Moments before Roofe secured us the points Tottenham’s January signing Emre Can had scored to spark wild celebrations amongst the Tottenham fans.

That goal means that Spurs take the title in the final 3 minutes of the season and break Fulham hearts.



 

Despite the ultimate disappointment it was a productive season for Fulham as Jordan Ayew won Players’ Player of the Year as well as finishing Premier League top scorer. Not bad for a Swansea reject that cost £2.3m.

On the 16th of May 2020 Fulham took the field in only there 2nd ever FA Cup final in their history with the opposition Liverpool. Things looked bad for the London side when Mo Salah scored after 2 minutes but goals from Onyekuru and then Johansen turned the game on its head and gave Fulham their first major honour.



Despite being 3 minutes away from the title and losing a League Cup final this finally gave the Fulham fans something to celebrate and with Champions League football next season the Fulham fans walked back down Wembley way positive about the future of the club.

 The following day Fuddled Fox resigned his position as Fulham manager.........

Off the top of my head I think that I was never top of the table at any point except during the final game so definitely not meant to be.

Being 3 minutes off winning the title means the FA Cup meant very little but it was a nice consolation I suppose.
