4-4-2 Impressive Defence

I'm a big fan of 442 tactics in general and I'm always inspired by Diego Simeone and how he believes in 442 as a great tactic.

So i was trying hard to create something similar to Diego's 442 Tactic.

This tactic really really relies on gifted players specially Midfielders and Attackers ( Target Man) , you must find the right attributes & and the right players to fit in. Otherwise it won't work very well.

Team Instructions

Defensive mentality with narrow width and fast tempo which is unusual, and last freedom set to balance.

Defensive Instructions

High Defensive Line & Closing Down All Over, Tackling is Normal, and don't forget the Time Wasting.

Attacking Instructions.

Suggestion.

• If you are leading by more than 3 goals you can switch to Contain and freedom to Disciplined.
• If you got a red card then sub the Advanced Forward and and keep the Target man then change the mentality to Contain and freedom to Disciplined.
• Assignments ( Corners ) pick from Midfielders Only. 

Results

This tactic gave me a very solid defense and very attractive 442 and most importantly great Titles.

Tested in Other Leagues.

I managed to win The Emirates FA Cup and I promoted to English Primer League

Portuguese League 

Northern Irish League

i tried this out as a back up set up for the inevitable mid season slump and it works really well. great for grinding out a result

I'm glad it works. My only suggestion is to get the right players then you will get more great results

Update

I did some tweaks to the tactic and decided to test the tactic with a small team and to see how it gonna work. 

The Changes

Changed CM to DLP 

Defensive Full Back to Full Back

Attacking Instructions ( Final Third )

Work into Box & Through Balls

The Results

After 4 years I managed to reach the Premier League with Morecambe.

And just now Tested a few games

You see all players roles and the need attributes. If you are asking about numbers I will explain. If you play in lower leagues it hard to find top player so the minimum number shouldn't be below 9, so between 9 & 10. But if you get higher that's definitely better and better.

What I found to work. As your team gets better, switch mentality from defensive to control. That's the only adjustment I made from original tactic...I did this second season prem as wasn't working as well(after back to back promotions with bradford). Working a charm again now.

I think i will test it at some point, but would you recommend the original settings, or with the new changes you made, for Morecambe?

And what do you think of cowleys adjustments? did you try those out ;)?

My self I don't change the mentality I just change attacking Instructions.

Well honestly I try all of them and it depends on your squad. So far this attacking Instructions is working great for me

Thanks for sharing this tactic it worked brilliantly.Been managing Chelsea for 2 years and it has got me almost every silverware.

One question though about the Advanced Forward.I changed Hazard and Hudson Odoi into them and for the first season the stats are very good,on the second season they suddenly got almost no assist and out of form.Does it require the player to have high teamwork?(cuz Hazard is 10 and Hudson-Odoi is like 7~8 at that time.)

Try both and see which is better for your team.

Used this with mixed success in my Watford save. I struggled against teams playing a 433/4231 initially and still frustratingly ALWAYS concede a goal in the 1st 5 minutes against the traditional top 6 teams for some reason. Now I have managed to make it work well after bringing in an upgraded AP and TM, sitting 5th after 11 games with both starting strikers 3rd/4th top scorers in the league. Thank you!
