Hello Vibe, and welcome to FMM19 Training: Which Intensity?

This is a three part series that I’ve been working on for a while now and is in some sense a Training Guide, although I’d also like to think it’s an article of some sort.

The premise of this is simple, I will be backing up a brand new save as manager of Manchester United, I will be selecting a starting XI that will play every match possible up until the 1st of January. In part one, every single player in that XI will be set on intensive training and I will be keeping track of each player’s development and injuries statistics.

Once we arrive to the 1st of January I will be taking the relevant details and then restarting the same save from July and setting everyone on a medium intensity, with the same XI, same tactics, same coaches etc. followed by the low intensity.

My hope for this is to come to some sort of conclusion as to which intensity is the most well balanced in terms of development against injuries, which will allow you as the community to pick the best training possible for your players. Logic would say medium is the most balanced, although I’m not so sure.

Part One: Intensive has been completed and that will follow in the next couple of days in the comments below, followed by Part Two: Medium and lastly Part Three: Low

Thanks for reading, and any comments will of course be appreciated.

Part One: Intensive Training

Massive apologies for the delay lads. It’s been a hectic week to say the least!

In part one of this experiment we will be looking at the pros and cons of having each player on the intensive training setting. Each member of the chosen starting XI will play every game possible up until the 1st of January, the only exception is when a player is unavailable through injuries or suspension.

First off, let’s briefly run through the starting XI and the formation that I’ll be using.

Formation:-

EAEB0039-7D1E-4823-95D9-1C0352973A08.thumb.png.7767a57bcabe6d28901dcc6f97a93d81.png

As you can see, this is a fairly standard 4-3-2-1 formation. It’s a slight variation on @PriZe‘s Black Pearl tactic that has proven to be a very popular tactic in the past few years.

Starting XI:-

GK: David De Gea

RB: Diogo Dalot

LB: Luke Shaw

RCB: Eric Bailly

LCB: Victor Lindelof

RCM: Ander Herrera

CM: Nemanja Matic

LCM: Paul Pogba

RW: Marcus Rashford

LW: Anthony Martial

ST: Romelu Lukaku

I’d personally like to think that this squad is a fairly balanced one in terms of this experiment. We have young talents in the likes of Rashford and Dalot. Experienced heads in Matic and De Gea. Players nearing or at their peak in Pogba and Lukaku, and also a couple of players who are known to take a knock now and again in Shaw and Bailly. I purposefully put those two in as I’d like to see what the different intensities can do for an injury prone player, Luke Shaw especially.

The Results:-

Now is the time to reveal how these eleven players got on whilst all under the influence of intensive training.

David De Gea:

Only the ten days out injured for our number one, and with little room for improvement anyway it was nice to see his Handling, Communication and Leadership get boosted by a point each.

No injuries whatsoever for the young right back and he improved immensely in the short time we played this save, a massive 15 points across the board actually.

Luke Shaw:

Attribute Change: N/A

What a strange result on the part of this player. When I first set up the save I was rooting for him to miss the majority of the save but in a huge twist, he didn’t suffer a single injury. On the downside he didn’t improve as a player in the slightest. Shaw has a lot of bad hidden attributes in any save in this game, most notably that he’s “unprofessional”. Not sure if it’s me being bias but I believe that’s a very very unfair attribute to give him. He’s been the complete opposite of unprofessional each and every time Mourinho threw him under the bus or questioned him on his weight etc. He always came back and gives a 100% each time. Anyway, moving on!

Eric Bailly:

Another player that I was expecting to take a knock in this save, and once again it’s a player that didn’t suffer from any injuries under IT. A four point attribute gain has seen him develop into a fantastic player either way.

Injured on two separate occasions, one a 10 day injury and the other a more hefty three week lay off. All in all it’s missing around a month of football which is a shame and also makes him the biggest casualty so far in this test. The injuries reflected on his attribute change as there quite simply wasn’t any.

A two week lay off at the start of the league season didn’t put this man off improving, as he gains a huge 13 points overall. Is that down to intensive training or is he simply showing his potential either way?

A ten day injury didn’t put this man off from gaining huge numbers on his page! 12 points and most if not all are in primary attributes for his role. Being our main goalscoring outlet I had a feeling this would happen as he’s bound to receive better ratings than say what a defender would. This in turn leads me to believe that either the training system is heavily flawed, or the ratings system is, or worse, both. I know what I think..

Grand Total Attribute Gain: +62 Points

Average Gain per Player: +5.63 Points

Injuries: 8

Total Length: 3 months and 1 week

Average Length of Injury: 11 Days

Conclusion:

I honestly thought we’d see a lot more injuries than we did. 8 injuries in six months spread across 11 players is nothing really, and when you factor in that the average length of injury was 11 days then it’s even better. On average each player gained 5.63 points on their pages which in six months is decent going. The real questions will be asked once the results of the other two intensities have been released so at the moment all this is slightly irrelevant!

As always Vibe I thank you for reading, and please do remember to leave a comment, even if it’s a question. Part Two will follow in the next few days 😁

Part Two: Medium Intensity

In part two of this experiment we will be looking at the pros and cons of having each player on the medium training setting. Each member of the chosen starting XI will play every game possible up until the 1st of January, the only exception is when a player is unavailable through injuries or suspension.

No Injuries this time around for Sir David, unfortunately however it meant no attribute gain too. I’m not too fussed about this as he can pick and choose when he wants to gain some attributes for all I care 😛

No injuries for the big man either but he, like Martial doesn’t get near his attribute gain from his IT Test. He still looks a fantastic player and his average rating was much much better than in the first test. I guess that’s the most important bit right?

Total Attribute Gain: +55

Average Gain per Player: +5

Injuries: 5

Total Length of Injuries: 4 Months 1 Week

Average Length of Injury: 24 days

Conclusion:

Well this medium test was a tale of two halves! The defenders and midfielders benefited slightly better than they did on the Intensive Test, but the three attackers, Rashford, Martial & Lukaku wore worse off. The grand total attribute gain was only 7 points off matching the IT test, and we also suffered less injuries on medium. However, the average length of those injuries is more than double the average length of IT injuries, whilst the total injury length is much more heavier than it was on Intensive. It’s been a funny old experiment so far looking back at both sets of results and I’m thoroughly looking forward to seeing how the players fare on the Low intensity training.

As always Vibe, thank you for reading and any comments are massively appreciated.

Part Three: Low Intensity Training

Huge apologies for the delay in this guys. On the one hand I totally forgot about it, and on the other I just couldn’t find the time to write it up.

In part three of this experiment we will be looking at the pros and cons of having each player on the low intensity training setting. Each member of the chosen starting XI will play every game possible up until the 1st of January, the only exception is when a player is unavailable through injuries or suspension.

The Results:-

As this was the low intensity test, I fully expected there to be hardly any injuries, and there wasn’t any training injuries at all in this test. There was however one matchday injury suffered by Eric Bailly which ruled him out for three weeks. Other than that, every player in this test had a clean bill of health.

Strange one this. After seeing more or less everyone grow immensely in this short save, I was expecting this man to stand out. We do see some growth, but it’s nothing to write home about and I have no idea why as he was one of the better players in this save performance wise, he also suffered no injuries, so I’m shocked to see such little growth. Shame.

Boom! That’s how we wrap a test up. Lukaku looks an absolute tank! Not as much growth as his IT counterpart but it’s still 10 massive points on his board that has turned him into a deadly striker.

Total Attribute Gain: + 80

Average Gain per Player: +7.2

Injuries: 1 (Matchday)

Total Length of Injuries: 3 Weeks

Average Length of Injury: 3 Weeks

Conclusion:

Low Intensity training has blown up! 80 points gain between all eleven players. I’d planned on having a logical conclusion to this, but obviously the lads up at SI Towers had other plans when they decided that different intensities don’t actually do what they’re meant to do. Obviously this needs a lot more further testing to be absolutely concrete, but it looks like from this little test save that Low Intensity Training is the way forward. Mostly injury free and a hell of a lot of attribute growth. I’ll post the different collective outcomes below so it will be easier for everyone to cross reference.

Total Attribute Gain:

Intensive: +62

Medium: +55

Low:  +80

Average Gain Per Player:

Intensive: +5.63

Medium: +5

Low: +7.2

Injuries:

Medium: 5

Low: 1 (Matchday)

Average Length of Injury:

Low: 21 Days

That will be useful cos ideally everyone could train intensive and not get injured so if the intensive doesn’t really increase injury I am super happy with that

I think I once changed a relaxed guys personality to normal with 2 seasons of intensive. I don't like petulant, lazy, relaxed, unproffesional, selfish personalities, so they all get stuck on intensive so they hopefully train well and I can sell them off somewhere.

Otherwise I only change to intensive where player asks for it.

I always go for intensive whenever the player is 'very rarely injured' and medium to every other player. I think I only had to change that to light on one occasion, with Federico Mattielo.

Will update this tomorrow evening lads. I’d planned on sharing the intensive results yesterday but got caught up in something, and it’s Nuke junior’s first birthday today so today is most definitely out the question.

I’m glad a few of you are excited though 😁

Injured on two separate occasions, one a 10 day injury and the other a more hefty three week lay off.

Well I also expected more injuries tbh :P

Some players did great jumps, others barely of which some shocking.

I thought there’d be more injuries also. It’ll be interesting how many injuries you get on the normal and low settings.

Two of those eight injuries were matchday ones two. So theoretically the squad only suffered six training ground injuries.

Thanks for the comments lads

Interesting how the attackers seemed to do slightly better on the intensive but not the other positions.

Looking forward to seeing the low settings now based on that.
