Career England 2009 U-21 Challenge Attempt

Intro

I created this challenge myself a while back and decided I would be the first career posted of it on here.

Essentially the challenge is to use the players who played in Englands U-21 squad for the Euros in 2009 and see how they do in the premier league.

As you can see this is a motley, rag tag crew of mixed skill levels.

I decided that a team with a decent budget and standing would be needed to persuade Walcott and especially Milner to move clubs so I chose Chelsea.

Results

I must admit these players sometimes had me tearing my hair out and I twice had to beg to keep my job. However, I got to the end of the season and here is how the lads performed.

Top performer - Martin Cranie, didn't see that coming.

Top scorer - Walcott, more predictable

What was my score though?

Results

7th! No wonder I was begging for my job.

League Points - 62

Goal Difference - 15

Total - 77 Points

So just about finished this challenge while the match was on (glad of the distraction actually) 

I chose Liverpool for the same reasons as yourself. Good budget and rep. More likely to get all the players I needed for it. 

I may have gone slightly beyond the challenge as I did sell every single member of the Ljverpool squad I could bringing in a cool £763 million in player sales and signing 20 of the players needed for £131 million. The only holdout was Micah Richards who wouldn't come until January and I then managed to take off Villa for nothing. 

I chose a 4-3-2-1 formation due to the lack of attacking depth the challenge gave. 

Cups went to the wayside. FA Cup - 6th Round. League Cup - Semis. Champions League - Group Stage and Europa League - QF. 

I nearly did it though. I nearly pulled off the league title with these merry men. I was leading pretty much all the way until the penultimate game. Even had a 12 point lead at one point. But injuries to Milner, Gibbs, Noble, Driver and Agbonlahor put pay to any title ambitions. A humiliation at the hands of West Ham in the form of a 7-0 away loss killed my goal difference and Tottenham took advantage. A 3-3 draw at home to Chelsea left me as runners up. 

Player wise, Andy Driver was my top performer with 7.50 rating from 50 games, James Tomkins 2nd with a 7.47 rating from 50 games and 3rd was Fraizer Campbell with 7.34. Campbell was also my top scorer with 39 from 61 games. 

So in the end.

League Points - 80

GD +30.

Total 110 points.
