Career 1759 Attempts The American π Challenge

Having completed my Parrott 1k career I was looking for a new short challenge to have a go at and this one caught my eye.

Credit to @Ashez for creating the challenge.

Team: Porto

I’ve chosen Porto as I’ve used them before in the Parking the Bus challenge so I feel that I can get the system I want to use working with them. I’m going to be using my Ultimate Domination tactic to further test it it in a new environment.

First update will follow later with my choice of players and first half of the season.

Update 1

Here we are at the beginning of the season. There were a few countries I’d thought about trying this challenge in and I’d actually had a thought to try it in the lower leagues in one of the British countries as I know you usually have a few free transfer options available but I just had a feeling that work permits would become an issue. I remembered my Parking the Bus challenge attempt with Porto and thought to give it a go there as they would have a decent budget to get my Americans in and probably some left over to improve the squad. So that was that.

Players

The first of my three American players is Jordan Morris who I brought in from Seattle for £2.9m. He’s by no means brilliant but he has some decent attributes and I’m confident he can bag himself a good few goals in my set up.

The second guy I’ve chosen is Fabian Johnson who cost £6m from Borussia Monchengladbach. Again not a fantastic player but I was drawn to his pace and movement. I plan to train him to play in the right inside forward position.

The third of my American heroes is Julian Green who I bought from SpVgg Greuther Furth for £5.75m. He will play on the left inside forward position and whilst he’s not great I’m hoping with him only being 23 years old that he may improve really quickly with decent training facilities.

Transfers

I’ll not post the transfer screenshots until the final update but I’ll go through my main transfers now.

I brought in the rather steady Scott McKenna from Aberdeen for £5.5m and I expect him to do very well in this league as he’s really reliable. The only other incoming transfer was Gustavo Cuellar from FLA for £5.75m. He’s a decent centre midfielder who will be used as a rotation option.

Those are all the incoming transfers and I’ll add the screenshots on the second and final update. We have let a few go and I’ll include those too.

Supertaca

We beat Aves here in a 3-1 win with both Green and Morris getting themselves a goal.

League Cup

Did I mention that I hate the Portuguese League Cup? I couldn’t do anything in it during the parking the bus challenge and it’s no different here as we crash out in the group stage. The teams I played were all rather poor but I just couldn’t get it going in this comp.

League

The league is going swimmingly with just 1 draw and only conceding 7 goals so far. Not sure we’re scoring quite enough goals for the challenge though.

We are still in the Champions League and the Taca de Portugal so you’ll find out how we get on in those during the next update.

Fixtures

Here are the fixtures so far.

American Heroes

Our boys are doing ok but not setting the world alight. Morris is doing ok in the poacher role but not quite getting the goals I’d like. He has had a month long layoff through injury though so hopefully he’ll kick on during the second half of the season.

Not a bad start to the season for the boys and our Americans have not let the team down (Well apart from the league cup but I take the blame for that as I’m clearly jinxed in the comp) at all in terms of results.

I’ll update with the second half of the season tomorrow.

Thanks for reading.

I'm glad someone is giving this a go because every time I see that the challenge mentioned it reminds me what a brilliant song it is.

Good luck mate.

I’ll do my best!

It’s a timeless song! I’ve actually stopped and watched the video a couple of times since the challenge was posted.

As I read your OP I asked Alexa to play it. I’m not sure what kind of person would not like the song 🤔

You’re right there it’s certainly a classic. 😀

Real solid start that mate, when I posted this one I expected it to be popular or ignored so I'm just happy someone is playing it lol. It's an interesting approach going for wide midfielders over triple strikers but good luck in part two!

As for songs another one I've always wanted to use for a TT title is "Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right, here I am stuck in the middle with you" 😂

Yeah I’m not the best of FMM players. I’m thinking maybe a 3 striker system or a 2 striker and an SS or IF may have been a better choice but you live and learn. If I get a score down then it’ll hopefully encourage others to have a go at the challenge and I may revisit it later.

Yes from Reservoir Dogs haha, I’m sat here now trying to think of a challenge for that. 😀

Personally I just enjoy the different approaches, to me it's about the journey and not the score....Some times 😂

End of Season Update

We ended the last update in a commanding position in the league and still going strong in two cup competitions so we’ll now see how the second half of the season played out.

Transfers

As I explained in the first update we brought in Scott McKenna to play as first choice centre back and Gustavo Cuellar was brought in as a rotation option playing in centre midfield. We also bought our American heroes and that brings to a close our incomings. We let go of Brahimi, Oliver, Aboubakar, Silva, Estrela and Kelvin and although a few of them are decent I didn’t see them getting much game time so they left.

League

We won the league in fine style and although we didn’t score a load of goals I can’t find any real faults as we only conceded 17 goals and would only be beaten once.

Cups

As you know we went out of the League Cup during the first half of the season and the less said about it the better.

Taca de Portugal

We made it all the way to the final where we played SLB and we beat them 3-0 with all the goals coming from two of our Americans.

Champions League

We played Valencia in the quarter final and we dominated the first leg but couldn’t finish enough of our chances and only won 1-0. The second leg was a totally different game and we just couldn’t get going. We got beat 3-1 which would put us out but the winning goal came fairly late in the game so we we were a wee bit unfortunate in that sense.

American Heroes

Julian Green got himself 20 goals which is not great but he’s not a top player in this league so we take it.

Jordan Morris was in the poacher role and he managed 54 goals which I’m happy with. He also made good gains in his attributes during the season.

Fabian Johnson would only hit 14 goals but again he did his best and performed well for the team.

Challenge Total

Goals from our American heroes: 88

Games Played: 55

Total: 1.60

I think I’ve added it up correctly but you may want to check.

Conclusion

Whilst it’s not a great total and one that is easily beatable I’m still happy with the season. The team performed well considering the three Americans are probably not as good as the players they replaced in the team. I also really enjoyed the challenge and would recommend it to others.

Solid attempt mate, I used Fabian Johnson in the OME Cup iirc and he delivered fairly well for me.

Great career write up as always too dudes KIU

Thanks, Yeah I think it was just my system not suiting Johnson when it comes to his lack of goals but he did a decent job for the team.
