Fabled Number Ten - Season Two Results

As the old saying goes: football is a game of two halves. If you were to extrapolate that to a season, then you’d have our second attempt summed up in a nutshell. It really was a season of two halves.

We were seventh just before Christmas. We made a complete mess of qualifying from the group stage of the Champions Cup, but we did scrape through just.

We also lost the European Super Cup. I genuinely thought I may get the sack!

I rationalised that it was because of three things:

  1. My squad wasn’t yet mature enough;
  2. The best players were now too old;
  3.  Ntcham just wasn’t good enough

Thankfully, we managed to claim the Club World Championship. Our main boy scored five times across the semi and the final.

It was in January that things truly began to improve. A massive offer came in for Douglas Costa, who was now 29. I reluctantly accepted as I wanted to reinvest the money. I also let Cancelo go for a decent amount of cash.

Higuain was a summer sale.

In came Lemar, Coman, and Bailey. Delighted with that bit of business. Bailey was transfer listed and joined for £23.5m!

De Ligt, Upa, and Stark should challenge Rugani and McKenna for central defence roles.

With our squad now looking much sexier, the Old Lady marched on. We grabbed the Italian Cup, utterly destroying Inter Milan. Ntcham scored in his third final.

And then we destroyed them again the Italian Cup final.

Nitcham created two but did not get on the scoresheet. Poor bloke - he had high hopes on that.

Inter, however, had the final laugh. Despite sorting out stuff out, Inter managed to win the league. We were twenty points worse off than last year! I’m fairly confident normal order will be resumed next year though.

But, wait, there is still the Champions Cup to go. Could we grab it for the second successive season?

Ntcham made sure we did.

Two goals in a closely fought final.

He really did have a good season and finished the league as the top goal scorer...

...and ended up with some rather sexy stats.

Ntcham is worth £73m now, which I never expected in a million years. As I have to sell or demote as part of the rules, it’ll be interesting how much I manage to rid him for.

So, he played 57 games. He scored 53 goals and assisted in 36, giving him a contribution of 89. That gives him a contribution of 1.56/game which more than makes up for the disappointing league season.

Season 1: Irish. Jeff Hendrick. 1.43/g. 53 points

Season 2: French. Olivier Ntcham. 1.56/g. 89 points.

142 points total.

Our next player is to be the modern day Roberto Baggio!

Thanks for reading and the support so far. It really does help when it comes to more interesting player selection.

Shame about the league but other competitions made up for that and as for Ntcham, what a man 😍

It took me blinkin’ long enough to learn how to spell his name. I wrote my update getting it completely wrong. He is a beast though!

Fabled Number Ten - Season Three Player

Next up our Fabled Number Ten needs to be the modern day version of Roberto Baggio.

I didn’t want a green of any shade as a striker, which ruled out a lorra lorra players, and I wanted to keep off-piste. So I retrieved my encyclopaedia of players and ended up thumbing my way through until the final page, where in amongst all the Zs we stumbled upon this guy:

Nicolo Zaniolo is now a Juventus player, joining us from Roma! Welcome to the Old Lady young man.

Let season three commence.

Thanks for reading!

Cracking choice!

He looks like a well rounded player.

Yeah, he seems quite good across the board. I’d never heard of him, but I’m sure a lot on here probably have?

I haven’t either and I have used a good few Italian players this year. I can see him turning into a top top player in a few seasons.

Looks bang average tbh 😛

Could be, I know he scored two in the recent champs league first leg - I work with a Roma fan so I've heard of him 🙄

Haha, I didn’t know that. Now it looks like I’ve done some research, which is giving me far too much credit.

Haha, no comment. But I’m going to stick his results on tonight so stay tuned to see how the players ‘performed’ for the Old Lady.

Fabled Number Ten - Season Three Results

Having gotten two seasons in to this and done okay so far, I was relatively looking forward to season 3. I needed an Italian Fabled Number Ten: the modern day Roberto Baggio. That is how I ended up with Nicolo Zaniolo. A bit of a risk, but I felt I could do similar with him what I did with Ntcham.

My main priority this season was to win the league after last year’s embarrassment of scraping second after a truly terrible first half of the season.

And win it we did.

08EBEB3B-48D6-41E1-87D4-7175D642326F.thumb.jpeg.c9270c84404ca7730f77d30312f2dfc3.jpeg

90 points this year. Too many draws and losses still, but, heck, this is a goalscoring and assists challenge so I couldn’t care less on the league front. We banged in 96 goals too, which was handy, but I’d wanted 100+.

Travelling back in time, our first cup of the season was the European Super Cup. A 4-1 destruction of SLB, with Zaniolo scoring on his debut, was a nice way to kick it all off.

4221B637-6434-46D7-9DBD-CA8573DC8035.thumb.jpeg.6d6f06bf11349f90a21ed598753e4ed4.jpeg

The mighty Jeonbuk were also beaten 4-1 in the Club World Championship.  Zaniolo grabbed a brace in this one.

1AA2A0BC-825A-4FD9-A529-E20C7709481F.thumb.jpeg.68f17349bfb1ca6684f07715cd6eaa5b.jpeg

And our young Italian also grabbed a goal in a 5-2 annihilation of Inter in the Super Cup final, where Dybala snared the matchball with a hat-trick.

A2DB1524-1CFB-4C67-A591-86637E61FE41.thumb.jpeg.90461c025593cff3fdeaa2ef6a00044c.jpeg

We also won the Italian Cup. He scored again.

It always seems to be Inter in the finals.

Sadly, however, the clean sweep was not to be. An aggregate loss to, of all teams, Sevilla in the Champions Cup quarter finals meant we would miss three games from of the remainder of the season plus three games next season.

46521EB5-FD47-4B06-B6B6-68153F6F3D37.thumb.jpeg.9b295373537945d6cf5d9a8acfb7db64.jpeg

It was just a weird game. A few of the players got 5s. Odd. But there we go.

Our transfer policy was just to strengthen the team, with Zaniolo obviously our main purchase.

C13E3B55-78D8-417E-ABB3-3D5537425AAD.thumb.jpeg.efabc9c10ff557481938755b527b8015.jpeg

Ntcham went out as part of the part-exchange for Trent. I’d forgotten to remove the buyout clause from Can. Doh!

2E2BE78E-913A-4109-9864-70398D63D16E.thumb.jpeg.30ab7cb698d50549ff460c985dacc9d8.jpeg

As for the modern day Roberto Baggio, let’s see how he did. Ntcham set a massive standard last season with 89, which I knew by winter wasn’t going to be met.  From January Zaniolo just never seemed truly fit. I had to sub him off at 60-70 minutes most games.

Being knocked out of the Euro Cup meant we ended up playing every seven games, so I could leave him on the pitch and let his condition drop to the 60s without having to worry about subbing him. But then I ran the risk of proper injury.

He did do a great job overall though. His stats ended up looking very good:

His ending value was £63m, which providing I can sell him, means a tidy profit otherwise I will have to part exchange him too.

He grabbed 43 goals and 19 assists in 53 games. A return of 62 points and a contribution of 1.17. Not as good as the others, but still a total I am happy with.

C5885CEE-0BBE-429C-B0CE-73EE72C0ED22.thumb.jpeg.91507ff916b79e233a8ca74f525c0856.jpeg

Season 1: Irish. Jeff Hendrick. 1.43/g. 53 points

Season 2: French. Olivier Ntcham. 1.56/g. 89 points.

Season 3: Italian. Nicolo Zaniolo. 1.17/g. 62 points.

204 points total.
(68 pts/plr avg)

Next season our Fabled Number Ten needs to be the modern day Del Piero... so another Italian will be heading our way.

And not Barella. But a decent guess.

Wasn’t meant to be in the Champions League final but good season for the team and your number ten. I think I went for Verdi next and he got my best score.

I’m guessing maybe Bonaventura next?

Also there’s a horrible stinky smell in here but I can’t quite put my finger on what it is.😁
