Hello Vibe, and welcome to a quick one season save which I’m currently playing alongside my Sell Them Slowly Career. Due to that save being voted on by the members of Vibe I can only play up to a certain point at any given time. So a one season challenge to be played on the side seems a perfect match for that career.

The Challenge:

One Season Strikerless is a challenge created by @Foxy during last year’s edition of the game. It took off last year, with no less than 17 attempts across both engines. My own personal attempt last year ended up in 6th placed overall, which isn’t too bad considering strikerless king @Rob occupies a couple of the places above me. I’ve not yet attempted it this year, and I’ve got the leaderboard itch again!

Challenge Link

The Rules:

  • Take over at any team in any division you wish.
  • Sell or demote all players that have green as there striker ability so you won't be tempted to use them.
  • Pick your three attacking midfielders that are going to show you don't need strikers. You may buy in or use players already in the squad.
  • You may not play with a striker at any point during the season. Your three players may play in any position and role in the attacking midfield.
  • Sacked = Game Over

Points:

  • 1 point for every goal your three players score.
  • 1 point for every assist your three players provide.
  • League points.
  • League goal difference. Either +/-.

The Players:

The players of chosen are of course of the highest calibre as I don’t want to have a completely laughable score. I’ve opted to use two already at the club:

  • Ousmane Dembélé
  • Phillipe Coutinho

And then I’ve paid top dollar for a fat ginger kid:

  • Kevin De Bruyne

Outgoing Transfers:

I actually managed to get rid of the only two recognised strikers in the first team - Suárez and Messi. £100m each from Man City gave me a decent chunk to spend improving other areas of my team.

Incoming Transfers:

The De Bruyne deal took the full £225m allowed in one transfer, whilst there was also a £149m transfer for some French lad that I have absolutely zero connection with. £82m was spent in brining in my favourite player this year, David Alaba, whilst another £52m was spent for an attacking midfield backup in the shape of Alex Iwobi.

Thank you for reading Part One of this career, I hope you’ll be following. Part Two will be out in a couple days as we stop off at mid season to see how the strikerless trio are getting on.

Halfway Update

Hello and welcome to the first of two updates on this here career. In this update I’ll be quickly diving into our league results, along with how my Strikerless trio are getting on.

League:

With the team I’ve assembled I should be able to piss this league. Piss we did, after 16 games we find ourselves 4 points clear at the summit, having dropped points in only two games, one draw and one loss.

Our defence is outstanding as we are averaging to concede a goal every three games. I’d like to be able to score more, but since the update it’s something I’m yet to crack to be perfectly honest. We’re averaging over two goals per game though so I won’t complain that much.

The Strikerless Trio

Ousmane Dembélé:

The young Frenchman has played his part in 23 games so far this season, he’s getting jaded often, really often. So I’m not getting the best amount of minutes out of him. He has however contributed in 26 goals so far, 18 goals and 8 assists. A relatively decent total, but one I’d have liked to be a little better

Phillippe Coutinho:

Moving onto the Brazilian magician now. Lil Phil as he is now known, also played his part in 23 games. Unlike Dembélé however, he’s had a stinker. 6 goals and 9 assists, a measly 15 points means that he is undoubtedly the black sheep of the trio. Unless De Bruyne performed worse of course!

Kevin De Bruyne:

What does £225m get you these days in the football world?

Well 19 goals and 19 assists in 23 games apparently! Yeah, De Bruyne has, with all things considered, smashed the first half of the season. He’s the man leading the line through the middle, and he’s also the man on set piece duties to use his 17 crossing and two footedness to it’s full effect.

153 points, just a little under halfway, so I’m essentially looking at 300+ points. I’d be happy with 300+ but I’d love to get closer to the summit than that!

Thank you for reading, and thank you all for the positive comments  :)

Good start and deffo on target for smashing 300. Great to see you also suffering the dreaded ‘third player doing no where near as good as the first two’ problem that drives me nuts too!

Great half season there.

I know Coutinho isn’t the quickest but I’m surprised he’s only got 13 for pace.

Good luck for the second half.😀

I honestly hadn’t noticed that. I suppose it’s fair actually, he doesn’t look like he warrants a green number in there, but then again neither does a few other players!

Cheers Ian :)

Oh it’s not just me then! 😂 I can’t even remember my attempt from last year so I’m not sure what to base it on. 300+ was the target from the off, especially with all things considered i.e shitty update, shitty update, shitty update and of course the shitty update

Part Two

The thing about having two careers on the go is that one will always be ignored or forgotten 😂 That’s what’s happened to this one I’m afraid, totally forgot about it! Only remembered due to me having a “Strikerless Challenge” photo album in my phone and quickly realising I’d left this a little longer than I should.

League:

P38 W35 D2 L1 - A record I’m buzzed with to be honest, especially considering the quality of the league.

The only thing that’s haunting me is the goals scored column. 87 goals just isn’t good enough by my own standard. The defence is great no doubt, but there’s all important goals missing there that could have been scored/assisted by my three player choices.

The Strikerless Trio

Ousmane Dembélé:

Managed to play in all but 6 games this season, a wonderful return for a player of his age. His form tailed off at the back end of the season due to fatigue/tiredness/jaded/shitty update and he could therefore only contribute to 45 goals, 30 scored 15 assisted. I’m disappointed as I’d targeted at least a point per game from each player but alas, it wasn’t to be.

Phillippe Coutinho:

Well Lil Phil decided to take a leaf out of his real life form this season and implement it into my save! Shocking, absolutely shocking. 13 goals and 14 assists. Played 55 games, scored 27 points, less than half a point per match 😥

Kevin De Bruyne:

The fat ginger kid might be the only silver lining of this career. He does score more than a point per match, 76 points in fact which is great stuff, but again, let down by the other two.

Well I scraped over the 300 point mark. I was to be honest expecting at least 350 considering the player choices but it’s harder than you think. I’ve tried working it out in my head the ways to achieve a good score and it’s pretty mental:

So you need to have a similar league campaign to what I did so around 170-180 points total, then you need an average of three player points per game, so that’s either - three goals, two goals and an assists, one goal and two assists or three assists! Per match!

Had I have scored that average of 3 player points per match then I’d still only be on 350 points which still wouldn’t put me anywhere near the top of the leaderboard!

@Foxy my man, could you add me onto the Strikerless leaderbord with 301 points please :)

Thank you all for following/commenting, it’s really appreciated :D

Well done mate, a good score and De Bruyne is awesome! Coutinho a big let down unfortunately.

I've read this morning that a new update is showing for some people with conditioning tweaks so lets hope that takes away some of the frustration, I've been starting players at 80% which i know i shouldn't but in these challenges you have to try and get your players on the pitch for the maximum amount of time. Let's hope its improved or gone back to how it was.

Anything above 300 is a good score IMO, so well done.

Regarding the top score, I’m not entirely sure if you are giving me credit or raising your eyebrow to it, but I’ve just got one formation that I’ve worked on since the Strikerless round of the Olympics tournament.

Nothing but credit mate! :)  I know how hard you’ve worked on these challenges.

Cheers

Cheers Smoggy. Coutinho was a massive letdown unfortunately, the left Inside forward is usually so overpowered from past experience so I’m curious if they’ve nerfed it! I know for a fact they’ve nerfed the team instruction “work into box” 😂

Fantastic score there mate. It shows how pathetic i was in my first attempt at this where i am sitting right in the bottom of the leaderboard. Well done.

Nearly missed this update.

I’ve noticed since the last hot fix the inside forward role seems different to me. I can’t put my finger on how it’s changed but I’m thinking at this stage that they need to have great pace now but of course that could be a load of nonsense.

Anyway well done on this as it is a great score.👍
