Help Need help with my Arsenal career!

Recommended Posts

Hi Vibe,

I am hoping someone here can tell me what to do to improve the outcome of my result, basically a way to turn a losing or drawing game to a winning one. I have won the premier league twice but i seem to lose to big teams quite easily and getting knocked out of the FA, Champions and Carabao.

The tactic i am using:

I made a slight change to my attacking instructions from Rabbei1908.

Below are my results from my second season.F0894863-D59C-4E8F-83DE-F87476EAA1D7.thumb.png.16c2ad6d856beac291ff9eb6545e828d.png809D8E64-9990-4D73-BFE3-C7CFAE1F47CD.thumb.png.4c20a0c8dda1fca556ad5c62cb0e7468.png85162AE3-9812-4031-9750-739A56003453.thumb.png.27cac1d4577a7fca728dd5074f437e2d.png3CAEC3E0-D86D-4232-B226-1A7D91DF6930.thumb.png.dac9df9c2d270f4fae2a70f66d8f235c.png207E0A3F-40EB-4B51-9D11-4678E0EE492D.thumb.png.492d5d871299506582da49401c3e5da5.png9F0587C2-5C99-4640-832E-F3F3DC83B500.thumb.png.1ee6efbb2d5d56a2787a52a73b5a6f86.png3F46CC20-68B3-410F-89A2-F0385E623B9F.thumb.png.d225e12e0c80f74d82c8ad571acbd3a6.png

Although this tactics has worked really well for me. I am trying to improve for the new season. Mainly addressing these most common negatives from the match analysis:

1. Wingers struggled to make an impact.

2. Lone striker struggled to get into the game.

3. Lack of goal threat from attacking midfielders.

4. Lone striker had little support.

5. Despite scoring, the striker didn’t test opposition keeper enough.

My striker, amc and aml/amr stats is as follows:

Any help is welcome whether it’s a formation change, role change or team instructions.

Thanks for your time.

Hi, I will start by saying I am no tactician so this is just my observation and opinion of the data you have provided based on my own personal experience of playing FM for a very long time.

I see a few issues with your tactic which makes sense to me that you struggle against quality opposition.

Your players clearly have the quality to overpower the lesser quality opposition but when it comes to teams of equal or greater quality than your own then every single player must be performing at their best or as close as possible to this.

The issue I see is you play a formation and tactical instructions that funnel all your most creative players into the same area of the pitch.  I'm sure when you watch the matches they all seem to be on top of each other?  The main issues are your Instructions to play narrow with 2x central mids, 2x IF, 1x AP and 1x striker.  This has all your most creative players playing on top of eachother with no room or space to move into because you aren't allowing them too.  On top of this your playing a slow tempo, control and high defensive line so again all your players are playing so close on top of each other there is no players in wide positions or further up the pitch to provide options to spread the ball.  The slow tempo will be taking any urgency out of your players desire to make that decisive quick pass forward and even if they do, there won't be a player available in the correct position to harm a quality side.

I would suggest playing either an attacking style or counter attacking, the latter may suit your players better.  Change the tempo to normal and your width to balanced.  If you play with 2x IF then include "look for overlap" in your instructions too.  Change your passing to mixed also if your IF's are that good too.  If your playing quality opposition with a solid defense you may need to consider dropping your AP for a second striker and consider playing one of your central midfielders as an AP from the middle of the park.

Hope this helps but this is just my thoughts and I'm certainly not claiming this is the best answer to your problems but it is what I would do.

Best of luck my friend

Hi Massey127,

Thank you so much for your reply.

You said changing passing to mixed did you mean passing focus because i already have my passing style set to mixed. The reason i have my passing focus on central is because i want my poacher to be my main scorer. And can you electorate a bit more on the part where you said to have a second striker, what should his role be and what will be the formation/ and or tactical instructions should i have.

Kind Regards,

Hieberflab

Off topic AWFULL final yesterday ;)!

On topic, your IFs most be great in shooting too ( Iwobi is good, but not great ;)

When the big teams beat you, are you in control of the game or do they really beat you ?

They really beat me, my attacking midfielder gets tackled as soon as  they get near their goal and my lone striker doesn’t get the ball most of the time from my AP, he scores occasionally from corners and free kicks.

My suggestions to you:

- change P to AF and DLP to BWM

- play fast pace because you have good players so they can play fast and well. Use slow when you're up 2 or 3 goals. So you can rest some players.

- use look for overlap so your IFs can go further and score more.

- play balanced mentally against big teams. Use attacking against small teams.

Hope it helps 👌

Who did you sign/sell first season

1st season

Sold: Ramsey, Ozil, Lichtenstein, Cech, Monreal, Koscielny, Aubameyang.

Bought: Ghoulam, Meuneir, Thauvin.

2nd season

Sold: Lacazette, Meuneir

Bought: Morata, Vrsaljko, Celso, Rafinha (free transfer).

I basically sold the players who has reached their peak to get some cash out of them. Also those who has low Aerial ability because i want players to win aerial duels.

Not every game, no. But can you tell me why i get that? Because of my player role, the width of my formation? My player is not good enough?

My advice would be to ignore the match reports mate, just focus on the results. You'll always have negative feedback and tbh most the time it's nonsense.

If it really bothers you though going to short passing might see you Lee possession more and I'd turn off throughballs as that means you're encouraging riskier passes.

I have a question about the Final third attacking instructions. If i do not, say for example, select any of the options what does it mean? Like i use IF but I didn’t select look for overlap but early crosses is not selected either. Does it mean the player will just do both? Or neither at all?

Your guess is as good as ours for most of it mate. My take is if you select those options your players will just do them more often, as they'll do all the options regardless as that's football. Having none selected I guess leaves it up to the players to decide more? We really don't know.

There's so many different variables to consider, that it's hard to say without experimenting with tactics and formation until it suits the players you have.

But I notice you're losing a lot of big matches on away or neutral ground. Depending on what the pre-game odds are for those matches, I'd set the team up with either a balanced or counter-attacking mentality, with the advanced playmaker dropped for a physically strong player in the defensive midfielder position, who can play as a ball winner or anchor (since you already have a deep lying playmaker he can pass to). If you're counter attacking, set tempo to fast and through balls on.

On home soil, you seem to be doing fine but I agree with Ashez in turning off through balls if you want to keep possession. If you want even more possession, perhaps switch it to run with ball and/or work into box. Look for overlap if you're struggling to break their defense. Shoot on sight, attacking, and faster tempo if you're desperate for that win.

If you want your poacher to be the main scorer, I would replace your inside forwards with advanced playmakers or wingers. If he's still struggling to see enough of the ball, maybe change his role to something more supportive, like advanced forward, or target man. He'll be more involved in the build up of play but will end up with more assists to your inside forwards than goals.

Edit: forgot to mention, on big away games, best not to play with a high defensive line and switch your wingbacks to defensive fullbacks to negate their attacking wingers.
