Career North Vs South: The Race to 1k

Recommended Posts

Season 3 - The South

Firstly, I’d like to apologise to @Foxy, @Woody, and @1759 (Ian) for taking ages to play my season. I opted to play this on my tablet as its ‘easier’ to transfer to and from Dropbox, and then personal reasons meant I couldn’t get the time to play. I will transfer to my iPhone next time as I get to play that more often, as evidenced by a career I’ll be posting soon. I hate committing to something and letting people down. Sorry lads!

Anyhow, now that’s out of the way, how’d I do?

Well, Woody had an amazing round. He slapped in 60 goals. Incredible. I needed 45+ to maintain our lead.

We started with a frankly pathetic £39m to spend on players.

That’s our reward for qualifying for two seasons in the Champs League and Foxy winning the title last year. Foxy signed a few decent players on bosman for me to sell for transfer funds, which helped add to the kitty.

I tried to be clinical with signings coming in. The striker I opted for was this man:

FF794C4C-D22D-4176-913C-5BFC768DF59C.thumb.png.87a9b123ec96d10ad025da7fcb956a52.pngDA0125B5-9CF6-4883-B4A3-69688F93E760.thumb.png.d4ee3ec1c715dab23cb8d1dc496fb44f.png

John Guidetti. Not the best, but we want this save to be fun and interesting and he had good greens in most areas.

Other players joining were players signed to add depth and improve over the next few seasons. Dilrosun, Arthur, Soler, and Upa should fulfil this.

Our first game of note was the Supercup against Bayern. It was a game we won on penalties after getting the better of the game.

The season went okay. I’m not going to pretend it went as well as Foxy’s, but it wasn’t terrible.

We got knocked out of the quarters of the cup, where I forgot to take a screenshot. As per my previous season, squad rotation did play a big factor towards the end.

After getting through the Group of Death in the Champs Cup...

...we got knocked out against the run of play against Inter.

We dominated the game, but sadly the away goals in first leg result went against us.

As for the league, I couldn’t follow Foxy in winning it. Instead we came second.

This is how Guidetti looked at the end:

£65m of striker. It should help towards a good transfer kitty for next season.

As for his goals, he got 47 in 44 games. He started very slowly, but then I made a tactical switch and he improved massively.

That still leaves us in the lead by just 3 goals...

Over to Foxy and Ian for the next season.

North
Season 1 - Woody: Oliver Burke - Scotland: 34 goals in 46 games.
Season 2 - Ian: Mariano - Dominican Republic: 55 goals in 49 games.
Season 3 - Woody: Alexander Mitrovic - Serbian: 60 goals in 51 games

Total so far : 149 goals in 146 games

South
Season 1 - Rob: Moussa Marega - Mali: 53 goals in 49 games.
Season 2 - Foxy: Davie Selke - Germany: 52 goals in 45 games
Season 3 - Rob: John Guidetti - Sweden - 47 goals in 44 games

Total so far: 152 goals in 138 games

So far the South lead by 3 goals.

Looks like it was a tough season but I’m glad you little tactical switch helped in the end and we still have the lead albeit just.

Liking the look of some of your signings as well 😀

Thanks @Foxy. I think over the next two seasons we should kick on.

I like to think of this battle as the third leg of the Tennis/Cricket/Vibe sporting extravaganza.

Over a goal a game is good going for me at this stage.

It’s looking like it’s going to be a closely fought battle.

I’ll make a start on my season tomorrow.

Season 4 - The South

I am back with my 2nd season in this save and I was hoping for a good season so that I could keep those pesky Northerners @Woody and @Ian at bay.

@Rob has left me with some more excellent players such as Upamecano and Dilrosun but there was still work to be done so let’s get into what was a busy couple of transfer windows.

Transfers Out

I inherited a big squad but that was in part by design from Rob as it meant I had some players I could use to raise much needed funds for the club. I did just that as I sold over £160m worth of players and that money added to the £100m in wage and transfer budget I already had.

Little bug in the list but Rebic actually went to St Etienne.

D17AF6A3-D6E0-4B9B-B54F-AAD02DC548B5.thumb.jpeg.304a00cdf3f06416a422e5f5d974883c.jpegCEECBB1C-6741-4188-8FD8-C25DF694109F.thumb.jpeg.2291bd8aea1399b27633db104835e070.jpeg

Transfers In

My intention was to splash the cash on a striker but I actually didn’t need to spend all that much as Divock Origi was sitting on the transfer list and what I hope will be a bargain price of £27m as well.

That means my main man wasn’t my biggest spend as I splashed more on improving the CM positions with Haidara and Ndidi and then a LB in Telles and a RW in Oztunali also joined for more than the Div.

7853F0BC-6C5B-4EFC-AE01-0BB8D87C252C.thumb.jpeg.56dda2eee19f4905d358560ab5b16823.jpeg7653AFE5-ADEE-4C3D-A8F8-4D56E75EAF3A.thumb.jpeg.fc904504a390774803e024140166de69.jpeg

So over £100m invested into the squad but could that money translate into results on the pitch?

Well certainly not to start with as Bayern put me back in my place in the opening game of the season and lifted the Super Cup.

2BC9E0AC-F3AC-4E6A-BF0D-BFB61576F8EE.thumb.png.aaa860cb511e8f98559ec5a2de8911f4.png

That really was one of the few blogs on what was an excellent season though. We got revenge on Bayern by beating them in the German Cup final with Div getting two.

In the league we swept all before us as we never lost a game and only dropped 8 points in total. I would have liked to see us score more than 80 goals though and it was a stubborn defence that made us unbeatable.

The one I really wanted was the Champions League though and after beating Juve and Spurs in the group stage I felt confident we could have a run in the competition.

It took penalties to despatch Liverpool in the 1st KO round.

A trip to the Bernabeu is never easy though and we suffered our 3rd defeat of the season.

It was just enough to make the final though!

In the final we took on Man City and in a tight game it was Ndidi that made the difference in extra time.

So that just leaves me to reveal how Origi got on. As you saw we weren’t prolific in the league but Divock actually accounted for more than half those goals so I think my tactic worked well in terms of not losing too many other goals to different players.

In the end he had 67 goals which is a decent return but whether it is enough to keep myself and Rob in the lead I don’t know.

Brilliant season Mr Fox and I have a lot to live up to now.

When I found out earlier in the week you’d gone for a Belgian I had a possible two or three players in mind but had a sneaky feeling it’d be Origi as you’d previously mentioned him performing well in your gegenpressing tactic testing.

Anyway that’s a great return from him and the team and I’ll have my update up tomorrow evening so we can see if I’ve managed to keep up with the pace.

The Nasty North - Season Four

After @Foxy produced a great season four for the South the pressure is put onto me to at least keep up the pace with a decent return.

Player Choice - Yussuf Poulsen

There were a few players to pick from and this guy wasn’t actually my first choice as my preferred player wanted too high a wage and I couldn’t toggle our budget enough to get him. Before you ask yes I do realise he’s only got 13 for shooting but it was originally 14 and dropped to 13 upon signing which was a bit of a shitter. He does have great attributes elsewhere though and his stamina of 17 just pulled me in as that combined with him being at the peak of his powers at 27 years old should hopefully mean a high amount of game time which always helps.

Transfers

We couldn’t get the fee I’d like for the big Serbian and he wasn’t available as a part exchange option for Poulsen so had to make do with £45m from Juventus and I can just picture him in the Juve kit giving defenders hell over in Italy. It took a whopping £48m to acquire Poulsen but we had the funds so I went with it. @Woody had done a great job in scouting for players with expiring contracts so there’s a few great players who came in for free. Wingers Wolf and Tsygankov had become squad outcasts and after debating it we decided to just sell so I used those two as part exchange options to bring in Davies and Maina as replacements.

Full list of transfers below.

Facilities

I managed to persuade the board to further increase our facilities at the beginning of the season so that’s them maxed out now which should help us with player development in the future.

Team Performances

We started the season against Bayern in the Super Cup and made hard work of it but Pavón managed to get what would eventually be the winning goal. He did suffer an injury also but luckily it was only a short layoff.

Yussuf scored a nice hat trick in the semi final of the Club World Championship and followed that up with a brace in the final which kind of made up for his poor showing in the other tinpot cups.

At the halfway stage we were in a commanding position in the league having only drawn one match and conceding just four goals.

Poulsen had 40 goals in 27 games at this stage and I’m guessing we now have a couple of nervous southerners in @Rob and @Foxy looking on as if he could keep this up we’d be looking at a 70-80 goal season which would put the north well into the lead.

The Champions League went well enough and we found ourselves in a mouth water semi final tie against Barcelona. The first leg at home went totally to plan as we knocked in five goals with Poulsen getting two of them.

The second leg was a tight affair but once Pavón got the away goal after half an hour I was confident of victory. We lost the game 3-1 as Messi netted a second half brace but it just wasn’t enough so we found ourselves back in the final where Bayern would be our opponents.

Before the Champions League tie we had another final to play out in the German Cup where funnily enough Bayern were also our opposition so this would make a great dress rehearsal. Anyway we hammered them but couldn’t convert our chances so had to make do with a 2-0 win and it was Poulsen who had an off day in front of goal which was disappointing.

After dominating the German Cup game I was confident going into the Champions League final but of course the Champions League is a different ball game and Bayern came out flying and got themselves an early goal. I felt I had to switch to my second tactic at half time and it proved to be an good decision as we dominated the second half and won the game 3-1 with the main man getting the decisive goal.

The league finished up with us comfortable winners having only drawn 4 games. Poulsen ended up as top league scorer having scored more than the players in second and third place combined so it’s safe to say he was the stand out player in Germany this season.

Yussuf Poulsen

No change in attributes as you’d expect with him being 27 years old.

How did he perform?

After scoring 40 goals at the halfway stage you’ll probably be expecting a really high total here but unfortunately he couldn’t maintain that kind of form and ended up on 68 goals in 55 games. The total is one goal higher than @Foxy‘s but he played in more games which shows that my decision to use him based on his stamina probably proved to be a good one. I’d also say he hasn’t done too bad for a striker with 17 for teamwork.😉

Well that’s season four from the North revealed and I’ll pass the save onto my colleague @Woody shortly who will play out season five. The South are still in the lead but it’s not a great lead and I expect they’ll be looking over their shoulders.

North

Season 1 - Woody: Oliver Burke - Scotland: 34 goals in 46 games.

Season 2 - Ian: Mariano - Dominican Republic: 55 goals in 49 games.

Season 3 - Woody: Alexander Mitrovic - Serbia: 60 goals in 51 games

Season 4 - Ian: Yussuf Poulsen - Denmark: 68 goals in 55 games

Total so far: 217 goals in 201 games

South

Season 1 - Rob: Moussa Marega - Mali: 53 goals in 49 games.

Season 2 - Foxy: Davie Selke - Germany: 52 goals in 45 games

Season 3 - Rob: John Guidetti - Sweden: 47 goals in 44 game

Season 4 - Foxy: Divock Origi - Belgium: 67 goals in 52 games

Excellent season.

Funnily enough Origi had 38 goals at the halfway stage and then just like you didn’t build on it as well as I thought he would in the 2nd part of the season.

Thank you Mr Fox, I think the goals my guy got in the World Club tinpot special upped what he was actually capable of so his return in the end was more than fine with me.

Just caught up with this, great reading and some fantastic seasons!

I’ve also found my form faltering in the second half of the season after a storming start. I've generally put it down to the amount of fixtures building up and playing my guys at less than 100% fitness.

Superb Ian. What a cracking season especially defensively.

Poulsen was beastly.

Sorry im reading this today as cant get any data signal in Windemere. Bloody rubbish.

Yeah I’ve noticed that too and it almost feels like once you move over to January the players have much more trouble with their fitness. Poulsen was the best player I’ve had in that regard as he was like a tank and never got jaded once.

Cheers Woody, don’t worry there’s a few places up here in Northumberland that’s still like that. Craster is one where I don’t even think you can get a phone signal on any network never mind internet.😂

The Mighty North: Woody's 3rd Season.

Morning all, posting abit later than expected but i'm here to put thise pesky Southerners under pressure....or am i!??

I decided that this round was perfect for me to use a player i have used before but never to this degree. A solid enough striker who has experience of playing in the German league who i knew would do me a sound job.

I chose an American for the job and plumped for this fellow.

Spoiler

Haji Wright

I got him for a cool £40m.

Everything i needed in the striker i want although his stamina could of been better.

Transfers.

I didnt make a move into the market this year as we have a really good squad of players and some talented youngsters.

I did sign my striker of course and a free transfer but he was only for resale value.

A few player coming on frees in the summer window for Ian to devide wether he wants to keep or sell.

Also Poulsen didnt leave as no one came in with any offers. Id offered him out so many times but nobody bit.

Hopefully Ian can to get sell him.

A storming victory with Haji proving once again the man for finals.

So a fairly good season for trophys there but how did we do in the league.

Spoiler

An undefeated season is great in my book. Little disappointed in the goals scored but as the Liverpool final showed we struggled to convert chances after the winter break.

I've been wanting to use Haji on a save for a while so snapping him up for this save was the opportunity i needed.

So again this is how he looked at the end of the season.

Screenshot_2019-07-27-09-38-04.thumb.png.1ed6298aead7f732a7c102d9b15a00f6.png

As you can see he had performed quite well with an 8.27 rating.

But did those performances transfer in goals. Well by christmas he had hit 30 so i was more than confidant that we could atleast match the 60 from Mitro.

Unfortunately injuries hit Haji for most of the 2nd half of the season and he missed quite alot of games and he only played in 44 games in the end.

Those lack of games cost me as he only reached 53 goals.

Im really gutted at how the 2nd half went for Haji but thats the way this game goes sometimes.

The save will now pass over to Ian.

Excellent season and you can see that baring injuries he’d have smashed a fantastic total but as you say thats how it goes sometimes. I got lucky with Poulsen In that regard as he was a tank.

It would’ve been truly ridiculous if you’d have lost that shootout to Liverpool though, what a hammering.😂
