Foxy the Promotion Hunter: Introduction

Welcome to what will be my final save on FMM19.

At the moment I have 6 promotions on the Neil Warnock Challenge leaderboard which is 2 promotions with Oxford, 1 with Sunderland in the VWC final and then 3 promotions in my Rogue save.

That puts me 9 promotions from @Mr Tree at the top of the leaderboard and I doubt I will be challenging that total unless I really get into this save in a big way and I’m very successful.

So who will I be managing I hear no one cry!

The easiest thing to do would be to take over a Conference North/South team and then bring them up the leagues to the Premier League and then doing that again. Once you get a club up once it is usually pretty easy to keep getting successive promotions but that’s not how I’m going to play this.

My plan is to start unemployed and try and get a job for season 1 at whichever club will have me. I will then only spend one season at every club I manage so I have to build a squad to challenge straight away and hit the ground running if I want to get that club promoted. At the end of the season whether I get them promoted or not I will resign and look to get a new job.

This save will be exclusively played in England and I have loaded all 6 levels so plenty of clubs to try and get employed by during this save. I only have a local reputation though which may mean I spend the save right down in the lower leagues unless that gets boosted.

At the start of the save there is only two jobs available.

I’m not sure if Luton or Bradford will look at me with my local rep but it should start a managerial merry go round which will then hopefully lead to a job for me before the season starts.

I hope you will follow my journey as I trawl the lower leagues looking for success.

Sounds like a fun one. I tend to end up doing 1KCs all the time, but my first FMM19 career was the Long Way To The Top one with Macclesfield and that was really enjoyable. Good luck mate!

@Lord Danish @Ian @Rob @Woody @shosky

Thanks for the good luck messages :)

@Kanegan I might have some scores for that challenge although I won’t be putting much emphasis on winning any cups or international management.

@Scratch I remember your Macclesfield save as it was a fun one and it’s funny that you should mention that particular club...

@Mr Tree I think you can sleep easy as I doubt I will be challenging your top spot on the promotions leaderboard.

Umm... Should I be expecting this as a future trivia question: "What do Foxy, Scratch and Sol Campbell have in common"? 😄

Three of the greatest minds in football is what we have in common.

Obviously... And we've all been turned down for the Us job... Shocking! 😂

Season 1

As I said in the OP there was only the Luton and Bradford jobs available to me at the start of the save and despite applying for both they weren’t interested. What did happen though was managers left other clubs to join them and a merry go round started leading me to get offered the Morecambe job.

I actually didn’t takeover until after the season had started and they had already beaten Crewe but then been hammered 3-0 by Exeter.

I had 15 days to ship out the rubbish and try and get some quality into the squad and I wasn’t that successful moving players on with only three leaving during the season.

I managed to sign 10 players before the summer window shut and then I added Baptiste and Ro-Shaun in January to try and add some more much needed quality at the back and in midfield.

This season wasn’t all plain sailing as we struggled for some consistency through the season. Just as I thought we would be putting a run together we would go and drop more points somewhere along the way and we particularly struggled to keep goals out.

A few notable results

Spoiler

1st win in charge in my 4th match.

The match that cost us the League Two title

The Final Table

Spoiler

We got the job done and got the promotion.

All through the season it was between ourselves, MK and Lincoln as to who would win the title but it was that loss to MK that ultimately cost us as we finished 2 points behind them. Although we got 91 points it seemed much harder work as we really had to grind out a lot of results and it always seemed a slip up was just round the corner especially against the poorer teams.

In the end it was job done though.

 Top Performers

Spoiler

Top Scorer with 32 goals was Vadaine Oliver who really doesn’t look up to much and I tried to sell but once he got into the team after a couple of matches he couldn’t stop scoring.

Top assister was Josh McQuoid who joined on a free transfer and played most of the season as a right winger.

Top defender and 2nd top AvR below Oliver was Ro-Shaun Williams who came in January on loan and did make us more solid at the back.

Manager Profile and Trophy Cabinet

Spoiler

I still have a local reputation which isn’t a big surprise after only one season but it means League Two will probably be the best I can hope for.

All that was left to do was resign at the end of the season and start the search for my next club and promotion.

Excellent job of getting the squad together which must be tough going when the season has already begun.

I look forward to your next season and seeing what club you end up at.

Thanks mate.

It mad for an interesting start and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that I didn’t win in my first 3 games but one the squad was build I won 7 of the next 8 matches.

I just imagine myself with big headache putting this squad together. Great start 👏

It was pretty fun actually especially knowing that I had to get it done quickly before the window starts. If you think I did a lot of transfers this season just wait till you see season 2!!!

Should have made better use of the loan market. Just the 8 loan signings. Cost you the title.

That’s good advice except that the quality loan players have to be available, affordable and willing to join in order to get more than the paltry 8 that I did get.

This should be a challenge in itself.

Kind of like the Neil Warnock challenge but having to resign at the end of each season, promoted or not. How many promotions at end of career or however long you can handle without being driven insane...

The only stat that counts at the end of each season is Promoted: Yes/No.

Great job mate, especially with that short transfer window to build the squad. Can't wait to see where you turn up next...

Thanks and I’m hoping to get the update out tonight so not too long to wait.

I have been thinking the same and I might have two Warnock leaderboards for FMM20 with one for just promotions and one for this type of save.
