Help Limit to Players in Reserve Team?

Apologies for the noob question, but is there a limit to the number of players allowed in a reserve team? 

Cause im hoarding a ton of youngsters there and loaning them out, and at some point I seemed to be unable to demote any more players down to the reserves.

The first team squad has a limit of 40, I imagine it's the same for the reserves but never reached it myself
