Career Oz Golden Generation Reborn: 2KC Goals / 1KC Assists [S12]

Update - Season 7

We had an excellent season last time around, with 121 goals for Henderson and 96 assists for Arzani. Can we replicate that?

Actually, I'd be happy with 80 assists for Arzani (even I don't think 96 is a realistic number to hit regularly), but Henderson needs to get 120 goals.

Transfers

It looks like I made loads of transfers again this year, but it's mostly loans out and young Aussies coming and going:

Spoiler

oz-season07-27.jpg.073a2a6e15b67d2cfbd5833ccbf91be9.jpg

There were really only two big transfers:

  • (Zlatan) Olsson wanted a new contract, but didn't think we could pay enough (ie he wanted "-"). I wanted to keep him, but we have other good back up strikers, so we let him leave.

  • Donnarumma was available on a free. I didn't really need him, but how could I walk past that? He got a bit confused though and turned up in January, instead of waiting until the end of the season. I believe there are "Keeper Missing" signs all over Milan.

Tactics

No update this time (or probably after this). I've outlined my tactics and I'm unlikely to change them, so nothing much to say.

Club Results

We won everything on offer again this year:

oz-season07-23.jpg.8bb34a728e311ba49eca281e62167706.jpg

Here is the Champions League final:

oz-season07-21.jpg.a2d622bceca9e07a28eca5751d6d86d5.jpg

ITN Results

The Confederations Cup was held at the end of the season and we made it through the group, losing to Spain, but beating Argentina and Canada. That set us up with a clash against the old enemy, England. It was a match for the ages - England prevailing 5-4, with the winner from Harry Kane coming in the 125th minute:

oz-season07-40.jpg.563d436608fe43b709cb6c72dfca2a6e.jpg

We won the third place playoff against USA on penalties after it ended goalless.

We're still building this team and we'll be back better and stronger than ever. Then there will be some payback for England...

Development

No movement from Arzani:

oz-season07-37.jpg.85a627b6a2cfc103fa49bf2a43a838ae.jpg

Henderson has also finished development now (orange bar, no movement at all after games):

oz-season07-35.jpg.ee7e155b0c09f1d97c23ab806486cb4e.jpg

I really wanted Henderson to get Movement of 20, but I guess he still looks pretty good.

Injuries

Arzani's luck ran out, getting a month long injury:

oz-season07-14.jpg.abb9dc576d95eb682f6b2403973f841a.jpg

Henderson only had a 10 day injury this year:

oz-season07-16.jpg.09cb2de26f97a813144a1cb90ce4388f.jpg

Assists

Arzani played less games this year due to the injury, so repeating the 96 wasn't ever going to happen. He came close to my target of 80 however, making 77 assists from 50 games:

oz-season07-38.jpg.5e4373003e334011ca0c15e3ab320728.jpg

I'm pretty happy with that, as it shows the 96 wasn't a total fluke and he will probably be around that if he plays a full season.

Club Goals

Henderson scored 6 goals in a game this year (I think the first time):

Spoiler

oz-season07-12.jpg.54b667d61cec2dcdaefc177606037e3a.jpg

However, we're 4 seasons in now and Henderson hasn't managed to play 50 games in a season yet. He gets tired, feels the pressure of first team football etc (even though he's World Footballer of the Year), so I need to rest him a bit.

In the latest version of the game that would cripple him, but in the pre-winter update version he can push through that and do pretty well - in fact he manged to to score 101 goals from 48 games:

oz-season07-36.jpg.4687aa14b82f59919f554bb80726d176.jpg

He's 20 now, so should be through the tiredness and pressure stuff soon. Then we'll see what he can really achieve!

ITN Goals

This season Henderson scored 26 goals in 13 games. Screenshots of end of this season and last season:

The Future

Both players are doing well and look to be on track - but they need to keep doing this each and every year and there is not much margin for error. Next year, I want Arzani to push towards 90 assists and I want Henderson to score 130 goals. We'll have to see if they can stay injury free, which is surely the only obstacle. 🤞

Awesome season again mate, an injury free season and you should definitely hit those higher targets you have set.

So unlucky with that Kane winner in Confeds Cup - 5mins of injury time in extra time!

Thanks mate. I'm relatively happy with the injuries so far - they will happen from time to time and these weren't too long. I've had a couple of long ones in my squad (11 months, 8 months), just glad it wasn't the main two lads...

EDIT: Forgot to talk about that Confederations Cup result - I've been trying to forget it. 😄 England were attacking us and I was watching the time, waiting for penalties and it kept going up and up, way beyond what's normal for extra time. The the goal came - couldn't believe it. I can't say what I really think about the timekeeping though, or I'll get fined...

Still very very good numbers. Agree, tactics wise I wouldn't touch a thing.

Just hope they remain injury free and keep em rolling otherwise 👍

Thanks mate. Yep, we've reached the part of the save where it's rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat, until you die of boredom! 😄

Well not quite, still need to build up the Australia squad, that's a little interesting...

Out of curiosity, in general, do you focus the training on keeping 20s a 20, do you focus on the lowest primary attribute, pick one of the secondary attributes, or just up the stamina?

You mean now they are maxed out? To be honest I don't worry about it much until they start to decline and then it is Stamina. But in the meantime they aren't going to improve or decline (except sometimes via injury), so I figure it's not doing much behind the scenes, so doesn't matter what it's set to.

That said, I'm gonna set it to Stamina for both of them, because although their normal 'upgrades' are finished, they may still get the Fitness coach boost. Not sure if that happens for 'finished players' but worth a try! Thanks for making me think of that!

Update - Season 8

Interesting season! Got off to a slow start, with neither player really hitting their mark early on, but both ramped it up in the second half. Could they match their previous bests?

And then there was the World Cup, which added a bit of interest as well. Could Australia go all the way?

Read on for the answers....

Transfers

Once again it looks a lot busier than it was, with lots of loans out and young Aussies coming and going:

Nothing much to mention coming in, but there were two big departures: Palacios and Mac Allister, the last remaining midfield players from the first season's intake. They were both very good, but the next gen forced them out. A salute to Mac Allister, an honorary Scot by name, if not by nationality:

Club Results

We won most things this year (won every game in the League, with a 131 goal difference!):

oz-season08-19.jpg.d1ade8494db9c8dd0a48bd2092f0ea38.jpg

But there was one thing we missed - we lost the Champions League final to Real Madrid on penalties after it finished 1-1:

oz-season08-18.jpg.0a5a2bb137d7096887b3869936d74236.jpg

Missing the penalties for us were the regens of Messi, Rooney and Xavi... I guess I should share penalties around instead of letting Henderson hog them all. The other lads clearly need some more experience.

ITN Results

The World Cup rolled around and I was keep to see how we'd measure up.

This is clearly the best Australian team ever, with Henderson, Arzani and Tweneboa (Essien's regen) head and shoulder above any other Aussie player in history... We also have a bunch of young players who have been supercharged by access to our staff and facilities. I'm sure their attributes are far higher than their actual ability, but they are still great options.

Would it be enough to win the World Cup? The answer is contained within:

Spoiler

We got through the group stage easy enough, swatting aside Sweden and South Africa.

oz-season08-38.jpg.f5e59ee4eb7d350219d7013c9cd0ba5c.jpg

We then beat Romania 5-0 in the second round:

oz-season08-39.jpg.7c457380ebe48395bb04f547870fe8a8.jpg

Mexico 2-1 in the third round:

oz-season08-41.jpg.9aa48f0cd90db545241b5950ce9c1f48.jpg

And Spain 2-0 in the Quarter Final (went to extra time but we dominated with 63% of the possession and 23 shots to 5):

oz-season08-43.jpg.34eeb3d4d5909d254751cf804032a0b1.jpg

Looking alright hey? Surely we're a good chance to win it lads! Who's our next victim?

Oh... Italy... The same team who knocked our original Golden Generation out of the 2006 World Cup, with an extremely poor refereeing decision giving them a penalty in the dying seconds of the second round game. They couldn't break our hearts again, could they?

oz-season08-44.jpg.1f7653e7611a516311a308551c970f4d.jpg

Sure enough we had the better of the game, but couldn't score against them and they progress to the final instead of us. We spanked Wales in the third place playoff game though, for our second 3rd place in a year (after last years Confederation Cup).

oz-season08-45.jpg.3fa0bcdaf363a7adeabdf82d0d8afe3c.jpg

Development

Arzani the same:

oz-season08-35.jpg.4a200d54116ab88373b4b577403502c4.jpg

Henderson had some surprising further improvement:

oz-season08-33.jpg.b152b9db8fe7bbb1196ca2b5c5e95156.jpg

And I mean surprising. Every time I think I'm on top of how development works, something happens that I can't explain. Henderson had the yellow bar in the training screen and wasn't getting any points after games, even at the highest level, so I was sure he was maxed out. Then this!

Maybe it's from a coach's influence, but he wasn't listed under any of the coaches. Or perhaps he was listed, but had been removed by the time I noticed this. Perhaps it's because I changed his training position from AF to Poacher and it rearranged his attributes (but he'd been training as Poacher for a while).

I have no idea... Which annoys me, even though I should be happy.

Injuries

Arzani had an injury, but I forget to screenshot it (first time ever!). He missed 4 or 5 games though.

Henderson had a short injury as well as a ghost injury (which made him miss about 3 games):

oz-season08-10.jpg.6994b512d4d94783f8f0dd30a46769d8.jpg

We also had a 6 month and a 4 month injury in the squad this year, so the boys were lucky to avoid that sort of injury.

Assists

Arzani provided 90 assists from 59 games:

oz-season08-36.jpg.ccbb3373949905a86d70ab4359bc3a24.jpg

The rate has been fairly consistent for 3 years now, so I hope he keeps it up. He's 27 now, so at the top of his game.

Club Goals

Henderson scored 110 goals from 50 games:

oz-season08-34.jpg.7867e75ef9de2a30e6ad188962c73cff.jpg

He made it to 50 games for the first time (no longer pressured by first team football, but still gets tired a lot) and got his best ever ratio (2.2 GpG).

ITN Goals

This season Henderson scored 22 goals in 13 games. Screenshots of end of this season and last season:

Total 531 / 1000 453 99 552 / 2000

Arzani is more than half way there after 8 seasons. At 27 years old he should be able to play another 8 seasons and get to the 1K line.

Henderson is a quarter of the way to 2K goals, after 5 seasons. He just turned 21, so has plenty of time in front of him. That said, it seems like there is still a long way in front of us and he'll have to go 20+ seasons to make it.

The Future

Both players hit their targets this year and really it's more of the same from here on out. Hopefully Henderson can lift the rate a little as he matures - that would make me a little more comfortable on the 2K front.

Your guys are progressing nicely there. My guess re Henderson's "sudden" improvement is perhaps due to him getting a year older and more experienced. I've had players on their max to then improve only days after their birthday, so maybe it's that.

Keep that GPG under 3, pls or I'm throwing in the towel 😂

Yeah, that matches, I noticed the improvement not long after his birthday. Nice birthday gift... Thanks, now I'll be able to sleep tonight!

The GpG not going to make it to 3. I reckon I will max out at about 2.8. 😄

Update - Season 9

So far the lads have been going from strength to strength.

Surely sooner or later there has to be a season that can be considered a blip - an substantial injury, a loss of form, the break down of the tactic, or something else?

I think that's bound to happen eventually. The question is whether this is the season it'll happen... And whether it will be a big one or a little one...

Transfers

Here are the transfers for this season:

Spoiler

oz-season09-26.jpg.6ea4c23e7a2d13f7b56d317848b5443d.jpg

oz-season09-30.jpg.472e57c48a413ad1614dcaf90970d921.jpg

Nothing much to mention with the departures - we just got rid of a few fringe players. We still have way too many players on our books, as evidenced by the huge list of loans out. Might be time to clear some out next year.

Nothing much to mention with incoming players either - a few promising youngsters and that's it.

Club Results

We won everything on offer this year:

oz-season09-25.jpg.cc6900875accdae22f7d8f2040d817de.jpg

We reclaimed the Champions League, though it was cracker of a game, needing a 91st minute winner from Henderson to beat Man Utd 4-3:

ITN Results

The Asian Cup was this year. I left Arzani out of the squad because we couldn't afford him to miss a month's worth of club games when ITN assists don't count towards his 1KC.

It's not like we really needed him. The group stage pitted us against Lebanon, North Korea and Saudi Arabia, which didn't present us with any difficulties. The only two games that challenged us were South Korea in the semi final and Japan in the final and both of those were straightforward.

Spoiler

We're also back to the start of the World Cup qualifying process, with the first of two group stages giving us Cambodia, Lebanon, Malaysia and Vietnam. Likely to be some goals there...

Injuries and Suspension

No dramas here. Arzani had an injury, but it was only a 10 day one. Henderson meanwhile finally made it through a season without an injury, but he did get a red card.

Development

Arzani the same, apart from a small bump in his Leadership skills:

oz-season09-37.jpg.8c8d5c3a926fbd754218206fc60a0a4e.jpg

Henderson the same, apart from a 2 point increase in Aggression (up to 20 now):

oz-season09-35.jpg.dd9ba915a771736ab9d1f6ae43cf16d9.jpg

The increase in Aggression came around the same time he got sent off. Maybe that unlocked some repressed rage in him? Or maybe it happened first and the red card was the result? Either way, we'll have to see if the red card is a once off or if it will happen more often now.

Assists

Arzani provided 82 assists from 58 games:

oz-season09-38.jpg.a3aa24d0303e59404f6d1d4023acdb1b.jpg

The rate dropped slightly for the first time in years, but it's still a good return.

Club Goals

And here's the blip... Henderson scored 81 goals from 42 games:

oz-season09-36.jpg.bdfedeb98d4f19d730465bba99d7a916.jpg

He dropped below the 2 Goals per Game ratio after three years above that. Still a good return, but he's 22 now and should be ramping things up, not going backwards.

But as far as blips go, it's only a minor one. The problem is that I don't understand why it happened. Maybe better team mates? Maybe tougher opponents as the SPL slowly improves? Maybe it's me skipping through games quicker instead of squeezing every last goal out? Could be anything. Or could just be a one off blip.

ITN Goals

Henderson scored 30 goals in 15 games. Screenshots of end of this season and last season:

09 82 81 30 111
Total 613 / 1000 534 129 663 / 2000

Arzani looks to be on track for the 1K. If he can average 60 assists for another 6 seasons (taking him to 34 years old), he should be close enough to stroll over the line. The target at this point is 80 per season, so even accounting for injury and the start of the ageing process, an average of 60 is probably achievable.

Henderson should also make it to his target. He's 22 now, so 10 more seasons averaging 120 goals will leave him only 150 goals away and with plenty of time to get that. That said, he needs to lift his game somewhat. He needs to be hitting that 120 mark each season and dropping below that in an injury free season is not great.

The Future

Arzani just needs to rinse and repeat next year, but Henderson needs to lift his game and make sure he gets to 120 goals next year. I'm hopeful he can do that, but I don't really understand why his rate dropped. Fingers crossed that it was indeed just a blip.

That amount of assist from Arzani 😮! Had just get to use him for the first time in my recent save, and he's brilliant! Great amount of goals from Henderson as always, you will easily smashed the 2k.

Thanks mate!

Yeah, I've been super amazed by Arzani. I've never really gotten above 50/60 asssists per season, so thought this might be impossible, but my tactic seems to work perfectly for this (forces play to the wings) and I'm doing things like not playing a really strong left winger (to stop it going down the left more than it does now). And of course 20 Aerial strikers make this a lot easier in this version. 😄

I've never used Arzani before, but looked at him a few times. He mostly turned out a bit average from what I could tell, but there was one save where he was strong. I guess he is in the age range where PA is variable, so it's luck of the draw. I got a good one though.

Another great season!

It might’ve just been the Asian Cup that hindered Henderson slightly at club level but I wouldn’t be overly concerned as I’m sure he’ll be back with the mega returns soon enough.

Thanks mate. I was probably more worried than I should have been with Henderson, but I just thought I might have messed up the balance somehow. It can be a fine line sometimes. Bring in the wrong player and you lose that edge....

Thanks mate: Yeah, it could have been that. Also the World Cup the year before meant he really didn't get much of a break between seasons. Not quite sure how it works in FMM but I do feel players score more when they are fresh - so hopefully it was only that.

I;m just about to post the next season though, so I know whether he got back to a higher GpG or not! 😄

Update - Season 10

Last year Henderson's scoring rate dropped below 2 Goals per Game. It was only a tiny blip, but I was worried that something (minor tweaking? the mix of players?) had hurt some finely tuned balance that was the key to his avalanche of goals.

No surprise then that this season was all about whether he could get his GpG ratio back to the level he'd previously managed.

Transfers

I bit the bullet this year and cleared out a lot of the extra weight from the squad:

Some real talent went out this year, but they just weren't able to command game time. The best of them was Passlack. Despite only being 29, he had started to degrade a little, although he'd still would walk into any team in the world:

The three players coming in were the regens of Alaba, Neymar and James Rodriguez. We've got such a strong team at this point that I'm not sure whether this lot will make it or not. Gregoritsch (Alaba) is good enough to make the first team squad this year, but the other two will go out on loan.

Club Results

We won everything on offer this year:

And for a change, we cruised to the win in the Champions League Final, with a 4-0 win over Bayern:

ITN Results

Nothing to mention this year. Only a few qualifying games and some friendlies.

Injuries and Suspension

This goes down as our worst season, though honestly, it could have been worse. Arzani suffered two injuries (one for 10 days, one for 3 weeks) and got sent off:

Henderson had just the one injury, but it was a month long injury and it took the wind out of his sales, with him being a little sluggish on his return:

Development

Arzani took a hit following the three week injury. He's very slowly earning some points back, but it's slow progress (maybe 1 or 2% per match). He's now at the age where injuries can have a real impact on his attributes.

oz-season10-48.jpg.b6417fe501de3cb80a57ee2af517a6ae.jpg

Henderson stayed exactly the same:

oz-season10-46.jpg.4290bf0107cd07923bbcb112c45220fd.jpg

Assists

Arzani provided 82 assists from 51 games:

oz-season10-49.jpg.9ece136ea76a178e01b22fb0eb5cdc9a.jpg

He obviously missed a few games this year with the injuries, but his assists per game ratio was the best it's ever been, so I'm very happy with his season.

Club Goals

How did Henderson respond to last year's blip? Like this:

oz-season10-18.jpg.58d15d9e11df8a21b927a504ba102427.jpg

Yes, baby! He's back! He ended up scoring 103 goals from 48 games:

oz-season10-47.jpg.2af3694201ed20158e89817de4527265.jpg

His GpG ratio is back to close to his best and if he hadn't had the injury, this would have been a massive season.

ITN Goals

Henderson scored 12 goals in 7 games. Screenshots of end of this season and last season:

My confidence is back and it's full steam ahead!

Update - Season 11 & 12

I didn't get time to write up season 11 due to some work stuff, so here is a double update.

Transfers

Here are the transfers:

Spoiler

oz-season11-87.jpg.e15c20193d63197b5ed67a9fa76617d2.jpg

Nothing much to see here at this point of the career. We had to sell a couple of outcasted players that we would have kept. The rest were all sold because they weren't quite good enough. Coming in were mostly young Aussies.

Something worrying happened though - the chairman has started selling players without asking me:

oz-season11-01.jpg.ac74ae34ef8fefaa2efc4984d5fb5890.jpg

Greedy b@stard!! It's only happened a couple of times and on both occasions they were reserve players, but I lie awake at night wondering what he'll do if we receive a bid for one of the main lads...

Tactics

I'm still using the same tactics described earlier, but I've started playing the strongest midfielder (Xavi's regen) in the right CM position and lesser players in the left CM and AP roles. He gets 40% to 50% of the midfield possession and that translates into Arzani (RW) getting more touches than the left winger.

Here's an eg game (Henderson out injured):

Spoiler

oz-season11-12.jpg.04a21c150df110bb2e02287ae9e9e060.jpg

I don't think he's getting more assists overall, but I do think he's been more consistent than before (when I swapped players around without considering this) and he's maintained his averages despite aging and despite having better players on the opposite wing than before.

Club Results

We won everything on offer both years:

In the Champions League Final we had a 2-0 win over Juve in season 11, followed by a 3-0 win over PSG in season 12 :

We are pretty much unstoppable now.

ITN Results

We won the Confederations Cup, beating Argentina 2-1 in the final:

Spoiler

oz-season11-58.jpg.9dd1a9f8a82b3cdd8f57d0c47f1c027b.jpg

We've never won the World Cup, but this win, along with consistently good results in other games (mostly wins, the occasional draw), was enough to make us number one in the world.

We went into the 2030 World Cup with high hopes. However, although we can beat any team on our day (and indeed have thrashed some big nations like France and Spain), we couldn't get past Germany in the Quarter Final:

Spoiler

oz-season11-96.jpg.e32a297090ce478c43d06b1e2d60de94.jpg

I really want to win the World Cup, but it's turning out to be really hard. Three failures so far...

Injuries and Suspension

Arzani made it through season 11 without injury, but was out for 3 weeks in season 12:

oz-season11-65.jpg.cf42518c0e8fb0b8a9a048894dfe3614.jpg

Henderson did the opposite: he had a month long injury in season 11, then went injury free in season 12:

oz-season11-11.jpg.de9b64241f5cfd33883f13c996fa73f3.jpg

Development

Arzani now looks like this:

oz-season11-92.jpg.12c101d7dae8c05d59da38f18ff9e3cd.jpg

My season 10 fears were confirmed - the attributes lost to injury never came back. He made 1% or 2% progress after each game, but it took 6 months to get to 100% and then it got stuck there (ie he'd keep earning points each game but it never levelled up, just stayed on 100%).

He also lost a point of Pace, through normal ageing. In addition to that, every so often he loses some progress points - he will be on 100% and then suddenly he'll be back down at 45% or so and then will start climbing back towards 100% (but is never able to level up). It's my first time playing with an aging player with the new training system and it's very enlightening.

Henderson now looks like this:

oz-season11-90.jpg.167131c2b60e08ea7f5e90898e2a5273.jpg

For some reason, he had an increase of 1 for Shooting. I have no idea where that came! I was pretty sure his development was over. You can ignore the -1 on the Passing, it's been going back and forwards between 15 and 16 for years now.

Assists

Arzani provided 87 assists from 61 games in season 11, and 84 assists from 58 games in season 12:

oz-season11-93.jpg.0dd6f0fc0d518449f538b3ce7bd3e234.jpg

The ratio might have dropped slightly, but he's going great for a 31 year old.

Club Goals

Henderson scored 94 goals from 44 games in season 11, and 125 goals from 59 games in season 12:

oz-season11-91.jpg.ed3f143ee5e00fc48dcc10ea74327ca8.jpg

Ticking along nicely!

ITN Goals

Henderson scored 32 goals in 15 games in season 11, and 17 goals in 10 games in season 12. Screenshots of end of season totals:

10 82 103 12 115
11 87 94 32 126
12 84 125 17 142
Total 866 / 1000 856 190 1046 / 2000

Arzani is now only a couple of seasons away from the 1K assists target, while Henderson has powered past the 1K mark (in only 9 seasons!) and is on track for 2K goals.

The Future

Both are lads powering towards their respective targets, but with FMM20 dropping in the next 24 hours, the big question is whether I will continue with this...

I'll certainly be buying FMM20 tomorrow and spending a lot of time in there, so we'll have to see how it works out. My thoughts at the moment are that Arzani is too close to abandon his attempt, but Henderson is probably 8 or 9 seasons away and that might be a stretch too far.
