Help Mentoring

I think there just has to be a few experienced older players in your squad that can play in similar positions to your youngster that will usually show up as mentor options.

If you click the actions button at the bottom righthand side of your youngsters profile and click the find a mentor options button I’ve highlighted below you should see all the player options available as mentors for said player.

I think 24 years old is the cut off point for when a player can no longer be mentored and I’m guessing they could then maybe mentor another player. Can’t be 100% on this though at this stage and others might know better.

Ok. It's just that my 20yr old centre back should be able to be mentored but he doesn't have the option.

Thanks

I thought one of my players had the same problem, but then found that was because he is already being mentored by someone! Pretty confusing (not easy to tell if someone is being mentored).

Ok. Is there a way to find out which youngsters have/are being mentored?

If you click on the training page and then on the little options icon at the top right next to the current date and time, you’ll get the following options pop up on the right side of the screen. Click on the mentoring one and you’ll end up on a page like the second picture below which shows all of the players being mentored.

Hi. What does it take for a young player to have the option to be mentored?

Thanks

Funnily enough, the player who I thought couldn't be mentored was already being mentored 🤣🤣

Yeah I think the game could be a bit clearer with this as if a player is either mentored or mentoring a player then there’s no option available in the players actions section I highlighted last night. I don’t see why in this case there couldn’t be a link to the mentoring section but maybe they’ll add something in later.

Yes it normally shows in the players stats. I would like to think that there will be a report after about how it went. I'll keep you posted.

Is there any evidence that the mentoring actually makes a noticeable difference?

It’s fucking stupid. Recommended mentor for Andreas Pereira? Nemanja Matic, so he can “improve his ability in the air”

He’s 4 foot tall at best ffs, nothing will improve his ability in the air

No offers, so he’s rotting in the reserves whilst trying to get a dwarf to head the ball better

Make of it what you want but seems to me that if their leadership attributes continues to increase like this then we’ll have 3 young potential captains at the end of the season. Pedro and Elliott are sat in the first team and haven’t even played a minute yet. Seems to be only the mental attributes that are greatly effected by mentoring to me.

I may continue this on.

I really like this feature, it’s helped a lot of my players immensely (Maguire->Tuanzebe, Shaw->Williams, Martial->Greenwood, Pogba->Camavinga)

Am I the only person to have players go backwards?

No, you are not. If Ryan Fraser (4 aerial) mentored your wonderkid (12 aerial) your wonderkid may well end up with a 9 aerial. Therefore make sure your mentor is better in every area.

Really? I should check the mentoring again now

I also had Matic mentoring Ruben Neves who I signed, but out of all things, to improve his aerial ability lol. Matic is the biggest waste of space, I like how you can demote players to reserves but it’s impossible to get rid of him, same with Mata

Whew, glad I'm not the only one... Everyone else I've seen talk about Mentoring has only mentioned the positive, so I though maybe it was just me. In case it helps others, this is I typed in a different thread:

Initial thoughts on the mentoring thing: I can see it would be great at a big club with some star players mentoring promising youngsters, but it's not so useful in my current situation (in the Championship with Forest).

My mentors are only average and the promising youngsters they are supposed to be mentoring quickly become as good as them through traditional methods (playing/training etc). When I went to the mentoring screen I was shocked to see about half of my mentoring relationships were actually lowering attributes on the younger players!

Also, the mentors need to be better than the young player at ALL the things you want them to develop. By that I mean they need to be the right shape for how you want the youngster to turn out.

I had one young striker training Aerial and I was surprised to see it go down from 12 to 11 for no reason I could see. When I looked into it, I found it was because he was being mentored by Zach Clough who only had 6 for Aerial. When I set up the relationship, it said that Clough could help him develop Dribbling, which seemed worthwhile, but I didn't realise that he would go backwards at things Clough wasn't good at! I broke the relationship and he got upset, but he scored a goal off the bench in the next game, levelled up and had his Aerial go to 16...

So mentoring seems of pretty limited use to me right now. When these players have developed and turned into strong players and are old enough to mentor the next wave - then I might see results, but until then I will use it sparingly...

All I've had so far is aggression raised for tough games against string opponents and leadership.

I've bought a few players expiring or no club, Alex song, abate, Dante, pizarro, caballero just to mentor haha. Waiting to see if other stats like passing, tackling, decisions go up yet
