Haven't posted it anywhere in full, but all the details are in the lone striker tactic thread - but it's across multiple of posts, you probably need to read through it all.

I might post the tactic in full someday, but a bit resistant to that because might not work in all circumstances (ie I have a world class team in Scotland, might not work so well in the EPL, who knows) and some people get a bit aggressive when it doesn't work for them...

Update - Season 12

Last season was golden: 160 goals for Unuvar, 99 assists for Vignato, a massive jump on both accounts.

Would we be able to replicate that this season? Would Vignato be able to get 100 assists?

The short answer is No. It was back to business as usual this season - very good, but not the magical numbers we got last season. I guess that was a once-off where everything lined up perfectly.

Development

• Unuvar (27 yo) lost a few attribute points thanks to his injury, but is slowly working towards reclaiming them.

• Koita (31 yo) is officially past his prime and starting to decline, losing a point from each of Stamina, Movement and Shooting.

• Vignato (30 yo) lost a point of Pace but still isn't past his prime, so might be able to earn it back. He did ask for a new contract at a lower rate, so the decline can't be far away.

At the ITN level, he started the season with 147 goals and scored a further 16 goals to finish on 163:

That gives him the total of 123 goals this season, which is only his 4th best.

The Future

• Vignato will comfortably make the assists 1KC in the next couple of season.

• Koita is starting the decline and he'll be lucky to make it to 600 goals at this rate - but he should push through 500 next season, which isn't too shabby for a backup striker.

• Unuvar is about to turn 28 and needs 761 goals. He should get a couple more seasons before his decline starts and then he should still score well for another 3 or 4 years. After that it will start getting more difficult, but if he can average 100 over those 6 years, he will be close enough to make it.

Well, I'm trying to keep my cool here Stach, but it's hard when I just wasted 5min copying a tactic you created. I spent 3min setting up everything as you explained and the other 2min on the game, which only ended in a 3-0 win. But all goals came in the last 10min of the game so that basically doesn't count.

Thanks mate. I like to go with crazy targets that stretch me if I think it's a half chance. Misjudged slightly in this case, but I reckon someone might be able to do it.

Koita just banged 5 goals past Bayern Munich, so the lad obviously has talent. I just couldn't give him enough game time to make use of it. In hindsight I wish I'd tried starting Unuvar for 2 games, then Koita for 1. Perhaps Unuvar would have still scored enough because he'd be fresher and it would have given Koita a fighting chance. 

Too late now though... He's too far from the 1K and he's starting his decline.

Thanks Smoggy, yeah, it's all going good. Vignato is not going to get there this season (not far off finishing it now), but he will get there mid next season. He's just amazing.

Update - Season 13

At this point in the career, it's pretty smooth sailing. The likelihood of reaching the respective targets are pretty clear now: Vignato is a definite yes, Koita a definite no, and Unuvar a definite probably.

So... Would season 13 be just another run of the mill season? Or would something unexpected happen?

Wait... I probably shouldn't get your hopes up... It was just more of the same... Endless more of the same...

 

Transfers

After quite a few seasons with nothing much going on, transfers were busier this time around, as the reserve squad needed a little freshening up (bringing in the next generation in a variety of positions):

The biggest sale was Beccacece, who left after 3 seasons or so back at the club. He was still on the best midfielders in the world, but at 29 only had a couple of year left and I want to play the youngsters more.

 

Club Results

We won everything again this year (slight improvement in the number of league goals, but still a long way short of the 155 we got a couple of years ago):

ITN Results

We won Euro 2032, beating France 4-0 in the final, but perhaps the most important win was the one over Spain in the semi final (also 4-0 and with hat tricks to Unuvar in both):

That allowed us to finally overtake Spain as number 1 in the world (for the first time). Slow progress, but we got there in the end.

 

Injuries

Another excellent season injury wise (at least for the main 3, we had some shockers elsewhere in the squad):

• Unuvar lived up to his ironman status and got through the season unscathed.

• Vignato picked up a ghost injury that kept him out of a couple of games.

• Koita missed 2 weeks in the off season

• Unuvar (28 yo) reclaimed the lost attribute points from last year's injury and is back at his best.

• Koita (32 yo) declined a fair bit - he's down on Pace, Aerial, Shooting, Decisions, Dribbling etc. He'll decline quicker than the other two, because he has less playing time.

• Vignato (30 yo) still looks good, but lost another point of Pace, along with some other attributes and is now officially past his prime.

Unuvar scored 109 goals from 55 games:

At the ITN level, he started the season with 163 goals and scored a further 27 goals to finish on 190:

That gives him the total of 136 goals this season.

The Future

As mentioned above, it's all a little pedestrian at this point:

• Vignato will make the assist 1KC next season.

• Koita will fail his 1KC but should make 600 or so.

• Unuvar only need 625 goals which should be achievable unless he retires early or something (has happened to me before).

Bring on another season of tedium...

Thanks guys, I'm actually going faster than ever now. Just finished the next season, will post it soon. Basically I'm not paying as much attention to the detail as I normally do, I'm just auto-piloting through seasons, often while watching something. So, it's not as tedious as I found it a couple of seasons ago.

I suspect that won't last long as they are starting the deterioration process, so it won't be "play. goal, assist, goal, assist, goal, play. assist, goal, goal..." much longer..

I don’t know if deterioration impacts as much as you’d think. @Ian got some nuts numbers with Moise Kean last year in his latter years.

Interesting... I haven't nursed someone to the end since the new training system came in. Both my 1KCs last year ended when the player reached 1K (around the age of 28 or so). Well, I can hope they keep on going and going!

Yes, he did really well into his late 30’s and was even hitting returns in the 20’s when he was totally gone in his late 40’s and I was just playing it out. I have noticed a lot more downward red arrows on players attributes when they get to around 30 this year but haven’t played enough to work out whether they decline quicker or not tbh.

Anyway, it’s going well @Scratch and I can see the numbers are going to be huge once you finish. My system just hasn’t worked quite so well this year as I just haven’t been able to get the right kind of consistency out of my striker, the amount of games it gets to 60 mins and he’s rated 5 and has had about 6 shots off target is frustrating to say the least. I can get a winger and wing back system (no AMC) working pretty well though and may go with something like that but I’m going to try my old set up on the new update first and see what things are like on that.

Cool! Well I'm about to find out first hand what it's like in 20. 😄

Thanks mate. Yeah, I've been lucky in that my tactic still works from last year. Also that I got the lads trained to Aerial 20 before the update that fixed that.

To be fair, my strikers haven't been that consistent either. I've had games where my striker has had 8 shots on target and none have gone in, others where he's had 10 shots and only 2 on target. Some of those games end with no goals. Often, he will pinch a goal at the 70th minute mark. And he may have a few games like that in a row - then he will score 4 goals, followed by 3, and we're back on track. It really helps I'm playing in Scotland.

Going to be interesting with my next save as my whole system relies on an Aerial 20 striker and that's real hard these days. I've been keeping my eye out for youngster who might be good in the air, but I might have to change my tactic. Gulp...

Update - Season 14

This is going to be the season that Vignato passes the 1K assists mark. There's virtually no way he can miss that (apart from a 9 month injury or something). But you can read about that below...

The real story of this season is my attempt to prevent Koita's decline.

 

Preventing The Decline

Because he is a backup, Koita wasn't getting enough game time / goals to keep his development points high. I want them near 100% - he won't get an increase at this point, but it reduces the likelihood of an age related hit taking it down to zero and triggering an attribute loss.

So... The only way to prevent a quick decline is to play him, and not just 10 minutes at the end of games. Therefore I rested Unuvar more often and gave Koita more starts. At one point in the season they were taking each game in turn, but overall Unuvar still started 75% of games.

This also meant that while Unuvar played less games, he was fresher and had more higher scoring games. This was my original vision when I started this save, but somewhere along the way I lost faith that Unuvar could make it to 2K without playing every chance he could.

 

The results?

1. Koita's best goal tally in years

2. Unuvar's tally still very close to his normal numbers

3. Me kicking myself and wondering if we'd still be on for Koita's 1KC if I'd done this 5 or 6 seasons ago

Anyway, enough of that, lets see how this season panned out...

Worth noting that my son arrived with Ajer's retirement at the end of the season - a raw looking midfielder. I'll keep him in the squad for now, but I've never had much luck with my offspring in FMM, so won't focus on him.

At the ITN level, he started the season with 190 goals and scored a further 9 goals to finish on 199 (not many ITN games this year):

That gives him the total of 113 goals this season.

Koita scored 49 goals from 48 games (more than 1 goal a game for only the 2nd time, shame he got the injury):

Vignato provided 92 assists from 57 games (another massive season):

The Future

• Vignato smashed his way past the 1K mark with his 2nd best season ever - can he make 1.5K?

• Unuvar at just about the 3 quarter mark and plenty of time to go - looking good.

• Koita too late now, but if he'd been able to get a goal a game all the way through, he'd have 800 goals and be in with a shot - kicking myself.

There is a potential problem on the horizon: Koita has one more year left on his contract and he has "no interest in negotiating new terms at this time". I tried several times throughout the season, but no go, so his part of this career may be coming to a close sooner than expected.
