馃槀 Nice way to stop someone from completing his goals

That's our @BatiGoal聽... Actually, he's just given me more confidence, as it means he thinks I actually have a chance of pulling this off.

As聽for my players, well I've pinned his comments on the wall and they're pretty fired up. Not the first time I've used this hack journalist's comments to motivate my players... Probably not the last... 馃ぃ

Good luck mate! I particularly love the idea of a back up striker 1kc, the times your back up will come on at 60-70mins and take advantage of a tiring defence by notching a couple, great idea!

Thanks mate. Yeah, it could be inspired genius, but more likely he'll end up with 500 goals or something. Still 2KC and 0.5K doesn't have quite the same ring to it,聽so may as well roll my sleeves up and give it a shot!聽

Update - Season 1

Well, this is a crazy career and it got off to a crazy first season.

I don't think I've ever had one like it. Not that the results were particularly crazy or anything like that, but I tore apart and rebuilt the squad not once, but twice!

The reason: The new pre-match report and accompanying player sentiment system.

Rebuild One - July

I basically did what I do at the start of most careers: I gutted the squad and brought in my own players.

It's hard to go wrong with this approach, especially in the SPL, the Championship, or with a lower level EPL team. There may be a couple of existing players who are decent prospects, but generally they are average to good for the level. I need players who can win us the Champions League and the existing lads are not going to get us there.

Given the top players won't sign, I hedge my bets on youngsters. There are some I know of already: Tonali, Palacious, Passlack, Moro, Eze etc; and I also spend a LOT of time scouting and trying to get players who aren't interested. The end result is a squad of youngsters that's bound for the Champions League Final in a couple of years time.

So that's what I did here and the squad was looking pretty nice. However...

Slackers

It turns out that half my squad can't be arsed playing in the SPL or the domestic cup competitions:

聽 Finds it hard to get motivated for matches in the Ladbrokes Premiership...
聽 Overly relaxed about the forthcoming match against Rangers...

Well why did you sign for the club then Sunshine? Not too bright are you?

I suspect that this is just surfacing some game mechanics that have always been in place, so I think I could probably just ignore this and push on and I'd get similar results to what I have in the past (in FMM19).

But... what if I could get better results if I had a squad where everyone was up for every game?聽

I couldn't ignore that thought.

Rebuild Two - January

As soon as the transfer window opened, I took the painstakingly assembled squad and ripped it apart (again).

Anyone who was getting those messages had to go. Well, except for Koita... Yes, my backup striker who is supposed to get to 1K is a slacker. Fingers crossed that his talent will carry him through when he's bored out there on the pitch.

The rest however had to go. We might be able to carry one slacker, but we can't carry a dozen.

Trying to replace them was hard - some of the outgoing slackers had a Relaxed personality, but others were Normal. Ntcham was even Determined:

crazy-season01-29.jpg.d897af09c4faf2bcd014915f67f37ffc.jpg

That made it hard to know whether the players coming in would be slackers as well. I tried to get players who were Professional or Driven, etc, but had to take a lot of risks. Sure enough, some were not motivated and went straight into the the queue to sell again.

But by and large the rebuild was successful: most of our squad are now motivated to succeed here. The new arrivals are 6 months behind where they'd normally be in terms of development (which cost us in the Champions League), but the future is looking bright.

Does It Really Make Any Difference?

Of course, there is part of me that wonders whether the results would be any different if I had just ignored the messages and pushed on with the slackers. Perhaps the messages are just dressing that don't really have much effect on the outcome.

Wait, can you hear that sound? Like someone laughing in the distance? I think that's @samhardy聽...

Transfers

Well, I'm a wheeler and dealer alright, but I've never done anything like this before:

crazy-season01-50.jpg.2f19da080366a57985db351fbc583b46.jpg

As mentioned above, I cleared out the existing squad, replaced them with promising youngsters, then had to do it all over again. I don't think I've ever spent so long on a single season before.

Tactics

I'm still using the same tactics I used in FMM19 (yes, Defensive) and they are working in much the same way: Most chances for the striker, with many coming from the wing (good for the Vignato Assists 1KC):

crazy-season01-34.jpg.6659be51b362b4baf35b8a50dcb7b656.jpg

The central AP does seem to be getting a few more goals than last year, but maybe that's just down to the players and to the fact that our strikers are not yet at full power. It's something I'm watching however.

I'm not going to go into any more detail here, but I discussed what I do extensively in this thread from last year (read it all, so much gold from so many good managers):

Club Results

We won everything domestically, as you would expect (and we'll get even better each year):

crazy-season01-43.jpg.35288ff6a4c5df61aa9419c93dd1bd69.jpg

In the Champions League, we snuck through a strong group, beating Real Madrid to second courtesy of a 1-0 win over them (overriding their superior goal difference). However, we went out to Napoli in the first knockout round, with VAR denying a late goal that would have seen us through.

crazy-season01-37.jpg.e9eafd73a9bb1d16389503f8a975ee2f.jpg

I think the new next match report / player sentiment system helps with the big games, as I can see which players think we'll lose, so I can swap them out for less intimidated players. Or then again, maybe it doesn't do much.

Wait, is that Sam laughing again?

Injuries

A great season, with no injuries for either Unuvar or Koita. However Vignato wasn't quite so lucky, with a 3 week injury (and a ghost injury):

Development

Unuvar at the end of the season:

crazy-season01-55.jpg.b4446b13b93e6b48bde127ff36f2640f.jpg

Very nice! He got tired a lot and also occasionally felt the pressure of first team football, but he's shaping up as a good looking player. He reached the "needs to mature if he is to develop further" mark near the end of the season. I can only hope that unlocks next season, as I really want him to work on his Physicals.

Koita at the end of the season:

crazy-season01-57.jpg.35f3a9557aeda29625f63629ddaadd69.jpg

He hasn't been able to get to 20 Aerial like Unuvar, but the rest is looking pretty good. No development plateau for him, so hopefully more improvement to come. He does get tired easily though.

Vignato at the end of the season:

crazy-season01-59.jpg.8210ac9e29f3b37725667c54faf77f07.jpg

He's looking very impressive and also has more to come. This is definitely going the right way. He does cut inside and score the odd goal which is unfortunate, but can't do much about that now (maybe play Disciplined instead of Expressive?). Like the others, he does get tired easily.

Unuvar 2KC

A sign of things to come?

crazy-season01-36.jpg.ae80be1041a002bb7f2f38bec6f82b3a.jpg

Unuvar scored 44 goals from 43 games:

crazy-season01-56.jpg.4b79aedb907f352eb7c7531a2ff8d061.jpg

A nice start for a 16 year old, can't really expect any more than that.

Koita 1KC

Koita scored 24 goals from 48 games:

crazy-season01-58.jpg.efc1083e93907132ab542a1ac2ee7177.jpg

I'd normally say that's pretty good for someone primarily coming off the bench, but he's turned 20 and needs to pick up the pace pretty quick if he wants to keep @BatiGoaloff his back...

Vignato Assists 1KC

Vignato provided 29 assists from 44 games:

crazy-season01-60.jpg.55b5adb56d29ae6531a07aed8782553c.jpg

A decent start, but once again needs to pick up the pace pretty quickly. Arzani only had 34 in his first season, so not worried yet.

Progress

Season Goals (Unuvar) Goals (Koita) Assists (Vignato)
01 44 24 29
Total 44 /2000 24/1000 29/1000

The Future

I'd like to have gotten higher numbers, but I think they will come (and soon).

We have a decent squad in place now, but they need to develop. Once they power up a bit, we'll be a pretty good team and the goals will start flowing.

No need, he's hopeless. I'm not wasting my time with slackers. Not even a number crunching manager like you can get him back on track. Give up already 馃憤

Great start mate. I bet you鈥檙e glad to get that first season done given all the changes you made! Well set now to press on, good luck!

Thanks mate - you'd think that wouldn't you? But I'm still scouting out other players to buy... Helplessly addicted.. 馃ぃ

Nice start but thats one hell of a rebuild job you pulled off. Losing confidence so fast in your players??聽馃槀

LOL... All to do with the new messages (that my players can't get motivated by the SPL).聽

The thing is if I just ignored the new messages, it would probably have ended up just as good. I聽probably had the same problem in 19, just couldn't see it existed, and I kicked ass there.聽

So, I'm not convinced those message make much difference - but hey, if my players can't get motivated for the SPL, then they are OUT. Goodbye and don't come back! There's more where you came from... 馃槃

Strong start for a 16 year old. Did you train him as a target man to get his aerial to 20?

Thanks. Yes, trained him as Target Man and on Aerial most of the time. Interestingly though, once he got to 15, his next upgrade didn't change Aerial at all. So I switched to Stamina (which he sorely needed as well) and in the next upgrade he jumped right to 20 Aerial!! Wasn't complaining...

The training is pretty weird this year. Thanks though scratch, KIU聽

Not a bad start to season 2:

My Defensive tactic looks like it's just as effective as in FMM19 now that the players are getting a little better. They still have some way to go mind you...聽
