Help Substitutions are useless

Recommended Posts

80% of the time the subs I bring on only end up with 3-6 passes by the end of the game and can’t make an impact, therefore finish with a 6 which severely effects development in this game.

what am I doing wrong? Anyone else getting this too?

I have had my 35-year old sub striker make some equalizers and winning goals, ending with an 8 or a 9 in such cases.

No player is really defined as a super sub in the game but I find that the quickest players are probably the best subs vs tired teams. So if you have quick striker who is also not good enough to start games, but they’d probably make a good sub, at the big clubs the best I can think of is Lacazette or Gabriel Jesus

I find my subs work well tbh. What annoys me is the big delay in bringing them on sometimes. I sub only players rated 5 or lower, and ones whose fitness has dropped below 70. Works pretty well for me anyway

yep, sounds realistic to me, most subs have little impact. i've definitely had some subs come on to great effect though. i always make a double sub between 60-70mins, generally taking the two players with the lowest condition off (although i hate to take both CM's off, feels like it'd disturb the team's rhythm too much). i also got into the habit, a bit counter-intuitively, of taking off players who are performing WELL rather than those playing badly - if you take off a 7, it guarantees he's feeling good (basically), whereas if you take off a 6 or less, it guarantees he'll take a morale hit. noticed it in my Polish DT career last year when trying to develop the young strikers - subbed them off if they ever had 7+ to make sure they got a development boost.

I do exactly the same. I bring on a fast striker around the 65 minute mark and 2 fast inside forwards. Usually works a charm.

i usually go for a young high potential striker on the bench and he usually ends up with 15-20 goals a season

I make 1 sub at 55~ mins and the other two between 60-65~ (if 0 injury/red card) – usually I’ll sub my 6 rated players off or players in bad condition... usually find I get some kind of performance benefit even though 80% of my subs are like-for-like.

Sounds really bait to say this... but make sure you’re bringing on good quality and that you’re not making adverse tactical changes. The more you try to overcomplicate this game the more it shits on you/your opinion of it lol.
