1000 Goals With A Bunch Of Amateurs

 

Leagues: 🇵🇹 - 🇩🇰 - 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 - 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Featured club: FC Porto

This is going to be my first long-term commitment for FMM20. It's a pretty simple concept and I intend to keep the updates interesting but simple as well. The main reason I went ahead with this idea is because there's already a large chunk of careers out there featuring wonderkids, so I'd like to offer something a little different. I'm going to embark on a journey starring non-wonderkids. Amateurs! A bunch of 'em. I've done a few short-term saves and tests up to this point and I have to say the formation I'm going to use for this club is good. I have faith this is going to work out, but if I'm wrong and it doesn't it'll be an unforgettable experience nonetheless. 

 

Main Challenge: This year's FMM counts 48 amateur clubs and at some point I'm going to approach all 48 - provided their amateur status remains unchanged throughout this career - and find any one player at the club to chip in with goals for a grand minimum of 1000. A player only lasts till the next transfer window, giving me little to no time to develop his non-existent skills. So that's 2 players/season making this career last up to 24 seasons. It's a stretch but I'm more than ready for the ride. The high turnover rate of amateur players is one of the things that excites me very much.

 

Side Challenge 1: @samhardy's Gündogan's Victory Challenge. I've failed this one before, but I think now is the perfect time to finally drag it over the finishline. How long it'll take me I have no idea. But I assure you this time it WILL get done. Objective is to star a German midfielder in my starting 11 and win 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9-0 in a single season.

Side Challenge 2: @Foxy's The Managers 1000 Goals Challenge. Simple concept here as well. Have your team(s) score exactly 1000 goals in as few games as possible. This one's definitely not a matter of 'if' but rather 'when'.

All these clubs are going to provide me with 1 player for half a season before I jump to the next one. Their goals count towards this career's total and the above list will be updated with the players and their scored goals every ½ season. To complete the challenge I've set for myself I will need to score 20 odd gls/player in half a season x48. Do they have enough stamina to play full games? Can I be competitive despite their abysmal conversion rate? I'm throwing myself into the unknown here so let's just hope I don't embarrass myself again and pray we count 1000 goals by the end of it.

Great idea ! Best of luck ! Aarhus Fremad is a legendary team in Danish Football and have very few good players throughout history BUT they are famous for their cool outfit and songs ( sung by 20-30 drunks in the pooring rain ) 😂

Thanks @Ian I certainly won't recommend that Gündogan challenge to anyone 😂 but it'll be a fun side gig for big careers.

Side Challenge 2

The team needs to score 1000 goals ASAP and we're reasonably on track here I think. Not really sure how good a score I want to see other than to just compare the results with my previous careers. I take whatever numbers I make and hope it sticks on the leaderboard for at least a day. I need to keep posting this reminder or I'll be well beyond it by the time it make notice of it.

Side Challenge 1

I need to hit 9 scorelines on this one and to be totally frank, I'm quite sure I won't come close in the first handful of seasons. The team is still in its sculptural stages and nowhere near the required strength to pull this off. So I'll be very patient with this and simply use the results to sort of analyze where and how much progression is being made results wise. For the current season this is how things stand:

Main Challenge - Player 1: Salim "The Sleeper"

We kick our main challenge off with the only amateur team in Scotland; Queen's Park. I thought let's just get this one done with and be left with Denmark, Portugal and Wales. The player that rolls this career into motion is Salim Kouider-Aïssa A.K.A "The Sleeper". I bet most Vibers have never heard of him.

But what do I look for in amateur players? What IS there to look for? We can't possibly expect greens or blues in all primary attributes so I need to kinda prioritize which attributes to favor over others. No philosophies here other than to want them on the pitch to make minutes: 13 Stamina is as good as it gets in this tier of football <-- debatable. And have a decent aim for goal: 11 Shooting should get us the desired 20+ goals. Anything else such as Movement, Decisions, Pace I take for granted otherwise it's clear I end up with no players.

A brace of penalties, he missed ⅔ easily of all he got. A true master of missing chances.

There's our Salim at his best. Thanks for missing those shots. We barely made the CL group winning H2H vs Leverkusen. Phew! Chelsea are next.

Disappointing! Far from great but it's just incredible how skilled these amateurs are at wasting chances. OK ok he cost me pocket change for a reason but he's really good at being garbage 😂 definitely got my work cut out. My main aim for now is to really strengthen this Porto team asap to create loads and loads of opportunities for the future amateurs to waste, simple math. No two ways about it and I want to see 20+ gls next half season or I'm in for a looong humiliating ride. I still very much believe but it's not going to be easy.

It is indeed a long one but these are exactly the kind I enjoy the most. 24 seasons could easily turn into a full 30 if nothing else crosses my path 😀

I've done quite a bit of testing late 19 early 20 and I've had more success going with a 3-striker formation than a single striker one when playing a below average goalscorer. Winning 3-5 nill usually gets him a goal opposed to barely winning matches having one ST.
