Tactics Gracias Johan - An unorthodox tactic(EME) UPGRADED

Recommended Posts

So I got really bored.

And with boredom being the uncle of invention, I made this.

Inspiration.

Ever since I was a young lad I idolised the fluid, beautiful totaalvoetbal perpetrated by Rinus Michels and Johan Cr-

This isn't a cooking blog so I'll just skip this bit.

TACTIC.

On to what everyone is here for,

Screenshot_2020-02-24-15-40-29-93_36fa02476c2abfe5b8a999414c9ee0c5.thumb.png.e4bdbf814e7a8d7353d6ebe4a3b85f03.png

(those blue dots annoy me)

(Edit: Team mentality counter works better.)

One might wonder, how exactly does this formation look like in game?

Let me tell you.

It's a 4-4-2.

No really.

It's a 4-4-2.

But,

Only when defending.

See, while defending the wing back drops back to join the centre backs to form a solid bank of 4; the inside forward drops back to join the 3 midfielders to form another bank of 4; and the target man drops back slightly to join the shadow striker.

And then it becomes a 3-4-3.

In possession, the wingback pushes forward to join the midfielders; and the inside forward cuts in to join the shadow striker and target man.

And sometimes it's even a 3-2-5.

While attacking, the wing back pushes all the way forward to attack the opposition's wings; the inside forward cuts in(as he does); the B2B charges into the final third, leaving the CM and DLP to defend the midfield.

But all that doesn't matter, because if your aunt were your uncle, he'd be your uncle, and the game says this is a 3-1-3-2-1, so that's what this is.

Let me go a bit more in depth into it now. (Skip ahead if you don't wanna get lectured by a mere student)

Roles.

SK: To be frank, you could stick any old rando in here and still expect him to perform decently.

Case in point: Screenshot_2020-02-24-17-02-15-94_36fa02476c2abfe5b8a999414c9ee0c5.thumb.png.66a1f932c1331c8d332f253a18851c04.pngScreenshot_2020-02-24-17-02-22-82_36fa02476c2abfe5b8a999414c9ee0c5.thumb.png.be0fd417736a7243a55a52fb96c2bb59.png

I should probably get a new keeper.

But yes, I've been using the same keeper I had in Serie C, in Serie A without too much of an issue.

Key attributes would be....

I have no clue, sorry.

Just the usual ones I guess, which would be...

Aerial

Handling

Reflexes

Throwing

Pace

LBPD: Fast, big, strong defender who can keep the ball on his feet and pass it.

Key attributes would be...

Aerial

Dribbling

Passing

Tackling

Technique(isn't too important, but I believe that having at least 10 technique is ideal)

Decisions(a little redundant since everyone needs good decision making, even crackhead Joe down the road.)

Positioning

Teamwork

Pace

Stamina

Strength

CD: Scary fella.

Key attributes are...

Aeriel

Tackling

Aggression

Decisions

Positioning

Teamwork(for high workrate)

Strength

Honestly, I think this is a role that can be tweaked. Maybe some adventurous fella among you lot can try a sweeper or heck, even a libero.

RBPD: Same as the guy on the other side. I'm lazy to copy and paste, sue me.

RWB: Hoo boy, this was one of the roles I struggled so much with. Originally I went with an all out winger in the AMR slot. But the problem with that was the fact that even the best wingers would get man marked to oblivion and taken out of the game entirely. After which I tried the RWB and, okay this is an improvement but it's still somewhat mediocre. Maybe a WB in the RB slot or a DW/WM in the MR spot, personally I like the RWB spot.

The key attributes for this are....

Everything except leadership.

Okay what I mean is,

An all rounded player, with some bias towards crossing, dribbling, tackling, positioning, pace and stamina.(the physical attributes are extremely important, you want someone who can seriously cover the entire right flank by his own.)

CM: An all rounded player with bias towards defensive attributes. BWMs can be used here.

DLP: Stand in the middle of the field and keep passing buddy.

An all rounded player with bias towards passing.

B2B: Basically an AP who can and will run a lot. All rounded player with bias towards offensive attributes, an AP can be played here. Also try to get a left footed player, as then they'll be able to dribble, pass, and shoot on their stronger foot towards the centre of the pitch.

IF: A striker who got lost and ended up on the wings.

I doubt I need to really elaborate on what key attributes you need for this guy.

SS: A striker who is afraid of playing up top because that's where fellas like CD and crackhead Joe are.

TM: While the role only calls for a tall, strong guy who's good at shooting, you actually need a tall, strong guy who's also good at passing, creating chances(both for others and himself), also fast with good stamina, and good at shooting.

I reccomend training him as a complete forward.

Key attributes are...

Aerials

Passing

Shooting

Technique

Aggression

Creativity

Decisions

Teamwork

Pace

Stamina

Strength

That's about it for player roles.

Shape.

Originally went with overload because goals are fun, but for some reason I wasn't scoring enough to justify the amount of goals I was conceding.

Width doesn't seem to do much however I set it.

Tempo has to be slow(at least with the low tier team I used), else attacks keot breaking down due to my players missing their rushed passes.

And creative freedom is a tricky one, because while on one hand the fluidity is a strength of this tactic, one the other hand I don't want my players to get confused and do weird stuff.(at least with the lower tier team I used)

Defence.

The high press.

Attack.

No specific attacking instructions because I trust my players. I also don't trust them to follow my instructions, so there's that.

Passing I prefer to be short, as that further adds on to a strength of this tactic which is possession.(I even set the vibe record with 80% possession :))

Passing focus might work well if set to centre, but I haven't extensively tested it out yet. So feel free to test that one out guys.

And goalkeeper distribution has to be short. Two reasons. One is to help better retain possession. Two is because I got 10 games straight where the match report said "wasteful goalkeeper distribution".

So that's the meaty part done, so the important question now is:

How does it perform?

Results.

Screenshot_2020-02-24-18-59-59-33_36fa02476c2abfe5b8a999414c9ee0c5.thumb.png.959272aca23ed892a463943f71973776.png

Serie C to qualifying for CL in 5 seasons. That's pretty alright I would say.

Offensively it's nothing special(I blame my forwards lack of finishing), but defensively it is sound.

The average game looks something like this:

55%+ possession is routine. You will dominate midfield in possession. The front trio of IF, SS, and TM tend to shoot the most, with the midfielders, B2B(guy named Mazza) in particular, getting a few shots here and there too.

Pros & Cons.

Pros:

-High possession stats.

-Defensively solid.

-Proven to work in lower league teams.

Cons:

-Mediocre offensive stats(I haven't had a single player lead in goals or assists in any of the competitions I've played in).

-Appears to not work particularly well with bigger teams(I will need help testing this tactic out with bigger teams. I attempted to play 15 games as Barcelona, and while I won every single game, I still felt like the stats were mediocre)

ALRIGHT!

That about covers everything, please do freely ask me any questions you all may have. I'm pretty sure I missed some stuff because I'm dumb but here goes!

Thank you for reading!

SCROLL DOWN FOR THE UPGRADED VERSION.

Much appreciated mate!

Also a quick little tip I want to give is to try and convert your LBs to B2B(left footed, all around players with decent physicals) or LBPD(left footed, defensively solid player with decent on the ball skills).

And right footed strikers to IFs. I also forgot to mention that you should try and get a left footed TM to further maximise performance as then they'll be able to play on their strong foot towards the centre of the pitch.

There's probably more I'm forgetting but i'll post those up once I remember.

One word, seven letters. Say it and the tactic works better.

Counter.

Since I was rarely getting goals with control on, I thought why not. And the results are overwhelming positive. Putting team shape down to counter really solves many problems. It further improves the tactic defensively, and stops my players from making too many wasteful outside of the box shots. And don't worry about your offense being weaker due to playing a more defensive team shape, because it actually improves your offense. I am now scoring more goals than ever before.

And all with just a single, simple change.

Counter.

Well here's an update on how the tactic is performing for me.

Screenshot_2020-02-25-18-07-30-16_36fa02476c2abfe5b8a999414c9ee0c5.thumb.png.8556912a0b61af2aef19bcbf730caa2d.pngScreenshot_2020-02-25-18-07-36-91_36fa02476c2abfe5b8a999414c9ee0c5.thumb.png.e552123a81c5f92fe3409951e8e29fa5.png

The Serie A title and a CL final.

I would say that's pretty alright.

Okay honestly Serie A was having a kinda bad season overall and I got lucky, but personally I know that the tactic did work pretty well as I dominanted most games in overall stats but got unlucky in scoring and conceding goals(damn you Moussa Marega).

How's the tactic working out for everyone else?

The results you show are actually really good and I cannot wait to test it on the new winter update.

I will probably try it out in Spain with Rayo Vallecano.

Whelp, there goes this tactic.

It's starting to completely fell apart for me.

Been on a goal drought for the last 5-6 games and I keep conceding shocking goals(imagine the league leaders losing to last place benevento).

I'm completely drained of motivation to keep this one up. I hope it goes better for the rest of of y'all. Off I go bouncing from new career to new career, hopefully I'm able to recapture a spark and come back with something else.

Edit: okay maybe it's not all gone, I made another simple crucial change that's brought me back to my winning ways. Changed creative freedom to expressive.

BRAND NEW AND IMPROVED VERSION!!!

Well my CD was performing mediocre-ish so I thought, "let's fix that."

I haven't changed much except move the CD to TM and changed the TM to DLF, but oh boy!

Screenshot_2020-02-27-13-44-54-87_36fa02476c2abfe5b8a999414c9ee0c5.thumb.png.dc76b1338ad9fbbc549041614b58f8b1.png

I made the big change after the Napoli game, with Liverpool being my first testee.

For comparison, here are my results from before the change. Screenshot_2020-02-27-13-45-04-02_36fa02476c2abfe5b8a999414c9ee0c5.thumb.png.ba12d9436305c0e7fa787150605ce45c.png

Overall, a good improvement in offence with marginal(possibly negligeble) impariment to defence.

Anyway, I'm going to test this out in Scotland with Rangers. I will be having fun with this and I hope the same for y'all.

Is the Rangers one with the winter update?

Yep, I updated the game the moment I heard the winter update was out. A bit risky, I know from personal experience with FMM19 but hey.

Also preeeetty sure I'm on the latest winter rosters as well because Screenshot_2020-02-27-18-55-45-13_36fa02476c2abfe5b8a999414c9ee0c5.thumb.png.4992c66147477ce2bbac962f3f1ebb6b.png

I don't remember this guy looking that monstrous last time out.

Looking through Celtic makes me burn with jealousy at how good their players are.

But nevermind them because Screenshot_2020-02-27-18-54-06-15_36fa02476c2abfe5b8a999414c9ee0c5.thumb.png.14e48f55d0371bc8bc95952d130f1a45.png

Yep, because goals are fun.

I switched up to control because of a goalless draw on the first friendly I played, it was so soul crushingly boring.

I'm just trying the updated version but changed the DLF to DF, and it seems to be working wonders. Since changing to that every game nearly has at least 1 mistake that leads to a goal each game for the opposition.

Shape caunter, control?

Excellent choice!

DF was one of the roles I tested as well, while it was decent it didn't quite click for me. Glad to see it's working for you!

I reloaded my game and tried again, but I changed it due to lack of signings (back to chris’ original set up) and stayed up in the premier league
