Just caught up - congrats on completing the challenge, then the 150 mark - and good luck as you push on towards 250! Interesting that he's scoring at about the same rate in Spain, I guess the strength of the league doesn't matter so much for free kicks and penalties - makes sense.

Thanks mate, he seems to be scoring more free-kicks now in Spain compared to the final few seasons in China, should be safe to say strength of the opponent's didn't quite affect free-kicks and penalties

Successfully won the league in all 5 seasons, averaging 100.6 points, 124 goals scored and 39.8 goals conceded each season. Still no luck in an unbeatable or perfect season though, was pretty close from winning all 38 games in Season 14, just getting those odd draws and losses against mid-table teams.

As for the Champions League, we won it twice in the 5 seasons. Surprisingly knocked out in Group Stage in S13 after being grouped with Man Utd, Lyon and Dortmund.

A very disappointed season here with only 10 league goals, but Vanja got himself 5 goals for Serbia this season.

So close from being the UCL Top Scorer.

 

Here's how he look like at the age of 35.

Still some very good attributes, but his low Pace caused the team a few goals, he had to run back to his goal-post after taking a free-kick and that often lead to the opponent scoring some long range goals.

Some average goal-keeping performances apart from his goal-scoring ones.

Another 98 goals added to his tally, which brings his total goals up to 262, successfully passing the 250 goals mark.

With him not interested in signing a new contract and only 1 year left in his current contract, next season may be his last. My next target is 300 goals, but that doesn't seem too possible now. The next update will possibly be the last update of this career, which could be covering only 1 season if he still refuse to sign a new contract and go for straight retirement.

Great stuff, excellent season from a goal scoring point of view. He'll only be 36 next year, which isn't old for a keeper, so you can probably get him to sign a new contract around the time it expires. I definitely had that with one of my players - they would not sign and not sign and not sign, then a day before it expired they happily signed... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Incredible numbers here.

Defiantly agree with the comments regarding the contract. I've seen it a few times where they will refuse to sign in the last 6 months then just before you have you start the new season with player retirements etc they sign a new deal.

So it turns out I do not need to wait until his contract runs out to get him a new contract. He decided to sign it just before the new season started, and it's just not the time for him to hang his gloves yet. So there will be another 5 or even 10 years of Vanja. Is 400 goals possible then? 🤔

The Final Update

In the last update, our main man Vanja successfully passed the 250 goals-mark, and agreed to sign a 5 years contract extension while also agree to play on after that, which means that he can at least play for another 5 years. This update will cover the next 2 seasons, in which we try to hit the 300 goals-mark.

Missed the screenshots of him scoring the 18th goal of the season, but he played his best season at the age of 37, scoring 18 goals for Barcelona and 8 for Serbia (thanks to World Cup 2034). A total of 26 goals this season, to bring his tally up to 305, which might be his final tally.

Here's how Vanja look like at the end of the season, at the age of 37.

Still some decent goalie attributes, but a horrible pace.

His worst season as a goalie, conceding 83, which his terrible pace may be the main factor.

Challenge Summary

He registered his best ever season scoring 26 goals to bring his total goals up to 305, overtaking @BatiGoal's 272 goals scored by his Bazoer in A Defender's Story. Good news for Bati is that Vanja's record won't be included in the Ronald Koeman's Challenge, so he remain top of that leaderboard for now. 😉

Anyway, although Vanja still can play for at least 4 more seasons, I guessed it's time to end this career here. So 305 is my final score for the challenge. Thanks for everyone following this career, and as always comments are appreciated. 😀

Season 17 : Vanja's Back!

Yup you see it right, I'm back into this career again, trying to bring Vanja's goal tally above his current 305 record. 

After seeing @George Traistă's amazing career with Stefan Bajic, I missed the feeling of having a goalkeeper scoring so much that I decided to load this save again, and continue Vanja's goal-scoring career.

He's now 37 years old, with 3 more years in his current contract, still a decent free-kick taker, so my current target for him is to have him achieving 1/3 KC that is 333 goals. If I managed to get him another 5 years contract, I may aim for 350 or even 400, but the target's 333 goals for the time being.

He's just so good in scoring goals this season, earning himself the team's top scorer this season.

We got a new addition to the team at the end of this season, with my "son" Cassio Luiz Ceni promoted to the first team following Jean-Clair Todibo's retirement.

He's a center-back that have quite some potential in him.

That's all for this season, disappointing for the team, winning only the two Super Cups, but a very successful one for Vanja, scoring 27 goals, breaking his own record of most goals scored in a season (26). 

He also agreed to sign a new 5 years contract, and to my surprise, he reconsidered retirement and will be playing even after the current contract. With the 1/3 KC hit, my next target will be 400 goals, which again seems possible since he will play for another 5+ years. Thanks for reading 😃.

Wow, 27 goals in a season is massive! Great stuff mate, looks like 400 will be easy at this rate - as long as he keeps out enough goals to stop you getting sacked! 😄

@ScratchI think he concedes that many goals because of the tactic he uses but not to forget that the same tactic gets 27 goals in one season for a goalie. Me with Bajic I had seasons with less than 30 goals conceded but only one season with 20+ goals for him. Different player, different approach.

Yeah my tactic is a very offensive one with only 2 center-backs and no wing-backs, Vanja did concede a lot of goals for not being able to run back to the goal after missing a free-kick 😂

And also because the center backs can cover up, being only 2 men versus maybe 3 or 4 on the counter attack.

Here's how he looks like at 40 years old, he probably can't even run back to the goal post after taking a free-kick now with the awful 1 pace and 4 stamina.

Slightly better in terms of goals conceded, only 65 conceded compared to previous season 89, also 7 assists for him.

Only 12 goals scored this season, his lowest tally ever.

Probably because of Vanja's poor performance as a goalie, the team isn't performing as good as before, losing the league title to Real for 3 seasons in a row. Maybe a change is needed?

Anyway, in the beginning of the following season, this happen ...

I'm sacked!

Not because of poor result though, it happened after I declared interest in managing Guangzhou Evergrande.

Anyway, that's not a bad news, as I'm now back to where it all started ... China! Not in Beijing this time, but Guangzhou.

And as always, Vanja's with us again.

He scored another 2 goals before my sacking, which brings his career total to 361.
