Career Rainbow Rangers: The Rainbow Challenge - S7: Pink (COMPLETE)

Hi guys, I am back with another short career taking on an older challenge created by @Titjes that hasn't got much love here but will challenge any player due to the lack of signings, just one allowed per year.

The Rainbow Challenge

For this one I wanted to try and different club I have used before so I headed up north and took control of the blue half of Glasgow.

What I didn't realise is that Rangers has a serious lack of central midfielders!
Most of them are out on loan like Greg Docherty, Jordan Rossiter and Ross McCrorie so it was going to be challenge to find the right tactic to ensure my chosen player gets the best change to hit those goals.

Season 1: Buy a player from a team that wears Red

So looking around with a limited budget for the Red player. I knew I wanted to implement a 4-1-2-1-2 formation so wanted another striker to partner Morelos up front and I found a long forgotten wonderkid-ish languishing in Boliva. Step forward...Iker Hernandez

He really has not progressed at all starting at Real Sociedad, he was a Spanish youth international up to Under 20 but then dropped off the radar with move into Holland and then somehow ending up in Bolivia! He cost me the princely sum of £170k! Bargain, I hope.

So this is my first team currently, with no really BWM I had redeploy Matt Polster, a right back who can be retrained and looked to have the ideal stats for this position.
With Hagi on loan, I was hoping he could supply my rainbow man Hernandez and El Bufalo.

Let's see what we can do...

Well, not sure if you would class him a proper wonderkid. He was a very good young striker.

Season 1 - Red - Iker Hernandez

Transfers In

Just Hernandez.

Transfers Out

Raising come cash with players who didn't fit my narrow formation.

League

We managed to top Celtic in season 1 which was very good indeed.
We lost the same amount of games but they had a huge number of draws.

Cups

We added the Betfred Cup but lost in the QF to Aberdeen and Barca taught us a lesson in the Euro Cup second round

Team Stats

Hernandez secured the top scorer points with Morelos and surprisingly Tavernier was top assister.

Not sure about the player of year award here as we have two, Players' Player and Football Writers.
Maybe @Titjes can confirm which one is valid one for the points here?

Rainbow - Red

A cracking debut season from Hernandez. He blasted 40 goals. Not bad for a £170k 👍

Season Points

League Title = 10
League top Scorer = 5
League Top Assists = 5

TOTAL - 20

I'm afraid Players' Player does not count mate, in Scotland it's the FW Player/Young Player of the Year for points 🙁

But enough seasons to go, to make up those points, I'm sure you will end with a good score 😉

Thanks, he had a really solid season for me.

Not spectacular but his stats didn't really rise either so I guess he had peaked about 5 years ago!

Pretty average really, his fitness isn't great. Didn't get that many games out of him.

Season 2 - Orange - Victor Kovalenko

So onto season 2 and we needed to pick up a player from a team that wears orange, the obvious choice was to head to the Ukraine and see what Shaktar have to offer and this man fits the bill. I needed to replace Hagi as he went back to Genk.

Transfers In

The Defoe deal was already agreed when I took over.
I don't actually think he played a game this season and then promptly retired.

Transfers Out

Just a few squad departures but it boosts the bank balance.

We kept the same formation with Kovalenko slotting in behind my front two.
Not sure how much longer I can keep Morelos as I have rejected a few bids and he is getting itchy feet. Might have to cash in soon.

Good start from my new guy!

League

A slightly more easy league campaign with just one defeat all season and a very tight defence.

Cups

Another Betfred cup to add to the collection.
Celtic did a number on me in the final of the Scottish cup and a decent Quarter Final run in the Champs League.

Team Stats

An even better season from Hernandez as he takes the Top Scorer Award in the League and Champs League.

Newboy Kovalenko takes the Top Assists too.

This time Hernandez does take the right award, the FW Player of the Year.

Rainbow Player - Orange

Simply sensational from the boy, 40 assists and 15 goals was a stunning return.

Season Points

League:

• League Title = 10
• League Top Scorer = 5
• League Top Assists = 5

Champions League:

• Champions league Top Scorer = 5

Extra:

• Player of the Year = 15

SEASON TOTAL - 40

CHALLENGE TOTAL - 60

A much better season all round boosted those scores.

Season 3 - Yellow - Gonçalo Paciência

So with the inevitable happening as Morelos was sold after wanting out for while I needed to replace him with another big target man and this man fitted the bill.

Far from prolific from this journeyman striker, hope he can find his home at Ibrox and fill the void left by Morelos.

Team

Still sticking with the same formation. Paciência slots into the TM role. Ryan Jack has forced his way into the team. Rossiter back from his loan spell is the preferred option as the BWM. The back four remain the solid same and with McGregor let go, Foderingham steps up as GK.

League and Cups

I forgot to take a proper screenshot of the league but it was another comfortable title
We added the Scottish Cup but another final defeat to the old enemy Celtic, this time in the Betfred Cup.
Champions League was too tough again as we crashed out in the Group Stage.

Team Stats

We were somehow pipped to the Top Scorer award by Ryan Christie, even though Hernandez finished on the same goals and in less games too. Not sure what else it could come down too? Alphabetical order...

Kovalenko takes the top assists award again.

Hernandez retained his FW Player of the Year Award.

Rainbow Player - Yellow

Solid season from the big man with 39 goals.

Season Points

League:

• League Top Assists = 5

Extra:

• Player of the Year = 15

SEASON TOTAL - 30

CHALLENGE TOTAL - 90

Slightly down on last season, which was disappointing but still a few more seasons to boost up the total.

Decent progess. Yellow has just been posted. Solid I would say rather than great.

Yeah, with one transfer you need to have a decent starting squad and hopefully add with a few decent youth players.

Solid is defiantly the word, not quite in the top bracket of players but perfect for the Scottish league.

Season 4 - Green - Anthony Ralston

So as we head into season 4 we need to pick up a green player. It was an obvious choice to see if we could head across Glasgow and pinch someone from my great rivals. Looking at my squad I felt I could do with some defensive reinforcements and managed to splash the cash on the current Scotland right back.

Transfers In

Hopefully a few decent youth players to boost the ranks.

Transfers Out

Aribo actually went at the end of the season, a deal I couldn't turn down.

Team

Ralston being the only change here in the first team.

Finally my management is being recognised with a big money offer in Spain but I need to complete this challenge.

League and Cups

Another title in the bag with the Betfed Cup. I cant believe another defeat in the final 😡
I am cursed in that competition. More struggles in the Champs League, just cannot get a decent run.

Team Stats

No mistake this season from Paciencia in the goal scoring charts and also picking up FW Player of the Year.
My new youth striker managed to pick up the Young Player of the Year. Kovalenko takes the assist title too.

Rainbow Player - Green

A good debut season from Ralston.

• League Top Assists = 5

Extra:

• Player of the Year = 15

SEASON TOTAL - 30

CHALLENGE TOTAL - 120

Without further progress in the Champions League I don't think I can boost my total.

Yeah, not too bad. I think if I employed a 5 at the back and pushed him a bit further forward then he may have contributed more.

I am just finding it really tough in Europe, my keeper always seems to have one awful game each season where he concedes with every shot!

Season 5 - Blue - Antonio Marin

So onto my fifth season with Rangers and I decide to change things up a bit and change the formation to a 4-3-3.

This allowed me to bring my my next rainbow player from Dimamo, Antiono Marin.

A bit of a coup really as I couldn't believe he had not been snapped up already.

Here is my first team after this change of formation. Marin is playing from the FL position.

Transfers In

With Marin was just some more youth hopefuls.

Transfers Out

Trimming the squad here and releasing the youth not up to scratch.

League and Cups

Another comfortable league title and just the Scottish Cup to add to the trophy cabinet.

Team Stats

Marin's excellent first season see's him grab the FM Player of the Year award.
Paciencia tops the goal scoring this season.
Kovalenko tops the assists again.

Rainbow Player - Blue

A cracking first season from Marin coming in from the FL position.

I guess this is my standard season here as I continue to struggle in Europe.

Yeah, have a few coming through that can do a job but ironically strikers, which I don't really need! 🙈

Season 6 - Purple - Niclas Thiede

Into the penultimate season here with the Gers and I looked to sure up my defence as I try to head deeper into the Champions League and get some more bonus points. I felt it was time to replace our keeper and I invested in a decent prospect, only costing me £5m plus a player.

Transfers In

Some more decent looking youth players but all attacking ones and I really need some more full backs!

Transfers Out

A big money move for my best youth striker, Helander was sold at the end of season here as his into this 30's now.

So with Thiede in goal, not much has changed here other than Docherty forcing himself into the first team now in the BBM role.

League and Cups

A solid league title was never in doubt and as always just one other cup, the Betfred Cup.
Again another narrow first round defeat in the Champions League. 

Team Stats

Hernandez swaps in for the top scorer award with Marin again picking up Player of the Year.
Kovalenko as ever, Mr Consistant with his assists.

Rainbow Player - Purple

A decent first season in the sticks for Thiede

Season Points
