Career Quagie's 20 (Complete)

So, now that i have settled on doing shorter challenges, i will start off with this simple one from @Foxy:

 

It means the challenge is to take a 34+ yr old and get him to score against 20 different teams in a league as soon as possible. Now, the main question is the choice of player and league.

Well, i am gonna go with one of my faves and the man who kick-started my Journeyman Pensioner save:

The grand old man of Italian Football, Fabio Quagliarella and the club will be his real life one:

So, all set now. I will be employing a 2-2-2-3-1 with Quagliarella employed as a lone TM upfront. 

I will be posting the first update in a short while. It should not take more than 2 seasons to be fair.

So, this first update would consist of August till December:

August Fixtures

I decided to play him only in league games so our 1st match in the Italian Cup did not feature him. 

Goal #1 vs Lazio

He notched up his 1st goal in the very 1st match but then got sent off meaning he missed the next league match.

 

September Fixtures

A solid month which started with another 4-1 drubbing away to AC Milan but then we picked up 3 successive wins including a shock 2-1 win against Inter at home.

We consolidated our position with another couple of wins against Torino and Napoli but the end of month we suffered a setback, losing 1-3 to Genoa.

We suffer another two big losses, to Roma and Atalanta while getting a couple of wins.

We picked up another win against Bologna but again lose two back to back against Juventus and Fiorentina.

We are sitting on 8th with a negative goal difference after suffering some heavy losses.

 

Quagie's Tally (so far)

Quagie has been on a tear though in the 1st half of the season, scoring 17 goals including 2 hattricks from 16 matches and he has already scored against 12 out of 20 teams.

Oh, this looks like a nice challenge! Quagliarella is giving me headaches since FM2006, both scoring against me or when I bought him not scoring for me.. have quite a few of those players actually. Solid start and hopefully he doesn't get injuries.

Another mixed month as we started with a couple of wins and then got knocked out by Lazio in the Coppa Italia before finishing off with 2 draws.

3 new teams added this month.

A solid month with only 1 loss to Inter and 4 wins. We didn't play any new teams so Quagie couldn't increase his tally.

Another poor month where we won just once and lost twice but atleast Quagie could increase his tally.

We finish on 5th which means we are playing in the Europa League next season. Board wanted a mid-table finish so i have exceeded that.

Mehdi Lehris is our only representation in the Serie A TOTY while also winning the YPOTY. Quagie finishes second behind Ronaldo in the Golden Boot but he doesn't care for the awards anyway. 😁

 

Quagie's Final Tally for the season

So, Quagie manages 28 goals from 34 matches. He missed 4 league matches due to injuries.

 

Progression - 17/20

So, he has scored against 17 of the 19 teams this season. To complete this, he needs to score against 3 new teams the next season.

 

Upcoming Fixtures:

He has Salernitana, Juventus, Perugia and Benevento in the first 3 months of the new season to complete the challenge.

Really good score especially in a tough league with a smaller team.

Much faster than I expected. Was thinking about doing this but this will be hard to beat.

Nicely done! Did you use a regular tactic as in one you use more often or did you have to adapt to compensate for the diminishing physical stats? I used Ajax for one of the in-game challenges and Huntelaar was doing pretty good despite his stats in a standard TM role. Seems to perform best for me anyway, along with AF.

Thanks Bati. Quagie was golden. I could have done it in even lesser matches if i sat him out of repeat fixtures but then i just wanted him to play.

I I played him as a TM all along. He was pretty good for me.
