Bati Attempts In-game Challenges 5/7, 6/7 & 7/7

Hi Vibe,

After spending the last few weeks testing all sorts of tactical stuff with the 4 free in-game challenges, I thought why not buy those remaining 3. Got the Challenge Bundle for €1.50, which is 50cents each so not terribly much I'd say - hope SI spend the extra piles of cash wisely. I've never bought or played those challenges so I suppose now with the lockdown etc there's no better moment to take 'em on. Great challenges we've got on Vibe, don't get me wrong, but I was always going to try them out one version or another. So it happens to be this year.

5/7 Austerity Measures

Challenge Recap:

  • Owner has a drink too many - - > gambles wife's diamond earrings, chihuahua and club's funds at the casino - - > receives wifey phone call who files for divorce - - > XXL financial shit both at home & club - - > big eaners need to exit the dressing room + keep winning ways with remaining joke players.

And in that light we're going with one of below clubs for this challenge:

Stevenage - 4th tier of English football - bottom of League Two and already treading a financial tightrope, staff at the club realised how serious it was. Some immediately feared for their future, with contracts running out. There are teenagers in the final months of their apprenticeship contracts who may never play another game for their club, among hundreds of young players whose professional football careers are over. Just like that. They just don’t know it yet.

Barnet - 5th tier of English football - laying off all non-playing staff at the club may look drastic, but Tony Kleanthous is unlikely to be the last owner to voluntarily lower his club’s status. English football is going to have to press the reset button in light of the coronavirus pandemic. The same concerns are everywhere. Players will have to take a reality check and reduced pay cheques.

Braintree - 6th tier of English football - operate on one of the smallest budgets in the division and their team did not look sturdy enough to survive. They had several teenage loan signings, and a handful of young players experiencing their first full season in men’s football. "Like most Braintree players, I’m non-contract so, if we don’t play, we won’t get paid". A lot of players are going to be jobless.

Poor little choice of club. You just made lots of people lost their fucking job. They don’t even have savings

Not me, the owner. So I gotta save the club so not more people lose their jobs.

I’m pretty sure you’re the one who told his wife about it 😂

I have to choose between three completely pointless football clubs 🙄

I will say Barnet as at least the fact Martin “Mad Dog” Allen has managed them about 5000 times is at least remotely interesting.

Looks like Barnet is running away with this.

You insulted 3 clubs in a single sentence 😂 no worries, I'll make it a worthy read. Doing my best.

None of them have any fans anyway :P

In fact I would like to change my choice as I just remembered that Braintree have a Keith Flint mural at there ground.

Austerity measures sometimes is a pain, especially when there is a veteran with a big contract you can't ship off.

Let's hope that won't be the case with either one of these small clubs. Wouldn't want to fail my first attempt.

Always a valid reason :D

Gotta be braintree, such a terrible name and that random mural is up there with Michael Jackson's statue at Fulham

Thanks for the vote. All valid reasons as well :)

  • Stevenage 0
  • Barnet 2
  • Braintree 2

First club to receive 3 votes wins and will be featuring in Austerity Measures.

Hahaha, a good start. Would love to see the wage bill there and the "high earners" who need to be sold.

5/7 Austerity Measures

Vibe has spoken and at Barnet we start. Well, or so I thought with a 2-pt lead over Stevenage and Braintree. A stoppage time Vibe vote hattrick and it's Braintree that steals the win. So...... at Braintree we start.

Screenshot_20200420-114256.thumb.png.e73ebecde3c87d993684652acc79cfb2.png

We have no people working at the club. I'm all by myself doing the coaching, scouting and physio-ing.

Screenshot_20200420-114326.thumb.png.be3aaf398b03006f97499bd6bae71387.png

In the red of course as per the challenge briefing. 80K over budget seems little but it's a fair number for this squad.

Screenshot_20200420-114349.thumb.png.0e12b39e4a0cb05e523592962c58b93d.png

See here to get an idea what players I'm needing to ditch. I've kept it very very simple. High earners are players on loan so I said goodbye to all 4. Goodbye!

Screenshot_20200420-191949.thumb.png.036308387d931ba3421fde5a47ecf92e.png

And 6 (our max) new loanees joined us on 0% wages. Don't cost us a thing so first objective has already been met. We're in the black. Just.

Screenshot_20200420-114729.thumb.png.b22b644c79b465f3e9b800288b1055eb.png

However, there's a second objective at the club. It's staying clear of relegation.

Screenshot_20200420-114653.thumb.png.8f99307b31e30a8ae7ee8e36e6d1ecac.png

But... we've lost nearly everything up till now. How are we supposed to stay up if we're not winning points?

Screenshot_20200420-114705.thumb.png.73e2750c1ac0737f04ff8ee94fe4f61a.png

😲 😲 😂 Wtf? Now here's a job for me.

Screenshot_20200420-162756.thumb.png.9bacd6abd5973c10a90e43ddf6a08ce9.png

Inspired by the recent asymmetrical article I went for it. Ok, shit players and lacking in defenders so I had little choice. This was a few days before the half dozen loanees joined Braintree.

Screenshot_20200420-162959.thumb.png.e4f085c7258410053c74df8fe2dd8625.png

Barely won but massively massive boost for everyone at the club. So glad to be off to a winning start. Especially considering the poor state we're in.

Screenshot_20200420-173720.thumb.png.79845bc80e9e8e8eac5fd4d29dc61545.png

And with the 6 loanees things really started clicking. We're still very much rock bottom and favorites for the drop, but two wins on the trot has lifted spirits massively.

Can we do it?

2 games already decided the outcome. Make sure your knee are in fine condition and don’t trip in front of the office door or the kids have to pay the bills for you

5/7 Austerity Measures

January

Screenshot_20200420-201230.thumb.png.1d3da4c4ec792bc49f09c1197937ea09.png

90th min beauty for a 3rd consecutive win away vs the #2 ranked team. Braintree are flying!

Screenshot_20200420-201939.thumb.png.0790f9bf65b3c9a2d9d47da3c0b6c348.png

Big win against a mid-table side to record our 4th win back to back. If we keep this momentum we'll easily avoid relegation.

Screenshot_20200420-202522.thumb.png.152ac740c8e28c77a0efdc8106ce9985.png

First pts drop, but still 13pts from available 15 under my reign. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't surprised.

Screenshot_20200420-202554.thumb.png.6a0b9b4c3d32a34e73517c57ed0d78f7.png

Fantastic January month bring Braintree for the first time this season out of the relegation spots. Lads are thrilled but still plenty of work to do.

February

Screenshot_20200420-203317.thumb.png.e408bf76a18d456dfdab27e822448426.png

It's either my asymmetrical formation that's killing it, or the opponents are utter rubbish. I think it's the former.

Screenshot_20200420-203818.thumb.png.64ffb7ae8f1d9cdc1848d14036d431b5.png

Another crucial away win and we're making a strong case to stay up in this division.

Screenshot_20200420-204119.thumb.png.330d734123fc9facd5b251a0a2446faf.png

Home win vs 10-man Slough and deservedly 3 pts for the hard-working lads.

Screenshot_20200420-204533.thumb.png.20a1dcf46d8319333771914862631981.png

With Oxford breathing not far below us it's a game I didn't necessarily needed to win but more so couldn't afford to lose. First loss, first setback, but still in our hands.

Screenshot_20200420-204720.thumb.png.eae4f7669a93c516b9a729b184306cf3.png

From the asymmetrical 3-4-3 to my trusted 3-4-3 to see if we perhaps are in need of a slight tweak to shake things up. No glory as it ends how it started.

Screenshot_20200420-204949.thumb.png.9ea882bf3c556a7c3b094dc3c46eac71.png

A pt a piece. Which isn't terrible per se as we've collected good points in Jan and Feb.

Screenshot_20200420-205038.thumb.png.fcbdff603bd76d0cb713688caf5acffa.png

From 9 pts buried in relegation waters to equal on pts with two fellow battles on the cut-off line to 6 pts clear. With 8 matches to go this is looking much brighter than the first day I took office.

5/7 Austerity Measures

March

Screenshot_20200420-224014.thumb.png.f6253d72de78e781189e0311823978fc.png

4 past the pinkies and we're well on our way to safety.

Screenshot_20200420-224806.thumb.png.8d58703d15ba36e3c4c0ec4fe87fab87.png

Ouch. Unexpected home loss to Billericay but challenge is still ours to lose.

Screenshot_20200420-225338.thumb.png.f2723d32a25c8599375df15864d84626.png

Hard fought victory and important points. Great group of players I gotta say.

Screenshot_20200420-225807.thumb.png.b415e9e2a081f668df03d5a773f9ddc5.png

Not a great performance here and we conceded 4 CCC's so I'm taking the point.

Screenshot_20200420-225921.thumb.png.1905693cb7acd5bb4678e5e83c810aad.png

7 pts clear with 4 games left. Surely this is in the bag.

AprilScreenshot_20200420-232344.thumb.png.da651801bededf64243510612e787d0e.png

Another win and there's no doubt in my mind now we've done enough to seal the deal.

Screenshot_20200420-232724.thumb.png.efdaf47204da17ecd845bd58e45cfced.png

Solid win vs the Chips and we're a solid midtable team at the moment.

Screenshot_20200420-233214.thumb.png.78dba9d01f6a9b670fc9e53059b99432.png

Perhaps we need to go at it a little more offensive at home as it's another draw.

Screenshot_20200420-233623.thumb.png.eb97eceda35c8f59ebd373d4a0883b3e.png

Attack minded spirits worked and we get the win. Poorly possession wise but that's secondary at this point.

Screenshot_20200420-233707.thumb.png.ee8ed49db902741a5d44cca918532aae.png

Braintree saved from relegation.

Screenshot_20200420-233639.thumb.png.04a6d747cfb4b29d0841fe1e5c9fe388.png

And from bankruptcy. Job done!

Formation 2

Feel free to test these formations with your lower league teams. They worked well for the Braintree group.

Next challenge up tomorrow.
