Thanks Bati, I’ve been testing this a bit again last night and based on that I’m not sure I’ll be able to beat this well not with this system and players anyway. Maybe need to try some different players 😂

Cheers Woody, I may well have another go later. It’s getting those big scoring games that makes the difference but it makes testing hard as I found I got most of those well into the season on both of my attempts. I was on last night trying to test by playing the first 10 or so games over and over and it’s hard to gauge anything as maybe the bigger scoring games would come later. A few 6,7,8-0 results with nearly every goal scored and assisted by one of the three and you’re literally wholloping points down. Think with this it’s best just to play the whole season and hope for the best.

I think you’re right Bati, certainly in getting the two CWC big hauls last time. I reckon with this system it’ll often be between 400-450 but beyond that not so often to tell you the truth.

Attempt No.336

I decided to have another full play through of this after testing a wee bit this week. The problem I was having in testing was the fact that only playing part of the season makes it so hard to gauge as I feel I’ve got nearly everything going through the three players and the deciding factor seems to be hitting the big scores and that can be unpredictable. You can be scraping one, two and three nil wins and all of a sudden hit a big one so I felt I needed to go for a full season so even though this is probably my 400th attempt it’s actually only the third time I’ve done a full play through.

I changed the system slightly as you can see and went with Salah as treq, Bobby as shadow striker and Mané as the lone advanced forward. Salah was first choice on all set pieces as he has been on all of my attempts and I honestly have no idea what is my best midfield due to required rotation but this was my line up for the final game.

 

I made similar signings to my previous attempts so won’t go into any real detail as only a few back up guys differ from last time out I believe.

 

My system performed well and seemed more stable in terms of results but we did have a few frustrating league games and ultimately couldn’t score as many as on my previous attempt. We still ended up with 107 points and a 92 goal difference and unlike last time we won all of the cup competitions we entered.

 

Like last time Mané was the main scorer and ended up with 68 goals and also chipped in with 21 assists, Salah was a great all round contributor also like last time with 52 goals and 40 assists to his name and Bobby lagged behind in terms of goals hitting only 15 but made up for that by providing 30 assists. So that’s 226 from the players and if we add on our league points and goal difference we arrive at 425 for the challenge which is great and I’m happy with it.

Score

Sadio Mané: 68 goals and 21 assists = 89

Mohamed Salah: 52 goals and 40 assists = 92

Roberto Firmino: 15 goals and 30 assists = 45

League Points: 107

Goal Difference: 92

Total: 425

Another Attempt

I’ve had a few attempts at this but this one I feel is worth posting.

Another slight change to the system as I went with wingers and the front three set up as I did in my first attempt. I also trained up Fab at centre back and he seems rather good there with VVD.

 

In the market I went for Ziyech and Gündogan as I have done previously but also went with a left winger in Di Maria to rotate with Robertson. I left it at that for incomings as I felt Fab could fill in at centre midfield if needed along with Milner who can cover loads of positions and also I often feel like the game doesn’t hit you as hard with injuries if you go with a smaller squad, might not be true but it’s something I’ve observed anyway.

 

We performed much better in scoring than on my previous attempt with 124 league goals to our name although we did concede a fair chunk in 29 but ended up with just one draw so 112 points and a goal difference of 94. We lost out in the Community Shield and the FA Cup after a horrible final where nothing went our way and in the end lost the penalty shootout to Derby County. As you can see below the penalty shootout was one of those where it looked like no one would ever win.

 

As has become usual for me Mané was the main scorer with 67 goals and also 28 assists to his name, Salah scored 58 goals and 42 assists and Bobby contributed 32 goals and 28 assists to give us a player total of 255. Add on our other points and we arrive at a total of 461 for the challenge so not quite enough to top the board but still really good and I can only be thrilled with it. You can see we didn’t suffer many injuries well any in the cases of Salah and Mane and Bobby only a short layoff I believe but I’ve had plenty of attempts where that hasn’t been the case and to beat the top total I feel it’ll probably have to be that kind of season where most things go our way.

Had a crack last night but ended prematurely with just too many injuries. The tweaks I've made seem to work but I'm just waiting for a killer run. Your new score just motivates me to try again.

Cheers Bati, yeah I think that’s where it’s at now with me and this system, just a matter of getting a good run without too many injuries. Not just to the three guys but others too as VVD got injured for a good spell on one of my attempts and we struggled a bit and Gini on another just kept getting injury after injury and he’s a very good player I’ve found in this system.
