Tactics Cruyff 3-1-2-3-1

Recommended Posts

My main issue as you can probably see is conceding goals don't know quite how I'll get over that I guess it's just a negative of such a wide defensive 3

Did you try more attacking roles for your backs? Not sure how this formation works actually in game but it looks like your BPD has a more forward role while your FB's stay back?

Or maybe changing one AP to DLP and the DLP to A or DM? Should be doable if you see the results people get with 2 at the back..

That's mental ... I've been trying to come up with a Cruyff Diamond tactic the last few days .... Great minds think alike man

Got my inspo from a recent video by Football Made Simple on how Cruyff revitalised a Barcelona side that went on to win silverware galore so I though screw it lets try on FMM cause I'm bored with the norm

Honestly the only things I changed during the season were to test different attacking instructions and different tempos and width everything else is consistent to all season, I did think maybe a 4-2-3-1 with a librero instead of DLP but I tried it and it failed badly so reverted back to the og formation mid game. The main things to consider from this tactic is that the GK was how did each player play under Cruyff. The two Wingers held the width in the final third whilst the full backs stayed out wide as not to lose any disadvantages on the flank. The diamond in midfield is a result of cruyff liking to have 4-6 players total in the centre of midfield so that that battle could never be lost and the two forwards (The SS and the T) often made opposing runs to confuse and pull defenders out of position. The CDM is a DLP because this is a system in which guardiola often floated between the lines looking to pick up the ball from either the full backs or the BPD. The BPD is what it is because Koeman was often tasked with ball progression whilst attemting to remain somewhat disciplined with his positioning hence BPD and not say Librero which I often find wanders off a bit in highlights. I have a feeling this tactic is more a second season wonder even for the huge clubs and for those who want to score huge amounts of goals

The two central midfielders are AP because that's just how they played too

Interesting looking set up. I've tested 1-CD formations and it's tricky to make them work. Clearly because we're playing 1 CB only, but I've found using 2 BBMs in midfield helps stabilizing your backline. They provide support and maybe it's what your formation needs.

Hope you can continue to improve on it.
