Busy weekend here as well so take all the time you need. I haven't started yet, I'm currently struggling with the Vibe WC challenge. Not going great.

No worries, I picked one already and we're almost ready for the first friendlies. Just had some fun games in the past with Luigi and in the not so far past with Ebecilio so it was nice to see them again 😁

Squad needs a lot of work in my opinion, and everyone I approach asks for around 5k per week which is almost 1/6th of the budget. Think I need to sell some players just for wage budget.

Bati Vs Dagion

 

 Excelsior - (Holland)

Robin van Persie started his senior career at Feyenoord after he'd play for Excelsior in his youth years. He started his career playing as a left winger with exceptional ball control. He later moved to Arsenal as a long term replacement for Dennis Bergkamp. Arsène Wenger decided to convert him to a central forward later on, as he'd successfully done with star player Thierry Henry. After the departure of said players v. Persie became the main striker in Wenger's 4-3-3 system. It proved a massive success playing up front as a pure striker, winning the EPL Golden Boot twice in a row. He's also been responsible for providing a vast number of assists from freekicks and corners, being a set piece specialist with a magnificent left foot. For this challenge we're going back to where it all started.. 

Your job: Find a left-footed player with yellow or less in ST position. Retrain him and play as a striker. Most goals wins. If tied most assists wins.

 

No great options in the squad imo so off to the market to find a player with a good left foot and no green in ST. The new v. Persie. 

The Player - Start of Season

Found a "yellow striker" with a left foot. All options had low Shooting, but the rest such as Aerial, Strength, Movement, Pace, Technique looks good.

Striker bought as well as two APs. Read below why. 

Formation 

This is the 'Classic Batigoals' formation I created back in 2017. For most H2H battles I'll be using a tweaked version of this, either with WBs or IWBs depending on how good the aforementioned players are. As well as the backline and/or DLP in the middle. 

The reason I bought APs is simply because the challenge requires goals. So I neglected (lack of funds rather) the defence which is why you'll see too many conceded goals at the end of season. But with good players in every position it's a very effective formation. Good APs create loads of chances for the "new v. Persie" to nick one or two in. We already had decent Wingers at the club.

The only disappointment of the season was leaving the Cup prematurely and missing out on a handful of games. That's the price I pay for not strengthening my defence.

Not a great GD but better defenders and a striker with green Shooting will do this formation more justice.

The Player - End of Season

He improved nicely. Shooting up to blue and Movement up to green. A very consistent lad. 

Goals and Assists 

That's the reason I spent time fixing the 2017 Classic Batigoals formation to make it work today. The Wingers and APs (or AM+AP) create loads for the lone striker. A better striker scores 60-70+ easily. Also, scoring in the Dutch 2nd division isn't particularly hard. 

Challenge score = 46

If Dagion scores 46 as well we'll look at the assists for the tie-breaker. Under 46 it's a point for FC BatiGoal, over 46 it's for Vibe United.

I quite often do now tbh, I suppose since that article about it. But usually later in the game. So I start off symmetrical and then trying to fit in my stronger subs I end up asymmetrical.

That's very unlucky. I never ever remember that which is annoying, players in lower divisions get called up during league games. So I'm very fortunate mine hasn't.

Picking up the pace!

Oh no wait, that's the replacement while "Van Persie" was on international duties. Hmm, could have used Azevedo as well for this challenge. 🤔

Alrighty, here we go! Found a few players who met the criteria. Although Van Persie was Dutch it wasn't mentioned my new Van Persie had to be Dutch. Or a winger. He had to be a lefty and yellow in the striker position.

So the new, young and Slovakian (bad choice..) van Persie: Tomas Suslov.

He looks okay in the important areas, he was cheap and hopefully he would improve a lot seeing he is only 17.

As Batigoal mentioned, Excelsior lack funds and I don't think there is a central defender with at least 11 for tackling so the squad can use some extra quality. Up front they have some talent which can be sold to increase the wage budget. In the second transfer window there were some nice loans available.

The formation I used looks a bit like Bati's, except my midfielders are not that attacking. Fiddled around a lot but I think I ended up playing this formation and these roles most of the time. Also played with the same roles as Bati in some games.

As I mentioned before, Suslov actually ended up playing international games so he missed some matches unfortunately. To add to that he suffered a light injury missing another two games.

A bit unlucky with the Dutch cup, drawing Groningen in the second round

League went excellent with all our new signings and loan reinforcements. Nice amount of goals scored too, while conceding was okay. 

Pity all the good news ends here.. Suslov got the annoying "needs to mature to improve" trait so his growth wasn't as good as we hoped it would be.

We couldn't beat the 46 goals by Bati, combination of international duties and the minor injury I guess, otherwise it would have been pretty close!

Maybe it was just the wrong choice in hindsight and maybe I should have picked Azevedo who is a lefty and yellow in the striker position..

No callups either! And nice stats being my W/IF and backup striker during international games..

Ah well, I did my best and it was a fun challenge to do! Besides, somebody has to take a loss for the team, better get that out of the way immediately 😁

Very good effort I have to say, Dagion. Those int duties is what killed you. Also, 17yo are often inconsistent which is why I picked a 20+yo lad at least. I think you could've beaten my score with Azevedo. Or at least have come really close. Thanks for the battle and I'm sure we meet again 😉

Your league run was better and much more league goals scored too. 91 vs my 65. The problem is your goals are too much spread out. I scored 72 gls total and 64% (46gls) went to the striker. 

My second highest scorer managed 6 gls only. So there's very little stealing going on. If you get that % up you'll have a great 1KC formation.

Yeah it was a bit tricky. When I played with more assist minded roles the chances we created took a dive. 

Not sure what the best team instructions are for a formation with two wingers you want to assist a lone striker, in the end I went with "through balls" ticked and everything else off. Guess his movement and lesser aerial meant he didn't convert as many crosses or something like that. The AP's didn't stop shooting either but less annoying than my wingers. The BBM took some goals, but the team performed a bit better with a BBM instead of CM, BWM or DLP.

With Excelsior I ticked through balls as well and early crosses. Only because the striker had TM-like skills, decent Aerial and Strength, otherwise I don't tick anything.

Ajax have had fantastic attacking midfielders over the years. Some are youth products from the club's renowned academy while others have joined during the latter stages of their careers to show their skills in Amsterdam for one last time. Some of these club legends include Litmanen, Pettersson, v.d. Vaart, Bergkamp, Sneijder, Laudrup, Eriksen just to name a few and of course none other than the Best Dutch Footballer of all time Johan Cruijff. Frenkie de Jong has been labelled as next in line due to his intelligence, ball control and passing ability, but he's already earned himself a move to Barcelona. Now all eyes are on Donny van de Beek, who many believe is just as talented and is expected to be playing his final season for Ajax before earning his move to one of Europe's powerhouses. Spend your $$ budget wisely.

Your job: Help Donny vd Beek become a club legend. Most assists wins. If tied most goals wins then highest AvR.

Ajax have an overpowered squad for the Eredivisie, but it's lacking quality strikers to make a decent run in the CL. More importantly, vd Beek is assisting so the balls gotta go in.

It's a nuts looking formation so let me briefly try to explain what happened. I never started with this but it's what I ended up with. I started with the Classic Batigoals formation: 4-1-4-1, for a lone striker. Now my attempt is to single out the assist man. So the entire AM strata is swapped with the ST, and a 4-1-1-4 is the product. Tbh, when it comes to assists I'm not really sure what I'm doing as hours and hours of experiments and tests result in the same thing - assists come from all over the place. So my primitive thinking goes - get yourself a handful of quality finishers and score as many goals as you can. Then hope your guy is among the assisters, and that's the story. A consistent story.

To share the record with Scratch makes this career already worth the time and effort. 

League Table

Ajax are easily the best team in Holland. There's much more goals to score in this league for anyone going for goal-scoring challenges.

We won the league and the Dutch Cup with ease, but came short in the CL semi's vs Man City. 

Goals and Assists 

He did really well and beyond my expectations. He played mostly as a Treq and occasionally as an AP. Whether I win or lose this battle, I've won myself a formation I'm using for a 1KC Assists later this year (and probably in Holland too) so it's a win either way. 

Challenge score = 48

If broodje kip assists 48 as well we'll look at the goals for the tie-breaker. Under 48 it's a point for FC BatiGoal, over 48 it's one for Vibe United.
