I had him in my Atalanta save last year. Not a bad player I must say. Let's see if he's the one to finally beat Jeff

Nah, never heard of him. A bit risky this one... 🤔

Yeah could be a risk, it’s his age for me that’s the main concern so we’ll see how it goes.

Well, complete unknown to me. Good luck although you will not need it.

I think I’ve seen him on searches in the past but that’s it and I don’t think I’ve noticed him deep into any of my long saves so I’m intrigued by him. Would prefer to try him in a few years but I can’t on this.

Yeah looks good to me and I’m sure he will be very good in a few years.

Hopefully he’s the man to finally beat Jazzy Jeff.

Thank you all for the comments.

New name to me too Ian but looks promising. Good luck!

Thank you Smoggy, yes he looks a promising player.

I’m really enjoying the unique picks you have made so far as it adds to the anticipation of finding out how they do.

Thank you Foxy, I’m trying to find players that I think will do a decent job and that aren’t so popular on the forum. Obviously Jeff is the obvious one for season 1 but apart from this particular challenge he’s not someone you ever see much of on the community.

Season 4 - Alessandro Cortinovis (Italy)

After three great seasons it’s still our opener Jazzy Jeff who leads the way with an impressive return of 85 so can our young Italian hopeful dislodge him from his position this season? Read on to find out.

Transfers

Jean-Clair Todibo and Ibrahima Konatë both came in to be options at centre back with the former being familiar to me from my current double trouble attempt and the latter being someone I have used a few times and both should be good enough for what we need here with any luck. I felt we needed another striker and for this I’m looking for decent selfless types so they don’t overshadow my No.10 and I felt Kelechi Ihaenacho was the best of what was on offer so we got the deal done. Orsolini although not appearing on the outgoing transfer page did leave as part of a player exchange deal but unfortunately there’s something up with that this year whereby half of the players transferred out like that seem to not appear. Fabinho left at the end of last season so has appeared again and Andre Grey was offloaded as I felt we no longer needed him.

Team Results

The team had a nice league season in scoring 147 goals and winning both of the domestic cups in fairly comfortable fashion. Unfortunately we couldn’t add the Champions League trophy to our haul as Man City knocked us out in the final and it’s safe to say we were a tad unlucky looking at the stats.

Alessandro Cortinovis

Alessandro had some nice moments with the most notable being his three assists and two goals in this 10-1 victory over Verona fairly early on in the season.

He pulled up towards the end of this 5-0 victory over Frosinone in what would turn out to not be an injury post match but his condition dropped to such a low level he ended up missing a couple of games anyway. Similar thing happened in the Italian Cup final as you can see further up in the team results section.

He then suffered a month long injury towards the end February.

Unfortunately he couldn’t match any of our previous No.10’s but I’m happy enough with his return based on how the season went. He scored 25 goals and made 42 assists in 48 games so his assist number was fine but goals not quite so good. It was the World Cup year though and with the games coming thick and fast he was almost always slightly tired and jaded a lot more often than I’d like. I more than likely overplayed him at times too especially with him being young but it’s still a decent return and I reckon he’ll be a great player in a few years time.

Player Stats

Our No.10 did a good job looking at the stats although he wasn’t as much of a talisman as the previous boys. Belotti also had another great season and what a truly fine player he is I have to say.

Thank you Kun, yes he did very well and I think he may well turn out to be the best out of all of the players I’ve used so far but he’s just a little too young yet.

Season 5 - Player Choice

After four great seasons so far where we’ve had an Irishman, a Frenchman and two Italians we must now pick our first Argentinian to be our next Fabled No.10. I scoured through all of the options available and eventually settled on Matías Vargas from Espanyol.

Matías Vargas

I am familiar with this player but have never used him before and I suppose you could say he’s quite similar in value to most of my picks so far as I’ve chosen to go the middle of the road way to free up more money to use on the squad. Looking at his history I see there are a few seasons where he hasn’t played in too many games which might indicate he’s a touch injury prone so fingers crossed on that front but all in all I’m happy with my pick. He’s got a nice set of steady attributes with no real major weaknesses so we’ll see how he does.

I’ll be back with the full season update later but you can see below he played his part in the season as he helped fire us to Italian Cup glory.

Thanks Shosky, I do have a decent idea of what I need to make this work. The main thing I look for here is movement and luckily it’s an attribute that can often be increased with focus fairly quickly I find even with players you’d think are past their growth years.

Season 5 - Matías Vargas (Argentina)

We arrive at season five where we need to use an Argentinian and as I revealed a few days ago I chose Matías Vargas as my new No.10 so we’ll now see how he got on.

Transfers

Not so much action here this season with only a few new signings coming in. I went for Moriba who I know from the Barca double trouble attempt to play in midfield and Martinelli from Arsenal who will be an option up front. A few youngsters graduated but it wasn’t intentional and I’m guessing they won’t play a single minute for me during what remains of this challenge.

Team Results

We were very dominant this season in winning everything and scoring a large amount of goals. No real issues in any of the cups and our main man got on the scoresheet in a couple of the finals.

Matías Vargas

Our No.10 contributed a lot to our cause this year and this below was one of his and our better games.

After having concerns about whether he’d be injury prone he turned out to be very robust as he kept fit for the whole campaign and ended up scoring 43 goals and 39 assists which gets us back up into the 80’s with a total of 82 for the season. Of course that’s not enough to beat Jeff but we’re happy enough as we are on for a good total for the challenge. If Jeff were to end up as the highest points scorer I’d be chuffed as he’s usually considered the weakest option for this but in fairness I reckon he’s every bit as good as most of the guys I’ve used so far. Still two more players who could yet beat him though!

Thanks for reading.

Brilliant again. I love that the Jazzy one is still edging it in terms of contribution, especially in the first season. This is going to be a massive score. Actually, this is ALREADY a massive score.

Thank you Rob, I seem to be favouring a squad full of peak aged players at the moment which has made my approach to these kind of challenges totally change. Last year I would’ve come in and done a lot more business the first season with more than likely a lot of younger guys coming in whereas on this I went for a squad of older guys at their peak knowing they’d need replaced at some point. I’m sort of approaching these things one season at a time if you get what I mean with plenty of player exchange deals occurring to offload the players at the right time to be able to bring in similar replacements a touch younger.

Season 6 - Player Choice

Here I am to reveal my chosen player for season six of this seven season challenge. We have had some nice returns so far but it’s our opener Jazzy Jeff who still leads the way so hopefully our second French option will be the man to finally dethrone him. While searching for my French option for season two I found this guy, was tempted to go with him for that season but then I thought it might be best to let him mature a bit with the hope that he’d be available for the sixth season and luckily he was so without further ado, my chosen player was Houssem Aouar.

Houssem Aouar (France)

I’m well aware of this player in the real world but not at all when it comes to in game so an intriguing one. He’s a bit of an upgrade on most of the players we’ve used so far judging by his value and he cost us a hefty £37.5m so we have high expectations for this season. He’s got reasonable numbers in most of the attributes I look for in movement, creativity, passing, shooting, decision and his stamina is high too which really helps when it comes to time on the pitch.

Can he be the one to finally beat Jazzy Jeff? If this early season game is anything to go by then he has every chance.

I’ll be back later to let you know how he got on.

Thanks for reading and following.
