Oooohhh, good choice. Whilst the most important question is will he score as many points as Jazzy, the second most important question is: how do you pronounce his surname?

Thank you Rob, I’m hopefully that he’ll be the man but I have no idea how to pronounce his surname.😂 I guess we’ll have to wait until we see a game with him playing in real life to hear how the commentators pronounce it although they often get it wrong at times too.

Great player choice Ian, my bet would be this guy beats jazzy Jeff.

Thank you Smoggy, I like him and I’ve seen a few transfer links involving him recently as you do at this time of year which kind of prompted me to try him. I do hope he can beat Jeff, so we’ll see.

Season 6 - Houssem Aouar (France)

This is the year when Jazzy Jeff will finally be beaten, well that’s what I told myself before the season began so let’s see if that turned out to be the case as I present you the update for season six of this seven season challenge.

Transfers

A few older players left and as we are nearing the end we went for peak aged players as replacements with a couple of younger players brought in on loan as reserve options. Yacine Adli is a nice midfielder who can play in the deeper midfield role, out wide right if needed and as an option at number ten if my main man is unavailable. I was actually very tempted to go with him as this years main man with him also being French but I’d already had my eye on Aouar so went that way instead. Gedson Fernandes shouldn’t need much introduction as he’s rather well known and at the stage we are at he’s right in his peak years so should hopefully be an important player for us in the last couple of seasons. Mirko Antonucci was brought in primarily to play on the right of midfield but offers a lot for the squad as he can also play left wing, up top or even as our number ten if required. Paulista is an ageing centre back but out of the options available taking finances into consideration I felt he was the best option and Angeliño is a nice looking left back/ winger who in the real world currently plays for Man City. The rest are all regens I believe and brought in as squad players.

Team Results

We had another dominant campaign which isn’t overly surprising I’m sure but we didn’t clean up as Milan beat us in the Italian Suoer Cup via a dreaded penalty shootout after they’d forced extra time with a stinging last minute equaliser.

Houssem Aouar

Unfortunately his highlight game was probably the one I used as a preview where he netted a hat trick so I’m shamelessly going to put it up again.

He was very robust as the only injury he suffered was this ten day lay off in early March.

The question is, could he beat Jazzy Jeff?

Well he managed our highest return so far for assists with a hefty 44 but a slightly disappointing goal return of 38 leaves us a bit short on 82. I’m kidding really about being disappointed as I’m more than happy with the return as I’ve now beaten my previous score for this and still have another player left to hopefully contribute a good few more goals and assists so it’s going to be a sort of celebration season next year.

Player Stats

Yet again our number ten was the main man with our deep strikers also heavily contributing and Trent also doing well on the assists which isn’t so surprising given his ability in supply.

Season 2 - France: Florent Mollet: 55 goals and 28 assists = 83

Season 3 - Italy: Riccardo Orsolini: 43 goals and 40 assists = 83

Season 4 - Italy: Alessandro Cortinovis: 25 goals and 42 assists = 67

Season 5 - Argentina: Matías Vargas: 43 goals and 39 assists = 82

Season 6 - France: Houssem Aouar: 38 goals and 44 assists = 82

We only have one more season to play now and we’ll be needing an Argentinian player who will be our last number ten. Could he be the one to finally knock Jeff off his perch?

I’ll be back later to reveal my chosen player so thanks for reading and following.

Thank you Rob, yes it’s gone very well and anything on the last season should just be treated as a bonus but we do have to try to beat Jeff.

Season 7 - Player Choice

We reach the final season of this challenge and here I am to reveal who I’ve chosen as our last fabled number ten who must be Argentinian. Things have gone well so far and we’re already on for a good score so it’s just a case of playing the final season through and seeing if our final number ten can beat Jeff who still holds the highest return from way back in season one. The player I’ve gone for is Emi Buendía who in the real work currently plays for Norwich City.

Emi Buendía

Emi is a player I am familiar with and I have used him way back in March for my saviour cometh challenge attempt. He seemed decent on that save but he was used as an inside forward so I was keen to see how he’d do in the number ten position so as soon as I saw him my decision was made. He’s very much similar to a lot of my previous picks in terms of attributes and my main concern you’d think would be shooting but I’ve found that doesn’t seem to need to be so great in this system for the player to score a reasonable amount of goals. It’s his stamina that I’m slightly concerned about and I’d be much happier if it were at least 15 but I can just about live with 14.

I’ll be back later to let you know how he got on but you can see the team were in fine form early on in the season in this 10-0 victory where Emi certainly played his part so more results like this and we’ll be happy.

Season 7 - Emi Buendía (Argentina)

Here I am to bring this career to a close. I’ve had numerous challenges going at the same time recently which was fine and I’ve enjoyed them but there were a few negatives that mean I’ll probably not go down the same road again. It’s sorting the posting schedule that’s been the main problem as you don’t want to post too often as people will think you’re taking the piss so I’ve ended up in a situation where every career I’ve started on the forum I’ve basically concluded and I’m just playing catch up now. It gets worse as I’ve actually got another two that I’m yet to post and one of which is actually finished as it was just a one season challenge.

Anyway, back to the job at hand which is updating you on the final season of this challenge.

We’ve done very well so far and it’s our opener Jazzy Jeff Hendrick who still leads the way with the highest return yet and Emi Buendía is the last player to have a good go at dethroning him. Won’t be easy as others have found out but I was quietly confident going into the season.

Let’s see how it went.

Transfers

With this being the last season we didn’t do much work in the transfer market and it was just a matter of replacing some of the older players who left and bringing in peak aged players as replacements.

Team Results

We failed to win everything as we lost out in the Italian Cup final to Milan but it was a very good season overall.

Emi Buendía

Emi was very consistent throughout but he wasn’t a one for many big hauls and the only hat trick he got apart from his CWC one above was this one below.

35E91E54-D4A8-4E40-A520-30CEAA6D6EF4.thumb.jpeg.2c22ecdaf96626c47f2df9d01dedd4ed.jpeg

I really thought he was going to beat Jeff based on his scoring consistency but unfortunately he tailed off a bit towards the end of the season and ultimately it was his lack of assists that cost him as he came up short on 77 points. Still 46 goals is equal to what Jeff managed and only equal second in that regard to Mollet who I feel was helped by those Club World Championship games. Still it gives us a challenge total of 559 which I can only be happy with.

Player Stats

Like all of the others Emi did his job as our fabled number ten and can be proud of his season.

Manager

My final managers profile, not much to say about it really. I suppose the main thing I’m happy with is the goal per game ration of 3.41 which is pretty decent going I’d say.

Phenomenal score, and I’m chuffed that the Jazzy one got the top score. Great read Ian

Thank you Rob, I just played the first season with a system I thought would be decent and Jeff’s return made me continue. Nice to see him as the top scorer and I now feel I must use him again for something else as the star attraction. I have something in mind.

Brilliant score mate. Although Hendrick getting the top points is still surprising.

Thank you Kane, yeah I am too but in some ways not so much as I’ve got a good idea of some key squad players for the opening season that kind of make the system work and most are peak aged players. I kept trying to keep the squad all peak aged throughout rather than go for youngsters to develop. I wouldn’t say the squad got too much better throughout this and the number tens were all similar. Maybe if I’d have gone with a few youngsters the first season Jeff mightn’t have done so well but then the other may have done better as the squad guys continued to improve throughout. It’s gone really well though so no complaints from me.

Thank you Smoggy, I was too and after his great opening return I thought someone might be able to break into the 90’s. It wasn’t to be though but I’m happy enough with this.
