Career Two Bruno’s and the Roofe is on Fire! Completed

Two Bruno’s and the Roofe is on Fire - Peak Striker Challenge Intro

I’m going to give my own Peak Strikers Challenge a go at Barcelona and I will be looking to get three players on the overall leaderboard as high as I can, also one on the Uncapped Player Leaderboard and one on the Non Striker Leaderboard. Then all three players combined will get me a score for the 3 Players leaderboard.

All very simple but more information can be found in the Challenge OP.

Player Choices

My first player choice will be heading onto the Uncapped Player Leaderboard after the 5 seasons are complete and he is a bit of a personal favourite.

Kemar Roofe - Uncapped Player

Although he started at WBA he really made his name at the Mighty Yellows down in the deepest darkest depths of League 2. He only spent a season and a half with us before Leeds signed him but he helped us to win promotion into League 1 and he scored a few beauties including this one that I am sure @Mr Tree will remember fondly as well.

Bruno Petkovic

Bruno P will only be going on the Overall Leaderboard but I have good hopes for him as he looks a very creative TM. I find the TM role can be very productive for assists so that may be his main source of points although his aerial means he will be a danger at corners with a bit of luck.

If he scores a few like this as well I will be happy (not that I will know he has).

Bruno Fernandes

My non striker pick won’t need much introduction as he was doing great things at Man Utd before lockdown. I wanted a creative player who was good at set pieces to play just behind Roofe and Bruno P and I know Bruno F has good long shots as well so he seems a good pick.

Hopefully we will see plenty of this type of thing going on from him.

I will be playing this save in between seasons of the Warriors save I’m doing with @Rob @Ian and @Woody so the updates will be a bit spread out but I hope you all follow along.

Thanks for reading.

Good luck Foxy! A fun looking challenge and it’s always appealing to be able to use a few different players. I think Roofe in particular could do very well for you.

cracking goal that on a shocker of a day for us - that was under our Dutch manager who didn't last long, our new signing international CB Andy Bellend (who's popped up elsewhere on Vibe this season) did his ACL on his home debut, and poor Jack Bonham had a mare in goal.

we did a pretty good job rehabilitating Bonham, who you might remember had one of the most brutal introductions to professional football ever...

we finally realised he was no better than a "good shot-stopper", so he's moved on to League One now (Gillingham i think?) - one of the better keepers in L1, i believe (or have made up).

good luck with the challenge!

It was the VPL King Cnut challenge I believe and he was my chosen Cnut iirc.

Season 1

I had decided that I would go a little different with my tactics for this challenge and so although the set up looks very conventional it is unusual for me not to play wingers either as W or IF. I’m not sure if this is a leaderboard topping formation but it’s always nice to play around with different tactics and not just stick to variations of what I usually do.

My hope with this set up is that the vast majority of the assists and goals will come from my “magic triangle” at the top of the pitch which contains my three challengers.

Transfers

Barca have some good players but the squad is pretty small so not many left the club except for a load of youngsters I released to get them out the first team but a good number joined. I decided I would keep Messi and Griezmann to play 2nd fiddle to my trio along with Giroud but I used Dembele and Suarez as “make weights” in other deals.

Competitions

With over £300m spend out it is no great surprise that I won everything this season.

The Magic Triangle

I felt that Bruno F would be the key man in this save and then Bruno P would do ok and Roofe would perhaps not be very spectacular. So far in season 1 they have all contributed well though and it was very even between the two Bruno’s with Bruno P scoring just one point more than Bruno F.

Kemar Roofe

At 26 Kemar was unlikely to show much improvement although his shooting and movement crept back up to 15.

Bruno Fernandes

He has shown some improvement especially in his movement and he really is looking world class now. He seems pretty perfect as a Treq and was my top as assist maker and was challenging for top scorer as well.

Bruno Petkovic

Again he was 24 when he joined and showed a small amount of improvement over the season to his attributes. He scored 1 point more than Bruno F thanks to being a consistent scorer and assister for the team.

Challenge Totals So Far

Bruno P - Overall Leaderboard: 60 points

Bruno F - Overall and non striker leaderboards: 59 points

Kemar Roofe - Overall and uncapped leaderboards: 47 points

A decent start although I’m sure we will see better from other people as time goes on. My hope is that I can improve on this next season.

Thanks for reading.

Excellent start mate! Roofe certainly is on fire, can’t be too long for an INT call up surely, and your Bruno’s have been great too.
Do you find your wing backs are nicking many assists away from your trio? It’s a difficult balance isn’t it as you need some width from somewhere so inevitably they will get their fair share.

Not at all they only have 6 assists between the 4 of them this season.

It is my BBM’s that have taken a fair few assists especially Alaba who was my 3rd highest assister.

Excellent start here Foxy. Your set up looks like the set up I'm currently using except that I push the 2 wing backs to the wide midfield position.

Usually I would have wingers but I wanted to see if using WBs on there own would give me a wide presence without them taking too many assists which it seemed to at least in this first season.

Thanks for the comments @Ian @Rob @Kanegan

Season 2

Season 1 was a really good start with all three lads making a good contribution to the 3 players leaderboard total as well as there own individual attempts but I was hoping for a bit more this season.

Transfers

At the end of season 1 a flood of players that were out on loan cake pouring back into the squad and the 1st team was looking huge. Some of them were decent players but they weren’t going to get a game so most went with just Todibo staying as he is a great CB.

I then bought just three players but they added real quality to squad.

Competitions

It wasn’t a complete clean sweep as Liverpool beat me in the summer CWC final.

Kemar didn’t have quite such a good season this year numbers wise but that can be explained by a couple of injuries with the longest 3 weeks (I don’t know if watching Bournemouth v Palace at the same time was what injured him). He wasn’t far short of last seasons totals though so on a GpG and ApG basis he probably did better so an injury free season 3 could see him do well.

Bruno P did improve on last in terms of goals as he scored 9 more perhaps helped by the extra CWC fixtures but he was less productive setting goals up as he created 6 less than S1. That is still as improvement of 6 points though.

Bruno F saw a huge improvement on last seasons numbers as he scored 9 goals more and a whopping 17 more assists to cement his place as my best hope for a good overall leaderboard score.

Bruno P - Overall Leaderboard: 144 points

Bruno F - Overall and non striker leaderboards: 123 points

Kemar Roofe - Overall and uncapped leaderboards: 90 points

3 Player Combined Leaderboard: 357 points

The season finished with a combined score of 191 between the three players which is great but will have been enhanced by the CWC as I played the full tournament before the season change. This might mean next season isn’t quite as good but if they continue scoring points at a similar rate I will be happy.

Thanks for reading
